  1. To my esteemed Section opponents:

I have been spending the last week putting out fires on the home front. Heavy bombing from the female half has leveled some of my time, cuz the comp got threatened with extiction, so I had to go to the "pay more attention to me" mode. I will have the situation under control by the weekend and promise to have my responsibilities taken care of toward you honored opponents.

    Cheers.

  2. I am wondering about the effect of the two man turret in most Russian tanks in CMBB. I would think that this type of tank would suffer from loss of target aquisition (ie while the commander was busy firing on panzer 1, panzer 2 would not be noticed so easily moving up) and possibly a slightly lower rate of fire due to the smaller size turret and lack of the dedicated gunner.

While everyone may have an opinion, if any one has "first hand" knowledge <wink> that would be "sweet"....

I might still have this game somewhere packed away like the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Sounds like 1776 at first blush. Although I think a few other games have tried that system, it is the first to come to mind.
  4. Brother, I do the good husband thing and looks what happens...I miss the sign up for a tourney in which the game isn't out for yet! I'll be durned....TB155, put me on the durned waiting list, although I am a bit put out that non-prior players have already been accepted,

We who have been through the wringer and come out clean should have some more consideration tongue.gif

I vote(I assume list waiters can still vote?)random. I also say, tag my handle to Wreck's. I owe him one for Ranville...slowly I turned, inch by inch, mile by mile, RANVILLE!!!!!!!! I am still seeing a psychologist about that one..... :(

  5. Well, I couldn't keep up with the AAR's so here are my thumbnails.

Ranville- was German, went with forward defense, Leonard charged all the way(seemed like it, at least), wiped out intial force, and each reinforcement wave died after that. My mortar spotter was so pinned and shaken by his fire that he only got of about 1 round the whole game.

High Cost of RE- was German, thought I was dead in the beginning, but immob'd the Croc and crew bailed. Reverse Slope defense chopped up the Can inf, but my reinforcing tanks and STug's were shot up, one by a 150m Piat shot for example.

Dompaire- was French, Killed the green PzV right off the bat and it went down hill the rest of the way. My Shermans died in the center sunken road, on the left flank, and my M10's on the high ground wouldn't stand and engage, they would smoke and retreat,as everyone else was being waxed. Planes did show, and shot up HT's and maybe one tank.

We Can't Wait- was American, Set up was bad, cuz I put all on the left flank, and reinforcements showed up, resulting in mammoth traffic jam. Got to town all right, but got shot up in the streets. At the end was lucky to hold one flag, as the 3! remaining afv's formed a laager to defend themselves vs the TD's. Plane came, saw and left without firing an apparent shot...

Sounds in the Night- was German, lost 2 platoons right off the bat trying to infiltrate bocage. Gave up on that attacked down the roads, right flank was quite successful, getting to the rear area before the American Reinforcement. Ambushed same, but the M10 got away(which held me up in the end). Ran out of infantry on the left to press on the rear VL.

Real Guts- was German, chopped up ami infantry, but couldn't hold VL's, lost Tiger to flank hit, Mk's IV's to long range fire.

Crisis at Komm- was American, ground through the town, replused the initial German attack, but couldn't press on with tanks vs Panthers. Got one platoon to Schmidt, taking VL, but rear VL was contested.

It was a grand tourney, and next time(hoffentlich)I will take notes as we go for these AAR's. Go Leonard, show them that Section 3 aren't as bad as our scores appear!

  6. Sorry that I was missed this weekend, as it was my first anniversary and I would like to see my second one(with this wife I might add).

We have reached the "crisis" part of the battle(I hope that this is the crisis, I would hate to see more). Turns will now exchange as rapidly as possible, as we cannot TCP due to circumstances at Andrej's end, and I cannot work on turns during the day(I am a vampire).

  7. What is the "deadline" for this round. As I recollect, it was the end of January when this got off the ground. Is this correct or am I suffering from a delusion. I have one game to start and the 3 in progress are 4/5th, 3/5th, and 1/2 done. Should have no trouble, as have contacted final opponent, Andrej(hope I spelled it right... smile.gif and he is ready to go.

    .Rant Mode ON

What will be done with MIA's? Seems a bit late to replace to me, but it could be possible. My question is, why would opponents not report this habitual tardiness on the part of their foe earlier than this? My gosh, 1 turn a month average over 3 months? Personally, that boggles my mind... I am NOT a fan of the IP type game, not cuz I can't handle the speed, just that it is difficult to tie oneself up for that period of time. But when I do sit down, I go. I remember several times playing Juha A. that we were both at computers 8 hours apart and would exchange 2-3 turns in a sitting, just churning them out. That is the way to go, not calculating the angle of incidence of the deflection of a PAK 38 vs a Jumbo Sherman at 440m with an angle on the bow of 44 deg. thru the scattered trees on a windy day...blah, blah, blah. 3 turns in 3 months. Yikes, withdraw then already. If Real Life is demanding that much, then there is no dishonor, but tell someone please.

    Rant Mode Off

If replacement can not be found or is not feasible compared to time, can the no show games be not counted? How will that affect the scoring curve, or would it? Oh well, best laid plans and all that, eh??

    P.S. Merry Christmas you targets....

(edited to add the P.S. as I forgot what time it was. Got to get back to the sleigh...eek, where does the time go?)

I have read that Rommel and most likely other German commanders used anti tank guns on the attack along with tanks. I have never been able to replicate this to my own satisfaction (success) in any game, miniatures, board game etc. Has anyone had any good reference as to how exactly it was done. Maybe in CM I need to try more guns and more tanks mixed together so the AT guns don't get singled out I am also guessing that this kind of attack where units are leap frogging is best done against a pure tank force. Otherwise small arms will tear up the AT guns and any tows they use.

I believe that the common technique used to deploy AT guns on the "attack" was to have the AT guns traveling near the front of the spearhead so that if the spearhead hit trouble, the AT guns could deploy as a screen for the lead element to retire behind and then operate against the enemies flanks. This is one of the areas where better German communication in the early war served them well.

Unless you are in the situation I was in. Troops shot at, they go to run foward into the woods, where there is barbed wire(not bad),and a cunningly disguised AP minefield(bad). After the 1st squad of the platoon was blown to bits, you'd think the other 2 would get the hint, but

no they run right in too to join their Kameraden in Valhalla...almost broke my hand that night...can't wait to do this to someone else...

I would think that the upcoming operation "Zitadelle" to eliminate the Kursk salient, would be one of the good reasons to mount additional protection for older tanks that were about to be tasked with penetrating a Russian defense zone that would probably have quite a few ATR's distributed among the infantry divisions the Russians had deployed there. Of course, they also had ATG's and armor;but the Germans in their optomistic way discounted the amount of resistance by about a factor of 3.
