  1. I played cc3 when it first came out and continued on with cc4 and cc5 (altogether about 5 years!). Close combat is definately a fun game, and the campaigns are fun, but as you said,CM is definately more historical. The graphics are amazing, and I enjoy commanding LOTS of units. It may be turn based, but the action takes place simutaniously. I also wish there was a campaign feature, but you can create a huge map and make multi day operations.
  2. or when an opponent zips a cheap vehicle down a road on a suicide run, just to see what you have. I can just hear the conversation on that one, between a commander and the driver of a truck. "why dont you drive up that road and see what you can see before they shoot you" "It would be an honor sir, take my wallet, I wont be needing it" more like... " Have you lost your bloody mind!"
  3. This was easily done as Tigers could reverse one tread while the other tread went forward, allowing the Tiger to pivot on the spot, a feature that caught many an unsuspecting allied tank off gaurd. Keep your Tigers at a distance from the enemy tanks, and most shootouts should still be won:)
  4. Tiger Ace Michael Wittman understood the dangers of vehicles such as the 17 pounder armed Firefly. Had he had known Fireflys were in the area on that fatefull day, he would not have ventured out in an offensive sortie. Many players lose Tigers because their slow turrets cant be turned in time to engage an opponent outflanking them, and once again I will use Wittman as an example. Knowing how slow the turret was, he wouldnt bother turning it; he would simply turn the whole vehicle in the desired direction, which was a lot faster, and kept the frontal armour towards the opposition. *CONTINUED*
  5. The Question was "Is the Tiger a Heavy tank". The Allies classified the Tiger as A heavy tank because of its weight; they also classified the Panther as a heavy tank to for the same reason. The Germans classified the Tiger as a heavy tank because of its intended role to smash through enemy positions, and the Panther as a medium tank. Is the Tiger an effective heavy tank in CMBO?;probably not as effective as it should be, especially compared to CMBB apparently. Gun optics are not as good as they should be, negating the Tigers biggest asset to a degree. Also, by keeping rigorous standards throughout the war, the Tiger (E) had armour of exceptional quality. It rated the highest possible score for non brittleness (the tendency of armour to flake off when hit), of any tank in the world, making it even better than its' thickness indicated. Despite these flaws in the game, I have noticed that many people over estimate the Tigers abilities. As has been stated, by the time the allies landed in June 1944, the Tiger had been in service since late 1942. The allies had time to come up with ways to defeat it, such as upgunned tanks, and new ammunition. *CONTINUED* [ December 17, 2002, 08:27 PM: Message edited by: KG ThorsHammer ]
  6. from my experience, flames do not cause nearly as many casualties as they should. It is hard enough to get them into position too use, but when you do they inflict little damage. The only real benefits they have are driving enemy infantry from buildings, at which point they are vulnerable to being gunned down, and causing panic (once again leaving them vulnerable to being gunned down).
  7. just a little remake of the original Le Lorey a hard stand scenario. In the remake, Tiger Ace Michael Wittman is transferred to the area and the pair find themsleves in a desperate situation against impossible odds. Here is a link to download the file. http://members.tripod.com/hg_thorshammer/id21.htm
  8. if it was a regular old sherman, than fate was just against your Tiger. If it was an upgunned sherman, it would still be rare at that distance, unless it fired a tungsten round. If it was a firefly, than It would be very possible. If one checks the armour penetrating stats of the Tigers 88mm vs the Fireflys 17 pounder in the game, the Fireflys gun actually has a better AP performance.
  9. The Germans had also developed s disposable one shot flamethrower for their parachute units, designated a Einstossflammenwerfer 46. The FmW 46 was a tube with a length of 60cm and a diameter of 7cm; it fired a fire burst that lasted for 0.5 sec. to a range of up to 30m. the complete weapon weighed 3.6 kg and proved to be very effective and popular, a total number of 30,700 was produced in late 1944 and early 1945, many of them were used in the defense of Berlin. I havnt purchased CMBB yet, but as it has never been mentioned, I will assume it was not included in the game. Such a lightweight weapon could be carried by a single man who would also have the benefit of speed, compared to the lumbering flameteams in the game. Included in infantry squads like a panzerfaust, it could be a nasty surprise for both enemy armour and infantry.
