  1. Theike, I have used some of your maps for TCP games and they really offer very challenging moments. Besides they look beautiful and accuratetly crafted, something that really counts for me. Medium to large sized maps with farmlands and villages with small to modest hills and decent tree coverage are my favourite. Maps that offer strategic thinking in a large scale but do not undermine small unit

    action are the ideal IMO.

Attention to small details is really crucial to make a map interesting. I dont like scattered woods here and there that make the terrain complicated for no reason. I prefer rather clearly defined areas of LOS if possible.

    Keep up your good work!

  2. Under fire and close to the enemy group movement is most of the times not very effective. In many cases though I use even in combat the 1-waypoint group command with significant success. It is just a matter of experience. Combinined with micromanagement, group movement can be

    useful even in combat situations.

I play mainly quick battles via TCP. Thus, I need to travel my troops a lot and fast. And when you have a battalion sized infantry force and you can't make a simple "go straight and then right" move for your platoon things can be very frustrating.

When you are attempting a company sized maneuver, the overwatch role for instance is up to a whole platoon and not a single squad. The roles are upgraded to a larger scale. You have to maneuver your company as if you had a 3-squad platoon, with each platoon representing a squad. You need to be more flexible than just having the 1-waypoint order but also having the option to plan individual detailed moves. I'm not saying that this will solve all the micromanagement problems. But it will certainly help in many cases.

I'm not the kind of player that plays strictly from cameras 6-7-8 pushing all his troops forward with massive group movements etc. Even in large battles I like to spend most of my time on the isometric views and mostly at view 1. But I am forced to spend very little time down with my troops because most of the time I am busy creating multiple paths for moves that could be made with significantly fewer mouse clicks.

  3. I understand about the perfect zigzagging around the battlefield. But why not be able to draw at least 2-3 waypoints further than now allowed in a group move? What is the difference between giving 10 individual orders to move your platoon from a patch of woods to another patch of woods, through a wheatfield, and doing the same with 2 clicks? This would be extremely useful in big battles. When you have a huge number of units under your command it is simply not possible to be the battalion commander, the company commander and the platoon commander simultaneously and draw accurately movement for all units separately for the sake of realism. There must be some helping hand in such situations.

The ability to plan movements with the precision of a msecond and mmeter exists already in CM, which isn't that realistic anyway (but offers unique gameplay). As already mentioned, you can make group movements as accurate as you wish if you have the time. So making them more difficult for the user isn't quite a solution. I would too agree perhaps for a slightly increased time penalty for group movement through waypoints or a restriction in number of group waypoints.

Infantry has become really challenging to master with the new commands and supression model, requiring a huge ammount of baby sitting for proper coordinated moves. A simplified group movement option would be a significant help for faster gameplay . It will leave out more time for tactical thinking than for drawing

millions of waypoints for each private on the field when this isn't quite necessary.

Don't get me wrong, CMBB is the greatest of the greatest, a unique game in the history of wargaming. This is just my view for making a perfect game a bit more user friendly.

  4. One of the weak points of the CM series in my opinion is the lack of the ability to move a

group of forces through many waypoints. You

can only give a 1-waypoint order to a group

and not designate a route for a whole company with a few mouse clicks.

Ever found yourselves not moving some units in a TCP battle because it is too boring and time consuming to draw all these paths for each squad, mg team etc? The existance of such command would make life easier for the players and big battles far more playable than they are now.

Is it possible to include in CMAK this kind of command?

It will be also nice to be able to number your groups lets say 1,2,3..etc and recall them with a simple click without having to go to camera 1 trying to seperate your mortar team from a squad

next to it or a hmg from a nearby gun etc etc etc. Sometimes I lose minutes to click on the right unit and give the orders, ensuring that I didnt give by mistake a human wave order to my stationary hmg next to my rifle platoon

I've been playing quite a lot of time CMBO and CMBB and have reached a high degree of automatation in my ability to make moves fast and accurately but unfortunately big infantry battles (3000+) still remain almost unplayable for me due to the lack of simplified group commands.

  5. Hey Limey, I had deleted my mail adress cause I

wasn't using it anymore but I forgot to display

my new one. Please free to go ahead with the convertions. Originally, I had promised and I was planning to do them myself but I have the bad habit to lose interest easily when I do the same mod repeatively.

I'd be happy to receive some images of your convertions here : dim_martinos@yahoo.gr

As for restarting modding, I haven't actually ceased to experiment with my PsP and I have a few projects under construction but none of them is up to my expectations yet. That's why it's been a long time since I uploaded a mod. I'm constantly trying to raise my standards from mod

to mod and this can prove a tough and time consuming task.

  6. Makjager, I really love your work on the Luchs.

Simply amazing attention to detail. I have no doubt that this one is going to be excellent too.

But if you don't mind I have a small comment to make about the dark yellow color. Maybe it is

just my impression, but shouldn't be a little bit

more bright and faded perhaps? I know it isn't finished yet but I had the same feeling about the Luchs too. Somehow it looks a bit darker than it should be under the effect of daylight.

However it is still beautiful in its pure

    colors and delicate lighting smile.gif

  7. Thanks for bringing this up tooz.

As a greek, I think it will be really interesting and I'd love to play some CM mountain battles during the italian and later the german campaign. Really, why is only Crete

included and not the whole axis campaign in Greece? The terrain tiles would be much

similar with those for the mountainous Italian theatre and Crete.

As for weaponry, there isn't much to model here that is not already present in the allied armies simulated in CM series. Rifles, maxims, mortars, infantry guns and voila!... the Greek army.

I think BFC must seriously consider including the greek army in CMAK. It will be a letdown to leave out of the scope of CM an army that handed Axis its first major defeat.

P.S I'd be more than happy to help in recording some "Aeraaaaaaa!" wav files ;)

  8. I really miss the fun I had playing some ladder

games at Tournament House. Some opponents there

were really strong players (some others were really gamey though  )

and taught me most things I know about CM. Sadly

a problem with the chat room rendered the site

out of function since last summer.

Being mostly a TCP player I don't play many games

on the internet except these with my friends. I have played some games with opponents via the CMHQ chat too, but there's little fun playing with a perfect stranger who can quit the game

halfways with no warning. At least in a ladder

you can know your opponent and playing with

a chess ranking system can be really challenging.

BoB is a great ladder club but from what I have realised it is mainly for PBEM which isn't my favourite way to enjoy CMBB. So, is there any chance we can see some new CMBB ladder in the near future or am I waiting in vain for

something to ressurect my interest for online playing? :(

  9. Gautrek is right. Many times,I have started mods with enthusiasm only to quit halfway due to loss of interest. I always try to improve my work from mod to mod and every time I start a new mod I try my best to make it look better than the previous one.

When this doesn't happen, I have no real

desire to finish my work, because I feel I have nothing new to offer.

However, sometimes, an interesting photo of a camoed tank is enough to make me change my mind and easily overcome this syndrom ;)

  10. Nice photos Bardosy, thank you for sharing

    them with us.

Speedbump, very well said.History is an

invaluable part of every nation's character

and people should pay more respect towards

    nations route through the centuries.

It is sad that in the states(but not only),

some people seem to ignore history facts,

and judge things in a short-term and shallow-thinking way.

This is really dangerous, especially when you

are a citizen of a superpower, with such an active role over the world, that likes to refer to countries as "old europe", "evil ones" etc.

  11. Thanks for the responses.Well, he has tried a different provider but this didn't help.

The problem occurs almost in every game, regardless of battle type, size and it isnt just an occasional bug.The game freezes during the first turns, sometimes in the 1st one, sometimes in the 5th, always while in the data transfer phase. He has no problems when in single player

    mode.

For instance, in a qb I was playing with him,

with me being the server, while I was having the

message "completing upload" and started watching

the video, he had his progress bar stuck halfway of completion and the game freezed.Reloading the

autosave can walk for 1 or 2 turns till the

    problem occurs again.

  12. If you have a paint program with a "color replacer" tool, you can fix this problem with a few double-clicks.It is due to the fact that Saturnin is using in his mods the pink R:255 G:7 B:255 which in a PC works fine and looks transparent in game, while in a mac

(which from what i've read somewhere in the forum is more sensitive in the pink color

ranges in game) doesn't work correctly.

The default pink color for transparency in CMBB is R:255 G:0 B:255.If you replace all the pink areas with this color ,the problem will be solved.

    Hope this helps

  13. A friend of mine(who is not registered in this forum) is experiencing some annoying freezing problems when playing CMBB via TCP/IP.

The problem always occurs during the data transfer and leads to a game freeze, usually after a couple of game turns.

It appears that this is a problem of his PC handling the tcp/ip connection and not a problem of his connection (dial-up modem), as he has already tested his phone line with a different PC and no problems occured. He has already re-installed Windows(98) but to no avail. He has no problems with other games when playing online, including CMBO.

I've read a couple of posts about freezing problems during TCP/IP but they seem to refer

to a connection type bug, which looks like it isn't the problem in this case.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    PC specs:PentiumIII 733,256 ram,geforce2,Win98,

    56k modem.
