It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Yes, but there seems to be no way to avoid using the explosives. I just thought I'd read that there would be.Originally posted by ParaBellum:Use the area fire command with pioneer troops at less than 30m distance and the "use explosive" text will appear with the target information.

Oh, believe me, there are trees north of the Arctic Circle.Originally posted by wwb_99:Yeah, units in LOS is the biggie. I have one very evil op set above the arctic circle (read NO TREES WHATSOEVER).

Just curious: I have read reports about using satchel charges (presumably in the US version) where you use area fire and are asked "Use explosives?" In my version, explosives are used automatically, it's impossible not to use them.

Ok, y'all were right about the walls thing. I tried again and set up my troops (BTW not veteran like I said, but regulars, oops...) behind the walls. I just thought they needed to have "wall" in their location window to benefit from teh cover, honest mistake
Of course now the SMG squads weren't as invincible as they first seemed. I mean, they pack a wallop at short range, but they can be taken out.
So the whole point of my thread, it seems, has evaporated. Oh well, thanks for the tips, guys.

The ability to map your own keys would be very handy, though. Like somebody said, AltGr 8 and AltGr 9 means I don't ever use zoom. Now it I could remap zoom to, say, PgUp and PgDn...

The SMG's were in fact on ground level. Still... Is it a fact that height advantage will negate Wall protection? Seems odd to me. If I'm crouching behind a wall, they'd have to have a pretty darn great height advantage over me to negate the protection. Could somebody confirm this?Originally posted by Bone_Vulture:Walls offer limited protection against targets at the same height. A squad located in a tall building on the opposite side of the wall will obviously shoot over it with ease.
No arty, no armor. No smoke. I do have a coupla flamers, but getting close enough to use them is another matter. What comes to the scenario that you're describing: unless you have some serious armor/artillery backup, flanking might be the only option. Routing troops out of buldings usually takes hefty crossfire. -
Hi,
I'm currently playtesting a Stalingrad scenario, and I must say going up against those Russian SMG-armed squads is like ramming your head into a wall.
Example: I had a company of rifle squads behind a wall (65m away from the building), ready to lay down suppressing fire while the panzerpioneers got up close an personal. I hit "GO", and within two seconds my ENTIRE company of VETERAN rifle squads are at least shaken, and several are panicking. Ok, so maybe 65m is too close. (Or am I placing too much trust in Walls when it comes to protection? Or am I even using them correctly? My troops looked like they were embedded inside the wall and their location said "wall". That's when you get the cover, right?)
Thing is, if you don't get fairly close, then the Russians will simply keep concealment and it's a stalemate. Even if you do run a sacrificial halfsquad up close and the Russians start firing (and it isn't even a given that the AI will bother firing at a pesky scouting halfsquad - excellent AI programming there by the way), you don't even have a full minute to blast him with all you've got before he gets concealment again. And you can't just stand back and area fire at every location where you suspect there are Russians. You'll run out of ammo before Turn 15.
So there you have it. Does anybody have a clue about how to evict those pesky Russians?
(And BTW - were the Russians the only ones to have dedicated SMG squads?)

I have DL'ed the loader but not tried it yet. Will it be compatible with the forthcoming patches?

Whoa, now that is what I call a web database!
Excellent work!

This sounds so good! It seems to me that many ASL-CB conversions are just a direct port of the maps and the forces, squad by squad. Many would-be conversionists don't realize that the systems are different enough that the conversions need several rounds of playtest and balancing, and also extra work on the maps to look real in the CM 3D environment. I tried myself, realized my artistic limitations when it came to mapmaking, and gave up.Originally posted by ASL Veteran:My own project is ongoing as I want to make sure every scenario is fully tested and tweaked before making them available for download.
It is a good thing that ASL Vet thinks that the job is worth doing right.
Also, I REALLY like the themed battles idea. Immersion is heightened greatly by putting the battles in historic perspective.
I would be happy to help with playtest in any way I can, though for the time being I play only solo vs the AI.

Or that tall, muscular, strapping blonde lad, Hitler himself!Originally posted by Nidan1:Since all German soldiers were blonde haired, blue eyed aryan types, it would stand to reason that a lot of them were eyeglass wearers since blued eyed people are more susceptible to eye problems. Take a look at the perfect "example of Aryan purity" Heinrich Himmler.

I guess I must really suck, huh. I did get a draw on my first attempt at Hill 312 though.

Quite prevalent, it would seem. IS-3 is a dead ringer for IS-2. T-44 also seems to share model with one of the other tanks.Originally posted by kipanderson:Bone-Vulture, hi,
There are a number of vehicles with shared graphics. This is jargon for saying they have the wrong graphics. The reason is simply the huge work load the BFC guys were under. 300 plus vehicles and all those landscape graphics to do. This issue is known by BFC and as new patches come out the vehicles with “shared graphics” will gradually get their own correct graphics. If you follow me.
All the best,
Kip

Hats off to Wolfe. This stuff is frighteningly comprehensive. I shudder to think how much work went into it.

That's the timeframe where I will be doing nothing else. I DO plan however to resume my life by then and play CMBB in moderation.Originally posted by Seanachai:Bah! I wave my hand at you! Two weeks? TWO WEEKS??!!

The game now distinguishes between "small flames" that don't make the location uninhabitable, and "large flames" that are impassable. I just read it in the manual yesterday!Originally posted by Nick Carter:In a few games lately I have noticed troops seeking cover in buildings that are on fire, and staying for a few turns. I didn't think to save any turns showing this but thought I'd bring it up.

1) I couldn't really afford to buy it right now.
2) I can't afford to spend the inevitable two weeks straight playing it.
3) My soscial life will take a serious hit.
Oh well, the deed is done. Might as well make the best of a bad situation. Now where can I find those CMBB mods...

Oh, I didn't realize that was what you said / meant. But this _is_ a consistent thing though? Must be a feature then, and not a bug.Originally posted by demoss:Well, since I just posted exactly that, and you obviously read it (since you quoted it), I'd say that about answers your question.

No argument there, but there's a big difference between "no serious damage" and "knocked out."</font>Originally posted by demoss:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr /> Well, a 150mm HE shell should be able to rattle a PzIII, even if it was buttoned. [smile]

Well, a 150mm HE shell should be able to rattle a PzIII, even if it was buttoned.Originally posted by demoss:The penetration message isn't necessarily that helpful if HE is involved. I just saw a "front upper hull hit - no serious damage" from a KV-2 which actually knocked out the target Pz III with that shot... maybe because the bonehead crew had unbuttoned.

Jonp:
Well... Like I said, I don't care much for SS-adoring geeks. In fact, swastikas don't do it for me at all, even in the context of WWII. I downloaded the swastika unit markers, but after one game I went back to the ol' trusty Balkankreuz. Reason for this: I don't think I've ever seen a tank marked with a swastika, they all used the balkankreuz. It all comes down to immersion and what feels right. That's why I take exception to renaming units and pretending that a part of history never happened...but this is kinda straying away from the topic of Tips&Tricks...Originally posted by jonp:Who really cares if a unit says "SS"???
I never understood why people care so much
