  1. My 3 cents...

It's not the issue of tiles or hexes per se. It's the damn eye candy effect of the isometric view. If there was a top down view option/ toggle that dispensed with all the bitmap b.s, then frankly I wouldn't give a hoot if the game grid was interlocking circles!

My disappointment lies, in ramping up min. hardware requirements for ditzy, quick-to-get-tiresome, bitmaps when the cpu should be smoking over edwin's a.i. scenario scripting.

  2. Pzgndr,

Perhaps you did'nt see my question at Wargamer forum, but it would appear that you are well placed to give an unbiased appraisal of the pros and cons of some of the games just out or about to come out.

I'm starting to get my head around AGW, at the moment, and I must say it feels like the board games of old. Perhaps I'm a bit nostalgic, in that I am prepared to accept some initial eccentricities for what should turn out to be a pretty good game. Non-Disclosure agreements aside, is there anything you can comment on from what you have seen. And that given that all regular contributors to this forum will be buying SC2 anyway, what would you be suggesting while we wait...

  4. Well I ordered AGW last week, and it should be arriving any day now.

I chose this over TFB, as I already have a couple of HPS games and wanted to diversify a little.

    Why AGW?

    1. Hexes

    2. Devoted fan base from previous release, and responsive developer and patch history.

    3. Unit graphics look old school, which appealed!

    4. Looks like a board game, (I'm getting tired of what appears to be a graphical convergence of games into a single icon type- where the only difference is the game engine and interface.

    5. Couldn't wait for SC2. (will still get it anyway).

    6. The developer's website: -design philosophy also appealed

Once I get a handle on the game, I'll give some comment if requested...

    regards

    A.S.

  5. @Harry.

Probably can't make bowls night, although regularly cycle past on way to RMIT. I'll be busy getting lectures ready. I hope you get a good turn out. I have always found grognards a fairly solitary lot! (myself included). Last time our paths crossed, some 2+ years ago you kicked my arse when my german squads ran into a church and were promptly mown down by all your ruskis. Don't think I ever got over it. Grew attached to those little dudes sneaking around in the hills; a bit like 'The Sims-WWII'!

I'm currently awaiting "Anglo-German War" from schwerpunkt, any day now. and that's going to distract me for a month or two. But as the days begin to darken and the temperature drops, I might dust off the CMBB disks and get setup for some more kick arse.

...kids are well, too young for hotseat play!

...good to see you managed to get a computer. I hope this one is permanent!

  6. Hello Melbourne Gamers, anyone in this thread dabble in any of the following games?

    HPS-Tobruk

    HPS-Normandy

    Schwerpunkt-AGW

    SC-1

    Tacops

    CMBB (p'raps)

I'm tired of trying to tee up a game with people in incompatible time zones.

I reside in Reservoir Central Time :D

I know this is an AK thread, but figured most on this list may also play maps as well as minatures.
