  1. Seems like no one hasn't answered your question, so I'll make my comment and disappear into the night with my "no experience from modding". There is already one track mod. Dirty tracks, so why done something that has been already done? What I, and probably many others would like to see, is the winter mod's. There is already winter uniforms for German troops, but what about the Russian's? Also winter camo for vehicles, guns etc, would be really much appriciated. And, one request for people making these mod's. Please don't forget the minor nations in this game. Not all of us play constantly as German or Russian troops. I have now played few IP games with Romanian troops and it's really fun, or should I say "interesting".
  2. Yes after I downloaded new drivers that didn't go to version 30.xx the game has worked just fine. No lock ups anymore. Before that, I also had to turn off the power from the computer, because I couldn't do anything else.
  3. I had the same problem with the same video card. Advice was that I need to download new drivers for the card, because I had the original drivers that came with the card. I see that you have the latest drivers, but people here keep on saying that you shouldn't download drivers beyond 29.xx. Those have been tested that they work with CMBB, above that and there is no guarantee. But maybe someone knows better. This is just what I have gathered from this forum.
  4. Nice site. Just downloaded everything I wanted. (Which was almost everything)
  5. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong but can't download. I have tried every possible solution that has been offered here...and nothing... So far I have been trying for about two weeks and I have been able to download three mod's. That's it. Sometimes it starts to download nicely, other times I get all sorts of erros. Just tried again and nothing. If the server is busy or has used all of it's bandwith, I would like to know where this server is physically located so I could set my clock to wake me up when the clock hit's midnight in the server area. I used to be a moderator and one of the founding members for one forum area (Aquarium related) and we first had the problem that the traffic was so huge that in four hours all traffic was blocked and everybody needed to wait until the midnight came, I think in Germany. After that we could start posting again...for four hours.
  6. At least the tanks in CMBB can panic infantry by running over them. I think this was explained in the manual. I would assume this also includes guns and maybe light vehicles also? Can't remember was this possible in CMBO...
  7. I think it's correct to have conscript FJ troops. Altough it should be depended what year it is. In 1944 and 1945, the FJ troops were not the same troops that had been used in low countries and later in Greece. For instance, the 9th FJ Division was the first one to throw their weapons away and run for their life when the Russian attack in Seelow hills began.
  8. Actually I'm currently playing one PBEM game that's a really nerve wrecking. There's one big hill and our trooop at the moment are on opposite side of the hill. You can't see his troops, you can't hit them with artillery. At the moment there's nothing much to do, than use your propaganda abilities...and my opponet is quite good in propaganda. Couldn't sleep last night very good, because his propaganda is taking away my peace of mind.
  9. I think it would be ok to use that same winter camo for all troops. However, how about making that white camo a little muddy? Now it looks too clean.
  10. Um... In CMBO the troops are named correctly, as Waffen SS. At least if you bought the game few years ago, when you only could buy the game from USA. Today they are selling CMBO in stores and about that version I cannot say a thing. There is a patch for CMBB that renames WG troops to Waffen SS. Unfortunately the site where this patch was, went down about a week ago, if I remember it right. I never got a chance to download this patch, sorry to say because I really would have liked to have it. I'm hoping it will be put available to some other site in near future. This topic also is not a new one and if you do a search, you should come up with a quite a number of posts.
  11. I share your frustration. I posted an agry comment here also. As the whole game even didn't start. Lucky enough, I was already in the prosess of getting an new computer and with new video cards and everything the game started...but froze in every scenario I tried to play. Then I downloaded new drivers and finally I'm happy to say that I have enjoyed and played CMBB. It's not the Battlefront's fault. And it's not the fault of other game developers. It's just that almost everyday the companies are releasing a new video card, new this and that and there is no way that game developers can keep up with all this progress. They just can't test their game on all systems. Impossible...and sad. There is something very wrong with all this and I certainly would like to change it, but don't know how? News that PC games are a dying genre, should set the alarms, but it seems that it hasn't. Ten years from now, if this development continues, no one don't need to wonder that what happened to PC games...people got frustrated and went to be zombies and play some Playstation game... Meanwhile...I suggest you go and download new drivers for your video card, go through every post on this forum about nonfunctioning CD's, as there has been few and you can download missing files from internet. And generally, go through every post about non funtioning game...they probably will help. I had some problems with CMBO back then, but I came here to read posts and found the problem (the intro movie) [ October 19, 2002, 06:17 PM: Message edited by: P5 ]
  12. Here are few clips from that review and honestly, I'm not sure is he talking about CMBB? There is nothing much you can do but watch your men follow your orders through. You can’t even manipulate them in any way while they move so you’re stuck looking over the action. And when the actions are carried out, the computer-controlled opponent then makes its move. Think of it as a stylized game of chess where you move your army and then wait patiently as the other side moves theirs. Hmmm...It's probably just me and the fact that I don't talk English as my first language, but I understand this in a way that the writer hasn't actually played CMBB or then I have some different game in my hard drive as the game I play, all moves are carried out same time. It's not like chess, where I move my tower and then you'll move yours. Must be some other game... There aren’t even any noticeable special effects, especially when a tank manages to destroy another tank. I agree, this is a really depressing. I was expecting some music played in the background and a text: "Your Panther Tank Managed To Destroy Russian T-26. Congratulations!!!" The only sweeping music can be found at the main menu option and is absent throughout the rest of the game as well. Yeah, lack of music is a really, really depressing, I can't even say how much I need Cipramil for this, because I certainly would have liked to hear Erika played over and over and over again during one battle. And then the next battle would start and I would hear that song again. Talonsoft's East Front Syndrom would be ready...again... Playing through the single player mode, you will come to discover that the computer-controlled opponent hardly ever makes a tactical mistake. In fact, it is near impossible to try to anticipate your opponent’s next move while the computer does a great job of anticipating yours. Seems unfair? It is. Maybe he has some other version of this game as my AI isn't that clever fellow. I wish he would be, but he isn't. My father who doesn't play that much, can beat the AI, so I would think that this writer who writes reviews of computer games, could manage to do that also... (BTW, Just bought CMBB for my father, so we can play IP game...and yes, I can crush him completely )
  13. What I have read, the Germans threw everything that they had against the Russians. That means that it was a very mixed fighting force. SS guards which never probably had seen any real fighting, young boys (we have all seen that picture?), Volkssturm units with no real training, Heer units that were not in the best fighting condition and didn't have no officers anymore, units that had only few men left. This is just the general picture that I have gotten from fighting in Berlin. Maybe in scenarios about Berlin in 1945, the fighting force should be very mixed. In experience, some maybe should be conscript units, few veteran or elite units, rest of them green or regular. Maybe put few platoons without HQ unit? (Don't know if that is possible in editor?) Just thoughts. It's easy to give instructions, when I haven't done a single scenario to any game, ever
  14. Luck, probably has nothing to do with this game, well sometimes it does. But in my case, it would have helped if I would have at least opened the manual and not just rushed into first scenario. Not knowing many changes since CMBO. You can probably imagine my horror when I saw that things aren't going in a same manner as in CMBO. Then it was time to take the manual out of the box and come to this forum area.
  15. Maybe to that number is included all the casulties in the offensive of taking Berlin? Not just the casulties that occured inside of the city, but the fighting in the suburbs and on that ridge (can't remember the name) where the Germans had established their defensive position before the actual city.
  16. Certainly sounds like a fun. From a German viewpoint. I must be a masochist, but I do enjoy battles (In computer games) when there is almost no hope in sight. I played Berlin scenario in Steel Panthers so much that I can still remember the map of that scenario. I can try your scenario if you send it to me. kimmo.nummela@kolumbus.fi [ October 17, 2002, 01:18 PM: Message edited by: P5 ]
  17. I saw a book called Berlin 1945, at the bookstore today, by Anthony Beevor. At least I enjoyed his last book, Stalingrad. I was just wondering has anyone read Berlin 1945, because it's a bit expensive book and I would like to hear comments about it before spending some more money. Yeah I know. This is not the library & reading forum and to make this message little less OT, how about scenario pack: Berlin 1945. Samekind that they are doing about Stalingrad at the moment? Altough not full of so interesting and equally matched battles, but to this scenario pack could be included the battles in and around Berlin during that year. And at least I would enjoy watching Soviets bringing some heavy caliber guns around the corner and starting to shoot the house down where my troops currently are.
  18. This was my first scenario that I tried in CMBB...and no I didn't won it. I think it was a major defeat. I will try this sometimes again, because at that time I wasn't used to all these new features. For instance, I didn't use advance or contact orders at all while playing this. I think the right strategy is to move all the infantry to the right flank. In the wooded area. Then they can start suppress the enemy while few squads sneak to the nearby houses. After that bringing your armored cars closer helps to suppress some more of the Russians. This is where I got while playing and then the time ran out. I'm always too careful while playing. After the game I looked the map and the condition of Russian troops and most of the troops near the church were panicked or broken. So if I would have had some more time, I would probably have been able to get into the church and after that it would have been easy. If, Probably, Maybe... But I agree, it's not an easy scenario and after the game I thought that if the rest of the scenarios are this difficult, I don't have a chance in this game.
  19. Don't know about harping, but comparing Finnish people to Irish is quite accurate. Both people enjoy above all, to drink alcohol so much that eventually: 1)They pass out and don't remember a thing in the morning 2)They start to pick a fight...with anybody and anywhere. Don't matter if it's your grandma... 3)They drink constantly. If it's your cat's birthday...well that's a good reason to get a bottle.
  20. Found this while surfing game sites. Mini Combat Interesting I should say. Same front cover picture and all. Has anyone tried that? I would like to hear what's it like, before I register and that way give an permission to send more junk mail to me.
  21. I moved my troops to the hill from the right flank. Just crawling outside from the firing range of that bunker. Everything went ok to the first flag. While starting to move my troops on the hill to take the second flag in the center, I was hitted by a quite heavy Russian artillery rounds (or at least it seemed like a heavy rounds), that eventually panicked and routed half of my troops. Never got to the second flag in the center. Reinforcement troops were able to destroy and rout the Russians in the woods and got very close to the flag in the left side, making it neutral. With a last remaining effort, I ordered few troops that were still in a quite good condition, to run along the trench towards the center flag and making it neutral. It was a draw. I certainly will play this one again.
  22. Yes, I just thought that I wouldn't have won that scenario, with a strategy like that, if there would have been a human player guiding Russian troops. Not a chance...
  23. I actually think that some of the scenarios that are included in the game CD, have a little too tigh turn limits to complete the task properly while not wasting too many men. POSSIBLE SPOILER!! (Sapristi Scenario) . . . . . . . . . . . . . Like this Italian scenario where you need to take the two bridges. Just played that one and with a first try I thought of flanking the Russians from the left side, but after I got my troops in an attack position, there wasn't enough time to do anything else than just run against that factory. With a bad result... Second try and a straight frontal assault against the factory. With a this strategy I won the scenario, but I don't think that no sane officer would have ordered his troops to advance in an open wheatfield when there's machineguns waiting for them in factory windows...
  24. Yes I did that tonight. Too tired now to try did it help. I also downloaded Windows2000 Service Pack 3. Just frustrated that you always need to download all sorts of updates to drivers etc... Modern age I guess. Anyways, Thank You for the great game. I hope I do enjoy this as much as I enjoyed CMBO.
  25. I have been trying to play five scenarios now and I haven't been able to finish not a single scenario as the game always at some point freezes totally. Mouse wont move, no sounds, ctrl+alt+del doesn't help...taking out the power from computer helps, but after that it doesn't matter even though I would have saved the game as all the saved games are gone... Just great. This probably is the best strategy game around and this probably is also the last computer game I will ever buy again. I've had my share of non functioning games in the last few years. I can't remember that I ever had this much problems five years ago, not to even mention ten years ago. For CMBB I had to buy a new computer. That did help, at least the game will start, but no use of playing it... If anybody has ever suggestions, I would greatly appriciate them. 1,8 GB Duron AMD GeForce 4MX 440 256 RAM Some basic information about my new computer.
