  1. I once lost a Jackson in a similar way. I had given the vehicle a bombardment target about 100m away when some 'schreck-toting infantry showed up in the rear. I plotted an escape route to good cover about 70m downrange but forgot to cancel the target order. The AI apparently decided that if 70m was a good distance, then 100m must be better and sure enough, the Jackson drove right up to the impact zone and killed itself. It even posted its self-immolation under the "Kills" tab on the info sheet.
  2. I use the Unit Bases On feature a lot, but the "+" and "-" keys just move the view angle up and down, one step at a time. I have the 1.12 version, purchased new about four months ago. Been meaning to ask this question. [ August 10, 2002, 10:51 AM: Message edited by: JTM ]
  3. I got Tactics II for my birthday the year the White Sox won the pennant--1959. The original Gettysburg followed soon after. My younger brother and I played almost every day and wore the finish off the counters. Later came Afrika Corps, D-Day, Blitzkrieg, Waterloo and the impossible 1914 (FOW simulated with inverted counters, etc.) All fondly remembered but no longer missed, now that I have CMBO. I seem to recall that the original Tactics was produced and sold by one of the AH company founders out of his home and in his spare time. Favorable reception led him to upgrade the game and go to commercial production. The idea was said to have come from the U.S. Army's "map exercises", but I don't know if this is true.
  4. I'm playing a 3000 pt. QB against the AI and have so far destroyed 6 SPW 251/9 half-tracks. There seem to be at least two or three more. No tanks above a couple of MkIVs so far, just the SP howitzers. This seems a little gamey to me, but I probably shouldn't complain. Most of the hits are being scored by my pair of Super Pershings at ranges of around 1000 meters. . .
