  1. Shunting a bogged in vehicle with another vehicle is not something I would consider trying. Would the shunting vehicle be at a risk of bogging due to the close proximity of the boggy terrain that the bogged in vehicle is in? (all this talk of bogs reminds me that I need the toilet!)
  2. Quite correct...anyone seen the footage during WWI when an artillery shell decimated a cavalry unit?
  3. When undergoing training do you start with basics or do you get thrown straight into the deep end? Parade and drill has a part to play in army life as a form of a steping stone to various skills that require to be learnt. For example the most important thing about being in the field is personal hygiene, i.e ensuring that you do not make yourself a casualty. Caring for ones own appearance and uniform when on parade is a gives the natural progression into ensuring that field kit is kept clean and usable. I do agree that successfully completed rigorous excercises can give more satisfaction but new raw recruits need to be set easy to follow tasks that progress them without overwhelming them. As previously posted about appearance, the onlooker will want to see a professional well trained body of soldiers and what a better way to demostrate this than perfect drill procedure!
  4. Maybe because I am British and thus possibly considered old fashioned but parade is important. When on parade do you look your best? Yes of course, this gives pride in yourself, your colleagues and most importantly your unit. Does parade help with discipline? Yes you have to obey commands and act as a cohesive unit, to learn your own job and to rely that your pals are all doing their own. No doubt the modern countries will now answer in droves stating it has no modern use..but consider this, what class does your average grunt come from? Discipline and following order has to start some where. I personally enjoyed being on parade, I felt proud and my family were very proud of me...my gradfather was close to tears as it reminded him of his own service days. What a better way to show the public what the new recruit can now do. Parade is Good...so there!
  5. Thank you... Warfare has now become so much clearer. I always thought it was about occupying strategically important locations. I guess thats what Churchill meant in his famous "we shall fight them on the beaches" speech...as long as we kept retreating with our valuable flags we would never be beaten. curse those tommies they are so fast with their flags call off the invasion now
  6. yes...maybe we could find some important files to put away! Now lets have a cup of tea before we act hastily!
  7. There are plenty of cries for historical accuracy...is it accurate that all troops turned up in APC's? No in dire situations troops would be dragged in from anywhere hence unamoured vehicles being modelled. As previosly stated is this not something that a future patch could rectify?
  8. The points above are good. Personally I always move slowly...sometimes too slowly. I get paranoid about houses, hills, woods, anything that can hide the enemy and give them an advantage. I do get guilty feelings when a platoon or other gets a good paggering due to my negligence. Guess I would never make a captain!
  9. Regading the above, have we not touched on something that a future patch could cover. It is all in order leaving unarmoured vehicles away from the fighting areas but surely the fighting units should be more pro-active in the actions.
  10. Yes, what a good post. Being very new to CMBO I am currently on a learning curve against the AI, however several points have given me new things to try out. Being a Brit I always tend to play with the Brit forces and the use of the Wasps will give me new things to try.
  11. I'm obliged, many thanks for your help so far. I run CMBO on a reolution of 800 X 600 which is the first option when installed. I have just installed the last voodoo drivers being v1.07...i think!
  12. The battle movie plays for approximatley 5 seconds and then I get a screen full of purple and white lines and the computer locks up, CTRL ALT & DEL don't work I have to reset the computer myself. I have not updated anything on the system since I got CMBO. It was originally running without error but for some reason now misbehaves.
  13. Further to my previous post. This hero pilot! Started to strafe the so called German lines that my infantry had just occupied taking out my AT teams. Now I am well on the run with a Tiger snapping at my heals. Don't think I'll bother with CAS anymore.
  14. I have not installed anything else after CMBO, my graphics card is a VOODOO 3. I have downloaded lots of graphics mods, my system is a PC. I thought about the mods and uninstalled CMBO and reinstalled it but to no avail. The game runs fine on village games including HUGE maps.
