  1. I suspect that if you try this against a human opponent he soon will be wiping the floor with the remnants of the Allied armies. I am still trying to figure out how to wage a coherent, long-term Allied defense against a skilled Axis player. Anyone have a good Russian defense strategy that works?
  2. SC2? After being on tenterhooks for months while waiting for the original SC, it looks like now I'll have to go through the whole experience again. In time for Christmas maybe? Life is good.
  3. Yep, Diplomacy and then (a few years later) Hypereconomic Diplomacy. The last one went on for years -- and I only played Greece. There were lots of late nights at the typewriter.
  4. Yes, I tried "Onslaught" (bought it in fact from Battlefront). I found it an interesting twist on the old Avalon Hill "Blitzkrieg" game, but the AI was weak. "Onslaught's" combination of turn-based and real-time strategy was subsequently adapted for CMBO (some of the same people were involved). I think "Onslaught" was Mac-only.
  5. Afrika Korps and Tactics II, both around 1966, I think. A friend in junior high school had them. Those were the days.
  6. Actually the British and Soviets invaded Iran in August 1941, and used Iran's railways to ship US goods from the Persian Gulf to the USSR. Earlier, in May 1941, Britain had invaded Iraq following a pro-Axis nationalist seizure of power in Baghdad. The pro-British monarchy and politicians were restored. After the war, this same pro-British Establishment had serious legitimacy problems and finally were overthrown in a combined coup and revolution in 1958. The difference, I suppose, between an "n" and a "q."
  7. Those of us living outside the US (Canada, for instance) will have even more reason to buy SC if it is sold at a reasonable US $ price. The posts here come from all over the world -- kudos to Hubert and to Battlefront for making a wonderful game available to such a wide audience.
  8. Antony Beevor's two books on Stalingrad and Berlin are unforgettable. See <www.antonybeevor.com> for details.
  9. A recently posted message in another thread notes that the SC demo works under Linux. Is this good news for OS X users (he asked hopefully)?
  10. Me too. But are there enough of us?
  11. I don't know about "pressure" -- all that we Mac users can do is offer our wallets. So I'm ready... Projects like Strategic Command are a labor of love, but they also have to make money. What would be the cost of converting it to OS X, and then how many units would have to be sold for it to break even?
  12. As noted in an "Airborne Assault" thread, Mac users have been good supporters of Battlefront. Let's hope that we'll have a chance to demonstrate this support again with "Strategic Command" -- sooner or later!
  13. I've tried CM in 9.2.2 with GeForce3 and a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024. It looks great and works fine -- with none of the annoying freezes that used to occur at higher resolutions. Knock on wood....
  14. The highest resolution that I can get on my monitor is 1280 x 1024, so I've got to use 800 x 600 to play the game. (It looks great at 1280 x 1024, but then it seizes up and freezes whenever I try to move across the battlefield with arrow buttons, or try to use a Tab-1 camera setting on a moving vehicle.) Maybe someone, some day will discover a way to fix this (please?).
  15. Thanks to those who helped me to figure out the workaround to make CM run smoothly on a new G4 with a GeForce 3 card. I was beginning to worry that I'd upgraded myself out of CM Land altogether, which would have been no fun at all. Now all we need is the ability to get some color back in the sky. BTW, has anyone tried messing around with extensions (basic or extended settings) to see if CM can be run in higher resolutions than 800 x 600 without freezing when using GeForce? I too appreciate BTS's commitment to the Mac platform.
