did you mean this one?Originally posted by Tim S:I found this on a Google search of the very odd looking Russian anti-tank rifle. The caption says it all. Unfortunately I can't show the photo but it's of a group of 4 soldiers prone, in the ankle(!)deep grass of the steppe, waiting for whatever may come their way! It's a photo right out of the CMBB Kursk scenario and the caption says it all....
Anti tank rifle teams wait for the German advance. A perfect illustration that no matter how bad your job is, someone had one worse....!
Apparently the PTRD-1941 anti tank rifle was about as good as a pea shooter against MK III's and up, although it had marginal success against I's and II's. This explains the lack of kills many have had using this weapon in the Demo.
saw someone already posted the pic...

Seriously, those guys do great work.

Set up an MG behind your frontline and area fire where you have cowardly troops. I'm sure that the "friendly fire" will cause a few casualties- thus getting rid of your cowards. Originally posted by Zitadelle:
quote:
Originally posted by pavlov:
I'm a little disappointed with the performance of the Red Army conscripts in Yelnia. I hereby request the programmers alter the full version to allow the Soviet player to place MG's behind advancing friendlies and mow them down if they dare to run away from battle (as seen in Enemy at the Gates ), for surely the Red Army can suffer no cowards!

maybe you should have dropped smoke in front of you to give some brief protection against the sherman and then dealt with the Bren and the PIAT?
Or you could have withdrawn to a better position using the smoke to hide from the most dangerous threat, the Sherman...

Well spoken, Dice and I agree totally.Originally posted by Diceman:Why I will not be playing CMBO once I get CMBB. A pictorial.
Normaly I play quick battles and don't have this problem very much, but in scenarios where force composition, placements, and reinforcements can be dictated by the designer such situations can be impossible to avoid.
The new covered arc comand in CMBB is a godsend, and it alone makes playing CMBB over CMBO a no-brainer for me.
P.S. Does anyone know a program to get GOOD quality screenshots? In spite of my best efforts, these are sub par.
For screen shots, I used Paint Shop Pro by Jasc, or something like that and they have a web publishing program which you can also download and use for free for a time...
I am sure there might be better ones out there. I am not professional screen shot taker or anything...

Are you saying there is life outside of CM?Originally posted by Commissar:If not, you can bet what a future mod will certainly address this. Should give people like Andrew even less time for a life
Is it true?

Atlas of World War II
by Richard Natkiel
ISBN: 0-7607-2043-6
Good book with big pages and nice maps, nearly all operational or strategic in scope.
Photos both color and B&W.
Has allot of text also, but I have not read much of it, usually just use the maps for reference..
But I am glad I own it...

Good players win games.Originally posted by legend42:Ive played alot of games of CMBO since it came out, I'd say about 250.Thats just against humans.Of those 250 about 90% are tcip?others were pbem.Im not claiming to be an elite player but my point is that a highly skilled TCIP guy will wipe up the battlefeild with an opponenet who just pbems it all the time.Im not knocking pbem games at all, there fun, but there is no pressure like a tcip game with a time limit, and which leads me to my other point that tcip games are by there very nature more realistic especially when you decrease the time limit.Tcip guys dont have the luxury of whipping out there protractor and compass to figure out there next move.So my final point is that tcipers are better players than pbemers. You take a guy like Swamp,Skelley, Ghost358 from T-house and there gonna crush guys like Fionn in a tcip game.
Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.
No matter how they are played!

I believe this one was mentioned last week or so.
But thanks for the info, anyways.
As we all know, it's the thought that counts, right guys?

Was reading 'World's Greatest Tanks" and on pgs 86 - 87.
On the specs table, it lists the Croc's flamethrower range at 40m. Isn't it 100m in CMBO?

yes, you can kill surrendered troops. Either by accident or on purpose. I have flamed captured troops just to taunt my brother when i am kicking his butt.
But usually, it is not a good idea, as POWs are worth more, points wise, alive than dead.

Yes, good movie and also a good sound track ... I still can remember many dialogs on that one
Also in the Westland but after that line, it sounded more or less like this:
(Reporter)- Any women and children ?
(Gunner)- Yes
(Rep.)- How can you do it ?
(Gun.)- Just don't aim it so forward ! (it, the heli-cannon)
(Rep.)- !
(Gun.)- Isn't war hell ? ahh, hahahaha
That movie is not a very “real” one, but it had a lot and I mean a lot of “good” lines…

here it goes:
Joker: "How can you shoot women and children"
gunner: "Easy, you just don't lead'em as much"

Should say straight away that I am not an expert on the subject.
This is wartime winter uniform of "real" naval infantry. As you can see, it's black.
On the other hand, there were pretty many naval infantry units actually formed from sailors. Those, iirc, had navy blue (i.e. very dark blue) uniforms.
This is from a rather recent time - the guy in the middle is naval infantry. Also black.
However, their modern field uniform is camo, just like anybody else. Like here.
In Stalingrad at least (probably elsewhere, I don't know) naval infantry was ordered to wear normal infantry uniform. The only naval thing they were allowed to keep was the striped shirt, called "telnyashka". You can see it on the second photo above.

I think the confusion comes from the dark blue overcoats the Soviet Naval Infantry was wearing during the Sevastopol campaign which I am reading in this book. The author says specifically, that the SNI were dressed in blue-black. He also later says that they had to insulate their bunkers with the "blue overcoats" stripped from dead Soviet "marines".
I would like to see pics of these guys, in the uniforms they would have been wearing at the time. The pics you posted did not show up.

does anyone know if CM;BB will fix the helmet problem we have in CMBO? Where each side can only have 1 winter helmet and 1 non-winter helmet?

I guess if they didn't, it couldprobably be done in a MOD. But I am reading the book "In Deadly Combat" and the author mentions the Soviet Naval Troops which he faced were armed better than the regular Red Army troops they had faced in Poland, and they were better trained.

Thats a good question. I think it would only manke sense for them to be added.
I think it would be great if all the uniform varionts from all sides were modeled in the game, but i don'nt think they will have the time to implement them all.
I would be happy if most were implemented, but i am happy enough about tank platoons, vehicle moral and higher resolution graphics.
As cool as it would be to have the Marines modeled, i do not beleive that the battle of Sevastapol is within the scope of the game.

But the game models the eastern front from 41 - 45, right? Sevastopol was fought in late '41 or '42.
