  1. Try thinking about it this way:

There's really no such thing as CMETO. It's just a sort of CMAK scenarios and mods.

So the real question you should be asking yourself is why you can't make a US airborne scenario for CMAK.

If you can answer that question, you can make one for CMETO.

  2. Go to cmmods.com, register and start downloading.

Most of the mods are there, and the salvaged and sorted scenarios from the old Scenario Depot are there as well (discussed several posts above in this thread).

The two other places you should visit for mods are Mark Gallear's site and the old CMHQ. You can Google the links or find them by poking through the Resources section of this site. Mark's site has some really useful material that may not be at cmmods, CMHQ is really good for re-acquainting yourself with how the modding got started in the first place.

  3. Der Kessel is history. Its successor ("I wish it were Der Kessel") is history too. But this should be the correct link to the successor's successor ("I still wish it were Der Kessel") which is alive and well:

FYI, the contents of the old Scenario Depot got more or less preserved at cmmods.com in a series of zip files called Scenario Depot Salvage. You can find them in each of the three game sections under designer name Birdgunner (CMBO and CMAK) and padivine (CMBB). There are also more updated versions of the CMAK and CMBB material called Sorted Scenarios (chronological for CMBB, geographical for CMAK) under designer name Philippe_in_exile. The sort hasn't been extended to CMBO yet. The scenarios that you're looking for will be in the CMAK material, but you'd have to know the updated scenario's geographical location to find it. So you're probably better off looking through Andreas' site.

  4. Just a suggestion, but the mechanized unit symbol would look better if it were a combination of the infantry symbol and the armored symbol, rather than just an armored symbol with two diagonal lines drawn through it.

In other words, most of the symbols you're using are based on the illusion of incised lines, so mixing in non-incised lines isn't as visually effective.

You could probably even do the super-imposing of symbols in Paint if you don't have Photoshop.

  5. Have you tried doing it manually? Some of those self-extractors can really go crazy with the new updates.

Try this: Shut down all your anti-virus software. Pop the disk in the cd drive. Watch it spin for a while. When you're sure it's stopped, click on start, then run program, then browse to setup (or whatever the appropriate program is). Run it, and then go into the next room and read a book.

  6. This is very curious. Every time I have sent an e-mail to support@battlefront.com I have gotten a response within 48 hours, and usually much, much faster.

What has always been endearing about Battlefront is how responsive they are. Try sending an e-mail to matt@battlefront as well as to support, and I am sure that he will straighten you out. Just be sure you give them all the relevant details that you didn't put in this post.

What on earth is B2B ?

  7. Apart from dust I think there were one or two tiny tweaks to the CMBB engine, but for all intents and purposes they're pretty much the same game.

I love them both for different reasons. If you pick up the Sorted Scenario collections at cmmods as well as David Inglett's Normandy and CMETO mods, you can pretty much reconstruct CMBO in the later game. Plus you get North African and Mediterranean landscapes to play in.

The desert is a very different environment from anything you will find in CMBB. You wouldn't want to make a permanent diet of it, but that's why they included Italy and Southern France. And it's amusing to play Americans, Brits, and the different Commonwealth armed forces and to compare their weapons, accents, and tactics.

  8. If there are, the way you would find them is to go to cmmods and download the sorted scenarios for cmbb. Then go into the section that covers the time period for Mars (the scenarios are sorted in three month time periods). I think there may actually be one or (at most) two in there.

And if you can't find a Mars scenario in there, then you probably won't find one. This is precisely the kind of question the chronological sort of the Sorted Scenarios was designed to deal with.

  9. I'm stunned that you could ever doubt that CMx2 was going to be released. In fact, it was released months ago, and a whole section of the forum is dedicated to it. [Why do I think I'm repeating myself?]

CMC is another kettle of fish altogether. Hence the need for traffic analysis.

  10. Try backing up your sound, scenario, and bmp folders (assuming you have modded them). Then delete the CMBO program, reinstall, and paste the modded folders back in.

This may not do anything, but if something got corrupted somewhere, it would probably fix it. CMBO is similar enough to CMBB and CMAK that it's weird to only lose CMBO.

There's a whole host of reasons why a program might stop working, and there are scads of people here better qualifed to comment. If the problem persists you might want to tell us what your system looks like, what changes you've made to it in the last month, etc..

  11. I had this problem when I installed cmbb on a new system a few months back. Don't know if it was the anti-virus, or the new system, or a combination, but I was just starting to panic when it finally worked.

My problems with the cm games were nothing to what happened with Total War. I'm not sure how I did it, but eventually I got my computer acclimatized to the software I was trying to install. And I think it took something like half an hour to get it to load.

I suspect that it had something to do with one of the Windows updates from last fall. I don't really know, but everything is working -- and the initial installations were real hair raisers.

  12. Believe it or not, there's actually a whole section of the forum dedicated to discussing CMx2. This is the part of the forum where you do traffic analysis on the CMC Beta Forum, and complain that Hunter hasn't given us an update on the Campaigns game recently.

  13. There are a couple of interesting posts about Vista in the CMC threads. One person seemed to suggest that the compatibility issue arose from particular combinations of Vista, certain models of cards, and certain drivers. Perhaps when everyone gets past the teething stage these issues will be worked out? But it's not much fun if you own one of the combinations that doesn't work.

  14. That only works once, and only for the individual who burns the cd. The whole idea is to have something that is permanently available to the community in an accessible public place. A cd that I burned four years ago and that is floating around in my cd drawer may not be available to anyone, including me (since I probably won't remember where I put it or what I named it). It doesn't do anyone else any good, especially if they're new players and don't know that there are more scenarios than come with the disk (and most don't). That's one of the reasons why the CM community is getting smaller and smaller.

  15. Could someone enlighten me as to what this thread is really about?

If you click on Downloads at the top left-hand portion of this page and bother to spend more than two seconds reading what pops up on the screen your first option for downloading patches is to download from the Battlefront server. I just tested it for both CMBB and CMAK patches, and both links work. You don't register anything with anybody. You just download. Punto final. Either I'm missing something really fundamental, someone else is missing something really fundamental, or someone is being intentionally malicious.

I'm assuming the alternate options are there as a courtesy in case there's such a rush of activity downloading from the Battlefront server that it becomes hard to use (e.g. the Night of the Refreshing Monkeys). But an option is only an option, you're not required to use it, and it isn't even the first option. The first option listed is to use the Battlefront server, which is unregistered, works very nicely, and is free.

Perhaps there's something going on here that you're not telling us about? Are you afraid to have direct contact with the company's server for some reason?
