I know its unreasonable to ask for a server in central europe, but a server in good old england would enable europe and the east coast to meet at reasonable pings.

I´ve done some preliminary googling for rental servers but they usually only feature BF2 et al.

very good, missed this post yesterday. What we need would be a forum to discuss tactics hidden from the prying eyes of Rbentus! </font>
  3. this sunday´s game wasn´t so hot. I´ll admit that I wasn´t too focussed to start with, i apologize to my teammates if my mangled aim lost us the game(s) (getting new windows in my appartment this week and all the prepararations didn´t let me relax this weekend)

but in addition to that came the mother of all lag fests. the only game that was remotely playable was the ice map. that was good, really well played by blood (i was water) and the 5min of glory initiated by Sam on my team where we nearly grasped victory from the jaws of defeat when he boldly removed the mines blocking the entrances.

the other maps i tried to have fun, but things like this kept happening: im in an apollo, a thor is prsenting its backside at point blank range...i push the trigger and ... nothing...lag...when i get back into the game the thor has turned around completely and casually picked me off.

I really think we need to organize a different server with more bandwidth.

    impressive!

It's occurred to me that, as a frothy alcoholic beverage, a beer could be considered an "airy spirit". It'd be unsafe for anyone other than the spirit's proper master to consume it.

Is master prospero the proper master for caliban´s beer can?

No, not so good..err..umm...back to DT...slinks from scene

Is it something that makes the Tempest much more interesting?

Is it because it seeks to do whatever be our pleasure, whether it is to fly, to swim, to dive into the fire, or ride on the clouds above? [/QB]</font>

I totally agree except with the spreading throughout the battlefield. I think that depends on the map and the objective. being able to pound the enemy with precission everywhere is nice, but the more humans play, the higher the sensor attrition will be (bots don´t target sensors), and you don´t want to run out of sensors around the objective (or flag in CTF) in the last minutes of the game.

back to DT...this whole challenge/teams thing doesn´t seem to be catching the imagination of the masses ;) ,so I suggest, in my function as centurion of EEGG, that the upstarts and Liveship Rbentus join forces with EEGG and smash those who dare to oppose us in our bid to bring order to the galaxy!

    thx poesel!

All 4 vids are from the raid map on sunday. In case you´re wondering why I didn´t record the whole thing...the second you push the game cam record button the frame rate drops to about 20 (usually I have about 40-90)so I only recorded when I felt relatively safe(a mistake as you´ll see smile.gif

Also there is no sound, have to see if thats possible the next time.

    the vids:

teamwork: Imperial grunt is bearing down on my puny apollo with his thor. we trade shots (actually had i waited half a second longer I probaly could have shot through the side of the turret), I reverse like crazy, trying to at least kill a track, then kurtz comes to the rescue and gets IG with a flank shot

    tankhunter1:

I surprise Nexus and miss a 100% kill chance  . should have aimed a teensy bit more to the left or used shpede charge instead...second later jung vapes me..a recurring theme

    hunting:

    diposing of a foolish bot

    decisions:

in this case it would have made more sense to disengage

  11. Maybe rating games won/lost )maybe with a game type qualifier) might make sense? Not sure, but I agree with your points 1-3 that everything else would be a problem. Like the house to house last sunday, I got 3000 team points, but thats just because I happened to be the guy in the cutter.

PS: Poesel, did you get my email about

    the videos?

It's much easier to go hull-down with the chassis behind the Apollo rather than in front. If the armor is reversed then you've got your strongest armor toward the enemy when you aren't 100% hull-down. Same thing for edging around corners.

Alternatively, I wish someone would explain the present Apollo's chassis/turret arrangement to me.

The truth about the Apollo is that no matter what you´re facing you have to shoot first or hide quickly. Even 20mm will destroy your apollo from the front unless you´re half way across the map. The Paladin is way tougher in that respect (I´m still not able to make sense of all the numbers in those files...is the Paladin´s front armor really thicker than the Apollo´s?)

I´m for slowing the rotation of earth! or at least moving North America closer to Europe (or vice versa), so we can all play at the same time. Who needs the atlantic anyway?

Smeltz Belts? Stonewall's Stone-Age Brawlers?

I guess that brings me to what I see as the major stumbling block towards forming semi-permanent teams: trying to figure out who to team-up with. It seems basic, but to help illustrate my point: I don't even know who the Upstarts are, despite the fact that I'm challenging people to fight us, whoever WE are. Like Toby suggest, we need some type of system for making teams balanced, otherwise the game loses its appeal if you should be on the losing team all the time (same could be said if one is always winning I guess)

Don´t think so much Jung, the honorable Liveship Rbentus is siding with the upstarts.

Everybody else: Choose your allegiance (for this Sunday at least ;) )!

If there was a scoring problem then it was serverside. the scoring works in single player. we had inf in every tower (3) and 1 tower was still standing at the end of the game IIRC. so if inf count in the scoring (not sure right now) that would explain your not getting points.

@the crashes. yeah, i hope that gets fixed in one of the next updates. the crazy thing about the crases / lag is that it isn´t predictable in any way, its as if the badwidth would suddenly drop away for a min, like a power flux.

  17. 2) house to house

blood won the "turret on the roof battle", and we were well ahead during most of the game. our winning strategy was: don´t let the bots take cutters and kill the enemy cutters! during the last third of the game water staged a comeback and pulled ahead with a concentrated attack with a cutter, but that came at the price of leaving open their flanks, enabling me to take some buildings back. twice in this game i managed to take a building seconds before the water hordes overwhelmed my cutter...mucho exciting. so exciting that i didn´t take a pic smile.gif

actually took one of the end result, but I won´t rub it in.

    3) ice island map

this should have worked but it didn´t. we methodically destroyed their turrets and planned to mass drop inf and turrets after ctrl f e s. saddly enemy 2 hermes survived (i admit to forgetting that hermes is immune to emp)

this map remains my nemesis. next time

    4) raid

i did the jalinth inf trick on steroids and put ion inf in three buildings. this was very effective. it took water more than 2/3 of the game to destroy one of the towers. while water did often enter the base we were always in control.

I used turrets only on the buildings to keep water from placing aa on them (lessons learned tongue.gif )

as mentioned before, i have some films of this last battle, but i´v eonly got 20megs of webspace...

  18. sunday AARs

    1) "gentle monopods" Blood was the attacker here. Poesel suggested attacking N and W.

    Advancing:

    advance.jpg

Cowardly water had mined the E and put a ton of turrets to the S (not sure if they were there from the beginning) ast the time we did´r realise that we were being chanelled. Additionally Jalinth (water) was mortaring us all the time, though I never quite figured out who was telling him where to fire, some very good coordination there! Especially considering the proximity of their own defending units. So in the end while it never felt like we were losing, we always got close but never there.

Poesel & me on or last charge:

The most important point. IMHO the tempest should be fast, but difficult to control.

I agree. That would make it an ideal "skirmish" unit.

    - add a sensor jammer

Maybe it wouldn´t unbalance the game, but I think the purpose of this unit should be its visibility, or better its ability to distract.

Yeah, a sort of 2 min moratorium before the bots decide to drop whwre they want.

Additionally I think everybody, not only a designated commander, should have the possibility of "hold all bot drops".
