In a recent battle against one of my PBEM buddies one of my heavy MG42´s killed a greyhound.
Peppered him from behind for maybe fourty seconds,range was sumthing around fifty meters, then the crew abandoned the greyhound, and was captured. One turn earlier the same grayhound killed bravely my last Stug.
I think it took cojones to take on a Stug with a lowly greyhound. And just one turn later the same brave crew abandoned a perfectly fine grayhound because a mg fired on it.
Strange ...

Sure,
just target the mines with a squad which still posesses a charge. They will handily blow the mines up. Works like a charm, just did it last turn ....

PBEM against my old time foes Strider,Rhudat,Big_Mik1,Ralf,Harold,Don,Andrew
one turn a day each, since late 2001. Always have between five and eight games running. I´m loosing more than I´m winning, but hey ...
PBEM´s only with handmade maps though. Those QB maps ( though sometimes nice ) cant beat a well done human made map.
Played some TCP/IP lately with those execellent packs from Boots&Tracks. Highly recommended.
Playing against the AI only to test something specific .

Been in the Bundeswehr 80/81 , stationed in Ploen as a pioneer in 3 Pi./6 ( now disbanded ). Was MG gunner on a MG3 and driver of an Iltis. Laid lots of mines and blowed dozens of things up.Left as an OG .
Arrrgh, thats twentyfive years ago. :eek:

Thanks gentlemen ( and Lady ), for the numerous, interesting replies. First, you´re right this is slightly OT but seeing the admin participate ...
This idea developed in a discussion with one of my dear PBEM enemies. ( Hi Strider, Don,Rhudat,BigMik1,Harold,Ralf ... )
So, if I can choose the tank to go back to WW2, I think I would take the Leopard in it´s newest revision. I´ve seen these things moving FAST at the maneuverground in Bergen back when I was in the army ( lowly pioneer ).
And yeah, only the tank was our thought, sumthing like a " Saving Private Ryan " throuigh time ... so no support for that tank. And it has to be back in 48 hours ...

Hi all,
suppose I have a timetravelling device, take a modern tank ( may it be an Abrams, Challenger 2, T-72, Leopard 2, whatever ), and go back to WW2 -
would I have to fear anything from the tanks of this timeframe ? Would a Kingtiger or IS2 or M36 Jackson be able to kill my tank ?

the easiest thing to do, to bring you up to speed, is to search for the FAQ in this fine board.
There are LOTS of hints and tactics in there. I think the FAQ is mainly for CMBO and CMBB, but most of it should apply to CMAK.
And welcome to this fine communtity ... 8)

a very good film from germany with real M4 Shermans in it is, " Die Brücke " or " The bridge ".
In very late war germany, some kids defend a bridge against the US army.
Lots of MG42, MP40 and even Panzerfaust action.
And with " Harry, hol schon mal den Wagen " Wepper.

Actually when I was in the german Bundeswehr, I did fire a close relative of the MG42 - the MG3.
