  1. Hy Folks, As we wait for BB I guess some of us just want to tweak our system to the ultimate battle [sound] experience. I have to say, it sure DOES add impact. To these ends I am supplying two excellent www addresses. What I would really like is for some smart person with media/video/wav knowledge to get the " bite sized chunk" from these somewhat long *.wav files ( eg: machine guns, howitzers etc). Then either advise the forum, post them to a web site or send them back to me and I will post them . ( ohh yes indeed) If you want a viseral experience look below at: http://www.specialoperations.com/Multimedia/sounds.html http://www.homestead.com/FA_Sound/military.html
  2. done ) http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/
  3. the bang for the buck statement was against AP values not " moving through buildings". I only add this so the thread stays within the scope intended. thanks eric
  4. In battles why not make it such that board edges are immaterial?? That is, all VC ar in areas where board edges make little difference. In operations it is the game engine that is a fault not the design. eric
  5. Hy, I know this has been done to death.. but I just wanna put my 2 pence in ... engine 2: Pleazzzeeee fix the rediculous perimiter model. Please fix the operations so they kinda work. Having flags in op's might focus things ok. Moving through buildings might be considered important instead of around them. ) For the video hounds among us, continous video footage would be good. There has been a fixation with getting armour and the " bang for your buck" issue right. I think it is time to get the GAME component working. There has already been discussion on infantry under fire and thier propensity to want to get killed, PF teams that refuse to fire at an AFV 20 m away but glady expend all ammo at an infantry squad the same distance. I do not for a second think these issues are simple to solve, the programming effort is pretty amazing up till now, but I would be amazed if most of the talk for the next engine is not game related as opposed to " technical" related. May the force be with you BTS eric
  6. Hy, All you scenario designers write to The Scenario depot NOW and advise host to post your scenario's now...( particularly if you are already posted there). Once CM:BB comes out your scenarios wont be worth SH*T.. Also its an absolute pain clicking dead links.. Do yourself and all of us a favour... Thank you eric
  7. Hy, Have plays Myer's Decision 3, 3x times... Has anyone even come close to taking the town to the left, Grouchy I think. There are a large number of AFV that enter on the left flank. As you only have weak pathetic Pz IV's its a sorry sight. The designer also says do not shell the area to the right where his OB observors are. Is it permisable to shell it with AFV ?? Anyway, any clues as to how to even take the town, let alone assist in another atatck ( yea right), woulod be great. ta eric
  8. Hy, One of the major reasons I moved from ASL to CM was because the so called ASL Forum was nothing less than a vehicle for the "ASL Net Nazi's" to spout forth thier own opinion and to belittle everybody else. This at times got beyond a joke, the abuse of newbies for example was not uncommon. On becomeing a contributer and reader of the CM Forunm I could see little of this egotisitcal, and rank behaviour. I hope for everyone's sake this continues, believe me when I say: a) you are really going to hate it if it does'nt,( a lot more threads will be flame threads which are about as much fun as talking about holidays to New York atm); b)people will just_plain_give_up CM and c) a lot of people in ( might be great scenario designer and/ or mappers or mod's guys etc. I agree with BTS, keep the abusers well away from here.... If what makes you happy is "being right", at the expence of making someone wrong maybe you should follow the old adage " Engage brain before opening mouth" . eric
  9. Ha ha I have to say I'm pleased my humility has garnered such a responce . Even to the extent of a questionare- would this be a first ? I have decided to re- write the biographies of every Eastern Front soldier still alive, there are quite a number of factual errors in existing documents which really should be brought to the forums attention. Got Mit Uns eric
  10. Well although i think i rememebr who won WW 2 , I'm STILL sure I read 80 %$ of the books. Only 30 000 books. Yea read those last year.
  11. If that is the one with the King Tigers and you are advancing through fog, use AFV as "packets". That way you will anihalate the AT guns. If it is the one with bocage, use OBA to kill the AT guns.. If it is neither of these e mail me as I know I have played it but might not have rememebred the right ones. ta ta eric
  12. Well excuse me for thinking an operation could actually involve some foresight such as "Golly Gee Sargent, thats a obsticle over there, I wonder if we could get arty to remove it for us?" Needless to say, I disagree entirely with the fact that it is not within the scope of CM. Whether it is reality or not is not the isuue, it's whether and how CM decide to include it. I might also add my own bent here, which is also added by many operations designers, for G*d's sake, fix the perimiters issue. That alone would bo worth 50% of the game. Ta eric
  13. As to flail carriers etc etc most of the quierry is to do with " changing obsticles or terrain". I HOPE that CM engine 2 can add this as well. I am sure for example a 20 minute 150 mm stonk on a mine field would have dislodged a few mines. I am also pretty sure wire would have been vapourized as well. The idea that all these obsticles or enbuggerances just stay there is pretty incredible. PS: I am starting to like 210mm artillary, it makes a really big blast radius and I'm just hoping to see a AFV flip over.. Come on BTS - do it )))) Eric
  14. Hy, I would give you all more info if I could. Thats the point ) The Puchpen 88 thing which seems to be a HEAT infantry gun judging by its AP values. I just have never heard of this thing - which is pretty remarkable concidering I have read 80% of the WW2 books ever written. Does someone know the rarity value of this thing, who thought of it, was it useful etc etc... I want the historey of the puchpen 88 in 5 paragraphs - you know the idea- WAR in 2 volumes hee hee... I have also never figured out how the Germans won WW2 against KV-1's in 1941/42. It sure will be interesting to see how a Pz II kills a KV...
  15. Does anyone have any info on these things.. A web address would be great eric
  16. Hy all, I have read 100's of books on WW2 etc etc yet I have never come across that baby.. Seems like a precursor of an infanty TOW weapon. Does anyone have any info on this ansd a web address I can lookee see ?? eric
  17. http://history.vif2.ru/ A really excellent site...
  18. You would think someone might have told me, however, I will hearby reveal something that took me 3 months to work out. If you ( like me) like a particular map and just " wished " you could make a scenario from it of your own design well - you can. Just select the map from the load box and there is the map!!. Just delete the force composition and and add your own. Add a note that the map was made by the rightfull owner and everyone's happy. [You may of course be a mapper and love endlessly drawing elivations .. its not me...] I may be dumb but I'm sure as hell happy I found THAT out at last !!!!
  19. Hy, If there is a mod's guy that could do some sherman mods where you can ACTUALLY see the tank detail and not some brown smudge that would be MOST welcome. A pox on the sherman as it stands. If you could even tell, it might be a T-34... Difficult to say. eric
  20. I don't belive the question was aboiut 14 " guns ...... Did anyone bother to read the question? Yes, they are a wee bit hard, you can kill them by getting behind them and getting a view on the back door and blasting away for a while,, eventually it blows up. eric
  21. Hy, The Peter Principle for CG's 1) To get any AI CG to work you must make the map and add flags " this way" so the AI knows where to go. 2) Provide the AI with 30% more forces ( than deemed necessary) to get the job done. 3) Await in splended anticipation for the new engine if you want units to move between buildings w/out taking a stroll outside. All that being said check out: http://history.vif2.ru/index.html A truly brilliant site of actual soviet accounts of WW 2 by soldiers... your going to l o v e this one eric
