  1. Aha, I this thread helped me figure out how in the hell Berlin kept building back up to 12 strength corps when I had it surrounded except for one adjacent army. Capital city supply is always 10! hmmmmmmmmm. The situation was most annoying, but they couldn't keep the gates closed forever.... Germany Surrenders (Finally)! Game, set, match! FF
  2. Can someone please confirm if CMAK will feature a "follow friendly vehicle" command and/or a "follow road" command. I just played a game with two a couple of large armored columns on roads, what a pain to micromanage the vehicles prior to contact... thx FF
  3. This thread strikes home with me. Not the original question, about going to Russia, but the responses describing vets unwilling to talk about the War. My Dad was in WW II, a young Canadian at Juno Beach. He operated a radio, and he was wounded on D-Day. Thats it, that is all I know, and I know if from my mom. Dad won't talk about about it at all, and I think my interest in the War (and in wargames in particular) might bother him. So I keep away from the whole subject. (I did not ask him if he wanted to see Saving Private Ryan) So it is a weird feeling. Naturally I'm proud of him, but I don't know much about what his role in all of it was. I don't know if he thinks about the war very much - maybe he thinks about it every day. Or maybe he has managed to forget it and I would just be dragging up terrible memories. The war gave my Dad a ticket to go to university and study engineering, something he would have never thought possible growing up on the praries in the Great Depression. But at what price? FF
  4. There is a lot of discussion in this thread about a PDF strategy doc, but I didn't see a link, can someone please provide it? thanks a lot to everyone who contributed to this effort! FF

  6. But Normandy was the last deciding campaign of the war. If the Wehrmacht had actually managed to achive another Dieppe, it may well of taken the Allies years to recover..freeing up units stationed in Europe to fight the Red Army to a stalemate..God help us it didn't happen. Actually, I believe that a more likely scenario in the case of a failed D-Day invasion is total occupation of Western Europe by Stalin. Why would he stop at Berlin? This scenario is explored in an essay by Stephen Ambrose in this book: "What If?: The World's Foremost Military Historians Imagine What Might Have Been" A bigger nightmare than the stalemate, no?
  7. for sure I applaud the effort MikeT But I'm not sure this addresses my issue with the way mods are handled in general. It is really a very manual process! I want to just pick a scenario, and BAM, appropriate mods are selected! And, as scenario designer, why can't I control what the church in my town is going to look like? Why is it up to the user? perhaps this deserves a new thread, we are off the original topic... Friendly Fire
  8. Thanks for the response guys. I will just wait a month. Everything seems to work find with CMMOS and CMBB so I can play around with that. The reason I was particularly interested in modding CMBO was to try out some D-Day beach landing scenarios. CMMOS is really great, and I appeciate all the effort that went into it! But it could be much more, if integrated into the product. Imagine: The CM engine includes a mod mapping tool. This takes info from the scenario, as specified by the designer (details about units involved, the location, season, the weather) The mod mapper translates these and provides the engine with the correct models. The mod mapper has a GUI allowing the user to tweak the rules driving the relationship between scenario attributes map & the models. So, you play a summer scenario, voila, troops in summer uniforms. Play in the winter, viola, everyone in white... Cool! Friendly Fire.
  9. Hello, thanks in advance for the assistance. I have the special edition CMBO CD, installed, works fine. Installed CMMOS, no problem. Read readme carefully. Next I installed all 4 major rulesets (Allied, German, Terrain, Misc), still no problems. But, now I understand that the next step is to install the mods. The instructions are to download then to a temporary drive and use the add mod tool in the configur screen. When I choose my mod nothing happens. I tried this with many different mods, same result. help please!, thanks Friendly Fire
  10. I'm playing this as my first BB scenario in order to get some first hand experience with the new movement modes for infantry (I have played BO a lot). Conclusions so far: I tried human wave but started it too far away. The wave died about the same time as my troops started getting shot up. Oh, it was ugly. All those young sons of mother Russia wasted... I managed a marginal victory by ordering staggered waves (i.e dispersed in both time and position) using the run command (to cover). But this too was pretty ugly. The main problem is a total lack of supressing fire. I also observed the weird sneak decision of the TacAI. Screwy! Next time I play I will try Advancing to contact, I expect some level of return fire will help considerably. (please, comrade captain, might we have a smokescren?)
