I know Sherman's were still very common making up whole Russian units.
-
I port forwarded when I hosted. That was all I had to do for real time direct IP. We were playing the demo for a mate to try it out. He said this would be good to play together with other people. I had to say sorry it's just head to head 1vs1 only.
I am on win7 64bit.
-
Any news on multiplayer features? 2 vs 2 or 2 vs AI for instance?
-
I recommend real time
-
Apparently this is also on blu ray now. So many interesting russian movies.

Dneiperline: Love and War Blu-ray
I was thinking about getting the original 1993 (iirc) blu ray of stalingrad as well.
Others I want to look into:
FORTRESS OF WAR, THE BOMBER, ADMIRAL,

They appear to be made to look like late F or early G models, I dont think there were that many MKIV Fs and Gs in 6th Army at the time of the Stalingrad battle, maybe a few, but every tank in the CGI sequence looks the same.
Its still pretty cool, what can be done these days with computer enhanced movies.
count the road wheels. Also mkivs wheels are not usually hidden by the skirts. They are small enough to be under the skirt iirc.
-
MKIVs are dissappointing.
These are CGI tanks do the MKIVs look a little off to you? The road wheels look more like T55 tanks made to look like MKIVs and then copied 5 times in CGI.
Yeah. You just reminded me to gift the original stalingrad movie to myself on blu ray for chrissy.
-
But still it is a lot rougher than most models in-game. Just had a Pz IV next to it in a scenario. The KT does look out of place. Lower quality wheels, tracks as well as many of the smaller details.
I agree. When I saw the trailer for market garden I actually just figured that the polygon limit applied to such a huge model had made it a little simpler and uglier.

I notice there are other threads like this. I has trouble limbering back up.
-
Rokko they have to get to more than one CPU thread first
But honestly this game is a gem. I have no problem with the graphics and consider them a trade off for the 1:1 troop ratio and the uniqueness of the game.

This battle. The largest battle I could find did chug. But was still fairly playable.
-
During testing I actually found myself wanting to play more rather than jump out and test another scenario.
A very good sign. Usually I am more thinking "I really want to like this, but it's not really playable".
We will see whether the shine of the new patch remains over the next few weeks.
-
I would like to thank the devs for a great patch.
My initial testing so far seems to indicate that the patch has improved real time performance by a huge margin. Even on the highest settings it seems all but the largest battles are responsive enough now to romp around that map at a reasonable pace selecting units.
A great result.
p.s. Selection boxes still annoy me as they do not start and finish where my mouse pointer starts and finishes. I imagine this is hex squares at play. i.e. start mouse selection to point and click actually means "select hex" rather than select men. So what I am actually doing is drawing a box around invisible hexes but am trying to draw a box around visible men.
Time compression would also be nice, but saving games makes not having this option no problem.
Some pictures of my brief test. I made sure I waited until the battle started proper to ensure that firefights were happening and sapping my frame rates well.

Some feedback for the wargamer so that you guys might take care of him?

I have not had a chance to download the patch yet though.

With regard to individual soldier I thought every bullet from every soldier was tracked?
If not it makes a lot of sense because I see a fair few poi t blank clip unloads by one soldier into another at point blank range that do nothing. Previously I just thought this was due more to Los and terrain mechanics.

how did this get double posted.
Apologies for this. Another gent has suggested this below in another post already

Just thought this would interest people here and it's free for americans with kindles apparently.
The reviews made me wonder what combat mission ost front is going to be like.
"A Russian woman having a difficult labor goes to the Germans to see a doctor. Later the Germans steal a cow for the baby's milk. During the night a Partisan leader gives the German officer a password and allows the Germans to withdraw peacefully. Months later the officer and his injured driver are allowed to walk away from an ambush when he repeats the password.
British POWs liberated by the Russians offer to join the Germans and even fight against the Russians to avoid falling into Russian hands. Just a couple of the surprising accounts in the book."

I am sure it is, however some of the problems might be on CM's side and not yours. We've been banging our heads as to why some high end video cards seemingly work worse than lower end ones. We identified a change in how the cards work that probably didn't matter for most 3D games but did for CM big time. It was pretty tricky to address it but preliminary testing is... well.. let's just say we should chat again after the next patch
And if you have an ATI card DEFINITELY turn off the mouse click option in Settings. We default it to OFF now, but it's possible that you still have it set to ON.
Steve
Thank you for the responses. I will keep my eyes peeled for the patch. However I have a Nvidia card. But like I said CPU core is at 100%. I have tried setting affinity to a free core. I do think that helped a little but need to experiment some more.
I am surprised Michael Emrys that WEGO presents a problem with the mouse because everything is paused. No calcs being done. I find my frame rate recovers if I pause. But again need to do more testing.
I am very surprised by the gents saying the run the game on highest settings and it is ultra smooth. I WANT THAT!! (obviously )
I own
All CMSF modules and base game
CM Normandy and the paid patch
CM Market Garden - Was hoping the latest one might help my problems (problems with the game that is )
CM fortress italy (but not the addon yet. Probably wait until I figure out what's wrong). I really appreciate that this theatre was done!! I crave this sort of thing.
At the moment it's love hate. Love the features and the way they work. Not such a fan of the UI camera and selection while having FPS and smoothness issues on the BEST settings.
As a result I keep buying them but rarely play! Where something like close combat I used to play constantly.
Just for the record my particular rig runs all my other games including rome2 at ultra.
Only one I have to be careful with is arma3 but I last played that in alpha. SES Jutland works well at the highest settings as does cliffs of dover also.
For the record here is my system summary. Only 8gig currently as the other 8gig module is faulty and has been removed.
The disks are going to look wierd as I have an intel 128gig SSD tethered to a 1gig mechanical in cache mode. This means that the two drives are treated as one in a special intel RAID (rapid storage) array. This means any game I run gets cached to the SSD. Second time I run it things happen almost instantly. My typical windows boot is literally 10 or 15 seconds.

Could be my specific rig setup. Some games like rome2 recently seem to run better on older 1st Gen i7 CPUs than current Gen. Having said this I do have performance issues on both my old lappy and my current gen3 i5 rig. But I also do have the graphics turned up and the issues are mainly when battles are large and just after firefights start.
I might try tweaking the shadows and graphics downwards
What are your graphics settings? I assume highest since you have never had problems? I will copy then itou post em.

Michael whenever I speak of UI I am speaking primarily of the way the camera acts and the way information is presented in real time. I actually really like the way the information is presented in the task bar at the bottom of combat mission's screen.
Black cat especially paints a picture of pain staking thoroughness and slowness in WEGO that tends to negate any of the interface problems seen in real time. To have a minute of my soldiers or my life considered over an hour is something that would be hard for me to consider normal. Gives a good advantage to the human player and no pressure that would allow the more interesting errors.
Make no mistake. I am hoping that my criticism is constructive rather than simple heckling.
My intention is to be able to appreciate this masterpiece of a game.
My problem is exactly as black cat and michael display. It is really hard to get a crowd that take an hour to play a minutes game play to realise the interfaces problems in comparison to many other less realistic games real time camera and control advances.
Problem is I want to play this game. Not those less realistic games.
I actually think that if frame rates for real time improved.. which do not matter one bit in WEGO but mean the difference between the life and death of whole units in real time..... that the interface would be more tolerable. But I am trying to avoid turning down the graphics at the same time. Having said this one of my cores is at 100% constantly when playing this game.
The interface is nowhere near accurate enough when selecting units (bounding box style) or when moving the camera to a "hot spot". Admittedly this is because I probably am not using all of the hot keys for camera control. This is because I am used to other games having NO problem with this style of play and being accurate. I can play most RTS or other top down games with mouse in one hand and beverage in the other. The only game I need all my keys for is the flight simulations I play, but not for the camera! I am used to cameras just letting me smoothly bound box things and go from their. In this I go backwards and forwards when zooming in to detail units. Where a game say like sins of a solar empire lets me zoom directly to one of hundreds of units so I can see the ships smallest features in a heartbeat. This being from solar system view!
As I said I could learn the control system better. That is my fault. Because I really did not expect to need to learn what is second nature for other games.
I should add that I am that crazy about this game that I went looking for the holy grail. A utility that could spread load of one app across cores. It does not exist of course
Like I said I suspect at the core of all the interface problems is the poor frame rate that I am getting. Compounding this is the fact that the real time interface trying to do selecting and such while real time fights are happening is much harder than when one is paused and the frame rate flies through the ceiling once more.
Half the time I bound box something and the bounding box starts in a completely different place to where I started it with the mouse. Could this somehow be hidden hex blocks interfering by choosing the closest hex?

Yes, but if they hadn't purchased all the products people would say "Oh, you haven't even bought it so you don't know what you're talking about" etc.
And, by the way - re another post above, what's a "furphie" ?
Is that an Americanism?
Well Grandad,..........
A furphie is a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story. It's like getting information at a "water cooler" or "erroneous unofficial scuttlebutt".
So in Australia (I'm an Aussie) telling a few furphies is like spreading false rumours to get your way or worm your way in somewhere. Often thought of like harmless white lies and joked about.
A common usage would be "You must have told a few furphies to get that good job eh" as a sort of friendly teasing jibe.
Or perhaps a child telling "furphies" to his dad to get out of trouble.

lol. Some shower songs go for far longer than a minute!
-
Exactly. We have target armour but not the opposite. Perhaps I should just live with it using ammo or use the hide button. It's not a huge deal really. Just nice to have some punch left late game.
But not a really common thing I think I will use often.
Congrats BF, but time to get serious about your future

Cm Vietnam would be pretty dull unless air warfare and huge maps were shown properly.
this was often not a stand up fight.
