Must chime in: I have played the game fairly intensively for the last two months, and I have never seen the sneak-to-exhaustion problem. In fact, I am constantly amazed at what my (regular) troops put up with and endure.Originally posted by Battlefront.com:I dunno, maybe Redwolf is playing a different CMBB game than I am

Hi Biltong,
Like all the gents above, I'd like a copy. Email in the profile. Thanks!

Alternately, the CMBB disc lives in the dvd, and the CMBO disc lives in the burner.Originally posted by Firefly:It's easy. The CMBB disc lives in the DVD drive, the CMBO disc lives in the CD drive.

I knew that.Originally posted by Zakalwe:Close enough, it's from "Use of Weapons". To be pedantic, it's Iain M, Banks when he's writing SF, the mainstream stuff is just plain Iain Banks. (Either way he's quite brilliant.)
Zak
I've read all of his sci-fi stuff - most of it several times. His contemporary stuff is great too. Use of Weapons in one of my favourites, but it's been a while so I couldn't quite place the name

Ok, thanks. So until I can spot this happening again, and be a little more aware of what exactly is happening, I'll assume LOS (not spotting
) is reciprocal.
Thanks again.

...but I suspect your truck drivers aren't.Originally posted by Zakalwe:...and I'm loving every bloody minute.

"Zakalwe", correct me if I'm wrong, but that's outta an Ian Banks novel, right?

Michael, yes I got a "blocked" message and the LOS tool turned black.Originally posted by Michael emrys:Joques, did you really get a message that said "blocked"? If so, that is a different matter than we have been posting about. This is different from spotting.
Was there smoke from any source between the HMG and your unit when you measured LOS that was not there when the HMG fired? That's the only way that I can think of that an LOS becomes blocked between units that do not move.
Michael
It was not a spotting issue. I don't remember now whether there was any smoke.
Like I said, I might have missed something or been imagining things. I know for a fact that a coupla nights ago I kept waking up from nightmares about what's happening to my tanks in my pbem game of Izum Diet Plan, but that's beside the point.
Anyway, my question remains: Given that spotting is not a factor, will LOS always be reciprocal?
-
I might be imagining this, but a few games ago I could have sworn that I got fired upon my a HMG but when attempting to fire back was told that LOS was blocked. Is my memorey that flaky, or are there instances where LOS isn't reciprocal?

Yes, actually Oleg Maddox does just that in the world of flightsims with IL-2 and the forthcoming IL-2: Forgotten Battles.Originally posted by Schoerner:Can anyone name a company with the worldwide best product in a certain category AND taking care that much about the customers' wishes and keeping a direct contact?

And people say the visuals in this game are sub-par. Hah!

I'd settle for separate 3D models for all vehicles currently in the game.Originally posted by Ryan Crierie:Yeah, I hope BFC can find some way to accomodate
us all...I'd be willing to pay $25+ for a
CMBB addon with dozens of new vehicles,
more terrain types, and unique buildings like the
Reichstag, etc etc

This one is a real pain. I never understood why a unit in a foxhole in plain view of my infantry would suddenly "disappear" from sight. Is it a feature of EFOW? In that case, I may go back to regular Full FOW...Originally posted by Eden Smallwood:#2) Ironic Area Fire - The unit in foxhole "disappears", so you Area Fire the foxhole, yet the unit reappears, and your unit *continues* to Area Fire, (to little effect), rather than target the now visible enemy unit.

You know, that is how I've actually always pronounced it, but I thought it was incorrect.Originally posted by pakfan:The 'St' at the beginning is not like in 'standard', it's more like 'sht' in 'Ashton'. The 'standard'-pronunciation is correct, but only used in certain regional dialects.
Thanks for the heads up.

Correct.Originally posted by Prinz Eugen:Yea, that's Finnish, that ! No can do, eh ?
My late grandfather was actually part Finnish (the other part British - yeah, don't ask) but I never made it that far in learning the language. I did see Talvisota with no subtitles, though.

Since nobody is reading the Jagdpanther thread anymore, I'll give this its own thread.

Hi Rune. Yes, it was a complete blast!Originally posted by rune:Why? Was it fun playing as the Germans? Yes? Then why restrict it? Now play as the Russians and see how you fare.
Yes, it was made for the "Tiger is too weak" crowd.

But the tactical challenge was...unchallenging.

No spoilers here, but...uh, guys, is this one even supposed to be played against the Allied AI?
Doesn't say in the briefing.

Ok, I'll make another attemt now that I'm sober and hopefully lucid.
A splash screen is the main game screen. Ok. I have the one with the Soviet propaganda posters and it is excellent!
But what about the picture that gets displayed (at least on a win98 rig) right at the start of booting the game? Any way of changing that one? (Can't find the relevant bmp)
-
Uh...
A "splash screen" is the main screen in-game, right, with the buttons to start game, or design scenario or whatever?
How about the pic that appears on screen two seconds after you double-click the CMBB icon? What's that called? And is it possible to change it? (I browsed the .bmps but couldn't find anything...)
-
Amen. I don't get all the gripes about "brittle infantry". If anything, I often think that infantry perform above and beyond the call of duty in CMBB. At least they're tougher than I'd ever be. I've gotten away with murder in CMBB, plotting insane open-ground assaults and then sitting gawking at the screen going "My (regular) squads actually survived that?!?"Originally posted by Capt. Toleran:I find that infantry are not that brittle at all, once you figure out what you can and can't get away with.
