  4. Welcome to the club of pathetic CG AI in CM. On the operational level this game suxs... Many of us are waiting for the new game engine to fix it...... If it does'nt I guess we will have to find something else to do.... HINT HINT eric :cool:

  7. This was probaly in hilly terrain or a specific area that had a level 2 difference or greater adjacent. The other reasoin it might do this is because of a seen danger. eric
  8. Hy, I am not sure if you have downloaded even a 10th of that from The Scenario Depot... A month ago I just about threw my computer out the window in frustration due to that web site. MANY links were not downloadable and it is just "gaa gaa" land to think you will find 85 operations there. As for 700 battles.. Yea right.... eric
  9. Hy, Its about time somebody got thier sh*t together and gave clean maps the place they deserve - the TOP of the list. So, I hearby request, beg, cajole anyone for large size maps that have no units on them. I'm not sure how important people think good maps are but for me thay are No 1. You will see your work of art used many times and I will reference all maps to thier creators. If you want warm fuzzy feelings from the CM community and everlasting thanks PLEASE send me yout maps. These will eventually be posted on a web site for everyone to enjoy. I salute you !! Eric
  10. Hy, I am no sure who did it, but the Panther mod that has the soft browns ( might be the late model) is just SUPERB !!! Its a work of art I tell you.. As I keep saying to people who know me, if the software ( game engine) was as good as the mod's we are getting this would be the best game in existance. Thanks to all the ArTests )) eric
  11. Hy, After having played 3-4 CG's and developed 2 it is no joke.... HOW, for example can you develop an encirling type operation ? HOW do you have forces enter from different map edges? HOW CAN you focus attacks ( or defensive area's)on a campaign map ? I just want some acknowledgement from the designers that SOMEONE is paying attention to all this stuff..... If game engine 2 does not deliver in this area I belive there are going to be a LOT of dissatisfied CM fans about. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix it up .... :mad:
  12. Hy, I wanted a big catchy title for a big important request. ALL scenario designers ( esp: big map one's)please before adding forces to your map CAN YOU PLEASE send me a copy of your clean map? TO all past DESIGNERS, if you made a campaign game in the last 2 years it is highly lilely I will want to have a copy of your maps. Maps are the hardest thing to do, also good maps SHOULD be used more often. If you want everlasting fame and good fuzzy feelings from the CM community SEND to: talisman@firedream.net This will eventually be posted in about 3 months on a downloadable web page...   13. Hy, To the person who indicated that looking through a pair of binoculars in a truck or AFV was "hard/ unrealistic" I don't think so. Even as early as 1941 most panzer divisions did just that. About 5-10 % of vehicles were part of the " administrative fleet", Pz II were even modified for such work. As with mortar's today, you would have to be suicidal to be " on foot" , without doubt there should be observation VEHICLES for BB. Gawd, I hope BB or CM 3 gets the campaign stuff worked out, if not it is potentially going to ruin this game. ta ta eric
  14. Hy, After just wiping out a concerted attack of 3 Sherman 2's, 3-4 Serman III 's and 2 Firflies with 4 Pz IV I though I might just tell you how.. You you already know- don't read/// The game is near Cean with a British armoured assualt on a town. The area of engagement is in flat sparce woods terrain. The AI usually puts AFV close together so FIRST best not use a piecmeal approach. The second thing if you are outnumbered is to GET TO GROUND LEVEL and look for short term LOS lanes. Putting a AFV on a hilltop is inviting disaster. The third thing is to FLANK one approach. OK so these are the basics... The method is as follows: Those familiar with German strategy know that one of the things to defeat an enemy is to "hold him in palce" while you organize the attack. The second is to disorganise the enemy while attacking. I used oba ( 120mm HE) in front of his attack on the town, this stopped him in an area that he could only attack a small portion of my force. I then moved my AFV ( 4 Pz IV's) CAREFULLY down a scattered tree line ( at a distance of 300+ m), at first i used move but when I saw it was save went to move FAST. The next part was to cause confussion, my attack force was in its take off point. Here I used 150mm OBA SMOKE ( it lasts a long time and is more blinding) between my path to the AFV's. I have given up on OBA hitting anything these days anyway.... I also used 120mm HE IN the AFV group. As I waited for the OBA to start landing I finely tuned the attack getting the Pz IV's in close to line -abreat for maximum FP. The smoke landed - big beautiful white clouds- and the HE exploded all around. ATTACK TIME. I looked at all the smoke for ANY visibile path through the smoke to isolated ( visible) AFV. Having found two these were hit by two Pz IV's ( one got me in LOS but was hit first). The other Sherman;s were now a bit disturbed by all the OBA flying around and started to move in a disjointed fashion. KEEPING CLOSE watch at making sure I had more AFV facing him at any point than he did at me as well as his target facing ( whether he is aware of my moves) I proceeded in the next three moves to destroy all his AFV. By turn 10 of a 60 turn game I was on victory 61% and morale 70% or above. So, keep it tight keep it organised hold disrupt/ blind attack Took me a while to figure it out Eric
  15. 1) Please adjust so you can receive e mails directly. I have done similar things with op's. The perimiter thing with op's is still pathetic. I had the reverse problem. I pushed hard on 2 sides of a town and OBA'd the centre. Although at least 50% of the town was Allied controlled I ended up with most of it. In your case run something up the other edge and I would say you would get similar results. if anything needs a major rework in CM its campaign stuff. ta ta eric
  16. Hy, Its remarkable. I set up a city board and luanch a 100 mission 120mm mort on it AND: NOT 1 building was hit. Even in WW2 artillary WAS the God of war. In this game its the God of exactly nothing. In another a leader gets pounded by a MMG, a regualr squad ( say 100 fp) and a Horchkiss AFV with MA at 60 m. He continues to have a cup of tea and after being sprayed with prolly 300 rounds finally moves. [ In direct LOS of the AFV btw]. Can someone tell me how any of this has any correlation with real life events.. Ta eric :confused:
  17. AHHHHHH!!!!!! You would thing CM staff though map building was something that should be as time consuming as possible. If there IS a way to convert these formats it would help us designers no end..... Any ideas or methods apply HERE << >> thanks
  18. Hy CM'ers, Well I expect someone has been hit in the CM goolies this weekend - why are Pz IV's equivilent to Sherman fodder? Anyway, I was wondering: 1) If ASL scenario's are still being converted (in general). 2)If you WERE or ARE a ASL fan and are interested in resurecting this mission give me a e mail.   21. Hy, After 10 tries at CG design I have discovered that its not worth it. Too many common dog**** ( to use army parlance) things cannot be incoporated: The ability to place reinforcements at different point on the mapboard and have them enter at that time. The 3 options : attack, assault etc are so vacuous that i have not been able to discover any difference. Units are unable to ENTER the map as reinforcements but are instead ready for placement.. Duuhhh~~!!! The non availabilty of flags means that the computer AI in an operation may do stupid things. The non ability to have some form of fire disipline on units even so much as :_ fire only on a vehicle, fire only on infantry unless attacked by either. Painfull process to find that 81mm spotter anongst 100's of units, at least CC series had a log of units ( admitadly far fewer). The two first comments are the most important. Anyone who thinks' due to these restrictions, they are creating something realistic or that mirrors reality in some way need to visit a doctor... I've been there, I've done that Eric
  22. Hy, It looks like it is not possible to get CG style reinforcements to enter at various points on a map ( eg: a two pronged attack). Instead they are available for set up. I hope to hear some info to the contrary as scenario design just took a big step backwards... Thanks :cool:
  23. QUICK BUT IMPORTANT QUESTION: How do you get reinforcements to enter the maprather than be available for set up. Also, to be placed in "other " areas of the map such as a map edge. If three set up zones exist at the scenario start I would really like it if reinforcements set up in particular zones and not be available for placement anywhere on the bl**dy map.. !! Designers have to do a lot of fiddling to get games to work with "phases" happening at the right time. I have posted this question in a different guise in the scenario section but advice that scenario forum has has gone to sleep... Thanks Scenario designer in turmiol. :mad:

  25. Can someone please tell me how to get reinforcements to come on from a friendly board edge rather than "ready to place". I'm sure there must be a way. This is for Op's not battles. ta eric
