  1. Welcome to the club of people that all feel excited like you do about a game like this... Kudos to Hubert as usual...
  2. I might be interested in doing a dutch mod, how about it Hubert?
  3. Is there any difference at all between a minor joining you of their free will and you conquering them? I don't see any reason to let them join of their free will if I can have my units gain experience on their units that are worth crap anyway and then easily take a capital for 200-350 points. I believe a minor joined of their own volition should boost MPPS per turn more than one conquered PERIOD, so the germans shouldn't be able to get the same from a conquered nation as they would from one that joined freely. Willing people contributed more to the german war effort than unwilling ones! Is this represented at all?
  4. It is difficult enough to take britain to allow them to have canada as a retreat base! Note that letting Egypt revert to neutral would not be advisable, as realistically speaking the germans could just waltz in there bar for the fact that the English were defending it (which they would prob not do when UK was taken). What I see as feasable would be to conquer the territory, but treat the remaining brits there as partizans?
  5. DON't forget that the first turn you land you get a readiness bonus to attack, so its best to attack immediately after you have landed!!
  6. I speak German and it is definitely luftflotte....luft=air and flotte=fleet
  7. Why is everyone ditching on Spain? I think its good to conquer it, seeing as it is pretty easy to do just station a few armour divisions along the border and rive those babies right for madrid and barcelona, then bomb em and take em in 2 turns, take another turn tot take out portugal and bam you got yerself an easy 600 prestige with almost no losses. You also improve your income by somewhat (I think +50 prod in total) and can take out gibraltar if you want to. (I usually don't bother, they cant produce there and the unit is in a fortification.)Obviously this creates a bigger front along which the allies can land, but a few corps in spain take care of that. They always try to land at normandy anyway unless some space is completely undefended. Taking Russia is a bitch and building a wall of armies & leaders + some fleets generallly keeps them out while you can train up (for free) your armies and take additional countries. against the AI I would note that he doesn't spend his points wisely. He just keeps throwing manpower at my wall, while my tech improves and his chances get lower. This even happens at highest difficulty setting and +1 prestige. Also let Italy take part in the war by giving them the balkan countries, this should booost em up to about 200-250 points. I also station some armour for some quick action if russia leaves some units out in the open.Once I take all the points I can get then I go and use some sea units to knock out all the fleets, and then I take canada, station airfleets & leader there and then I take USA. Once I've taken out USA I focus on attacking England & Russia at the same time (as at this point germany has 500+ points per turn and Italy has 250+). I never actually got any further than taking England and getting stuck somewhere near moscow before the demo runs out. If the AI would be a little smarter on the tech front then I agree take out Russia first, but considering the limited tactics in the game by the AI when playing Russia its easier to go for the small fish first and have a whoop-ass 4-star army when you start cutting into those limitless armies of Russia.
  8. Note that in the demo, you get full value for units if they are on a city square and connected to there major by land. You only get half value if they are connected by sea only and something i between if you are connected by land, but you're not in a city square. Also note that when you're researching industrial tech that the value drops by 10% per tech, so better disband before tech (which can make you some prestige - e.g sell reserves and save money till breakthru and then spent it on new units). Obviously value also rises by about 10% per tech if you have overstrength units.
  9. No replies?...so you all want this then
  10. Another one for the list: In Multiplayer games the ability to give one or the other side the advantage? Or is it included?
  11. I do agree that they are more useful as allies, but that shouldn't exclude the possibility to take their resources.
  12. I thought I'd compile a list of things I would like to see in SC if not in SC2. Lemme know what you think or what you believe is missing. Strategic Command Wishlist: 1. Ability to attack ‘friendly’ majors both if they are already on your side or not (eg Germany cannot attack Italy), this seems viable though especially since if Germany attacks the Italians, they’ll lose all the boats (which is a butt load of points) and gain between 750-1000 (which covers about 2 out of the 5 boats) as usual. 2. TCP/IP & IPX support, but I believe this is to be implemented anyway 3. Multiplayer with the ability to select which ally/axis to play (so that up to 5 people can play the game) 4. World theatre (very unlikely for this release, but heck it rulez), including Japan into the game, in which case I would exclude Italy as a major since they were more of a patsy anyway and make Japan the major (also more useful if you want to pursue the multiplayer theme, as Japan had a lot more resources/tech then Italy). But maybe the scenario editor can already allow for this? 5. Text-based rule scheme as used in games like Alpha Centauri, to allow modding of the rules. Such as adding units, adding tech, balancing base rules/tech rules, etc etc, this should allow people to make some of the changes they want without you needing to do that. Most programmers make this in a binary file, but it shouldn’t be a lot of work to recode it in a text file and make the game read it from there. Lesser Requests 6. The Low Countries represented by the Dutch flag (and Amsterdam as the port?), this since the Dutch put up more of a fight anyway than the Belgians and they had a ‘bigger’ army. 7. Ability to further define difficulty by adding tech options (eg selecting tech boost/penalty for selected majors)
  13. I think it is shipping out of Ireland, but I'm not sure
  14. Hubert, I was hoping I could attack italy as the germans. This also seems viable as you can attack spain and such. Why are you blocked from attacking a major (eg if you set italy to neutral they basically are just in the way for germany) that doesn't come in on your side anyway? Pls, Pls fix this in the final release, if you can.
  15. In my most recent game I took out france the way you did and then followed through on vichy france (well, the french part anyway) and also took out spain. This all with the germans, since the italians really aren't worth s***, except for their boats (which if deployed correctly can clear the meditterenean of hostile boats allowing for an invasion of africa by italy, though you need more units - which italy doesnt get becuz of too low mpp) My MPP for the last turn were 368... I also took switzerland just for the hell of it. I tried to take out africa but failed cuz no air support You know of a way to strengthen armies at all, except for xperience?
  16. Interesting Idea really this 3d... But what strikes me abouyt 3D is that it would leave little room (as mentioned before) for hexes. Hexes is the core of the game as it is now. As well a flat map can work very well, if you need some proof try dogsowar (free oldie game) at web page 3d is overhyped in my opinion anyway, as are real-time strategy games. WW2 had very little to do with "vertical" strategy but mostly with "horizontal" strategy. Last note after having played the game for a while: -Why o why are the low countries represented by a belgian flag? the netherlands is bigger and played a more prominent role in resisting the germans (larger army)...same for the units.
  17. Hi again I just thought up this one too: If you are looking for a way to increase user friendliness I can recommend adding tool tips (eg when hovering over items it says what they do) or right clicking to get help. Especially in the tech screen this could be helpful (to see what you are investing in anyway without having to dig up a document). This doesn't need to be extensive, just clear
  18. Hi you guys.. Just a quick question about multiplayer functionality. Did you consider making each major power playable as a power? One of the things which makes an old time favorite wargame of me very enjoyable is the fact that I can team up with another player and take down the germans as a team (game is called dogs of war - very basic and old, try it to see what I mean -free-). If it is not included in the upcoming version, maybe you could consider it something for a future release? On the whole the engine is pretty smooth! Greetz, Silvercloud
