  1. Something is commonly happening to me that is begining to grind slightly.

I am at present to committed to cmbo PBEM to take on anyone at cmbb pbem so have been getting in games against tha AI. This means I must look through the scenarios looking for suitable games. This is made very difficult because the large majority of scenario designers neglect to state how best a given scenario should be played.

I opened a scenario up (hornets nest), no indication of how it should be played, but given it dipictes a russian break through I made a geuss that it might be suitable for Axis v AI allies ( russians with loads of stuff etc etc ) However upon looking over the map I notice that some of the terrain is labeled "suspected german positions" I assume it hasnt been labeled as such for the sake of the AI. I also assume that it hasnt been labeled as such for the axis player as well he knows exactly where the germans are. It must have labled so by the designer for the sake of a human allies player. I should not be having to use so much conjecture to assertain the purpose of a scenario. This also means I have opened up this scenario and seen the defensive layout of the axis which basicaly ruins it if I want to play from the Allies perspective. I also prefer to play scenarios PBEM to QB as QB often turn into a battle about who has tweaked there QB purchases the best etc etc, scenarios are allways more fun played double blind. When opening up a scenario looking for a game against the AI, I am allways afraid that I am going to prematurley look at a map belonging to a ment for PBEM scenario that would have been an absolute classic. I have this fear because often the designer does not mention how he intended the game to be played. I know I can go over to the scenario depot and look it up there and at present this is what I do. Its a shame because an otherwise great scenario that has taken a great deal of time and effort to create can be spoiled by this one oversight.

However we look at it, lets look at it in a way that means we get to eat the fruit.

  2. Playing as axis a certain scenario that will rename nameless.

At the start of this scenario the enemy has what seems like an entire squadron tasked with my destruction.

Anyway I had a lot of half tracks. Im thinking watching the game that in the movies soldiers allways bail out of halftrack and pegg for cover when the see an airplane coming to strafe them and wouldnt it be cool if they did that in CM, but hey thats a lot to ask isnt it. But guess what, this is exactlty what the pixel soldiery of CM do when their half track is targeted for a strafing run by an airplane, infact it dosnt even have to be there HT, even if they are just close to it they independently bail out of the HT. CM allways delivers when something happens that you then want to watch over and over again. In this particular instance this relates to blokes jumping out of the halftrack and pegging for cover, but no the ivan air craft aint just gona strafe, hes got a present for his uninvited geusts yep whoooooooooooooo BOOOOM. All dead. Fantastic.

  3. Well, I advanced to the very top of the map in the first battle. It didnt scroll so for the rmaining battles the AI only had about 20 m ti deploy in. That was a laugh.

Realy its a shame the scenario dseigner puts in all the effort to make this sceanrio, nice map etc etc then shoots themselves in the foot by advising that the human takes the wrong side (allies) in the briefing. I could give the AI a bonus but now I've played it it will have lost all of its potwential for surprise so why bother.

  4. SMALL SPOILER WARNING.

Dont get much time to do play cmbb.

Decided to start a operation that I could keep ticking over for a while. Decided to go for 21st Army Counter Attacks. I choose this because the briefing specificaly states that the scenario is best played as the allies against the AI.

    My arse.

First battle, attacking up hill against entrenched enemy, that would seem to fit the Human versus AI bill, but NO. 20 or so turns later I have advanced all the way up the map and have overwhelmed the enemy with little infact no difficulty. It was a peice of piss. Im not boasting, Im dissapointed by this outcome. Anyone could have done it. Too late I realized that who had ever writen the briefing had advised on the wrong side make up. The human in this scenario should obviously take axis.

So thats my one chance to spend an evening this week playing cmbb ruined.

A great addition to the patch in my opinion would be a small text file that just gave out the best way to play the scenarios on the disk, e.g. which ones are ment for PBEM/TCP or Human v AI etc, and also details about what side to pick etc. Anyway just felt the need for a mini rant.

  5. I to was playing that scenario, things were going well, I engaged/was engaged by the german armour things turned from good to general order for retreat very quickly.

What we have to remember is that we are CMBB newbies. I think every one is relying too heavily on there experience with CMBO and as such consider themselves experienced when they approach the CMBB battlefield.Hence when the AI hands them a heavy defeat they blame force inequalities rather than there own inexperience. We should realize that we all on a steep lurning curve, delving into a game of great depth that punishes mistakes. As we (I) am ignorant of many of the variables in CMBB ( the main reason my armour failed was it due to my tank crews (lots of green and inexperienced)behaving in a way they never would have done in CMBO, and thus I didnt factor this in when framing my attack, I also have a better idea of the relative capabilities of units I have never used/encountered before. I am crawling my way up the curve. CMBB demands more of the attacker, but in my opinion CMBO demanded to little and therefore things are as they should be. It is true that in Directive number 3 there is an avneue of attack that if used by the attacker will help his chances immensly, but this is our job as commanders in the field, to identify them.

  6. Hey its my first post and just wanted to get you attention.

Just want to say that at last I'm getting CMBB and that buying it today will probably wreck my life in so many ways. Been having one of those devil-angel on shoulder converstions for the last hour with the angel ( I think ) going look Ben you have responsibilities now, your 10 children havnt eaten for 3 days and jacks scurvy is really begining to bight etc etc, that 30 pounds could goto wards your wifes operation etc etc.

On the other shoulder is the devil going but it now set up QB with sturm tigers and red infantry etc etc.

Devil wins it easily. Leavinhg slum now going shop.
