  1. For anyone who is here, there is an AWESOME documentary about the Tiger tank on History Channel right now. Elguapo
  2. Hi advertisment for a rival product! Hi Mom!
  3. Send ElGuapo a setup file for a game: elguaposucks@yahoo.com ElGuapo CRUSH you.
  4. I've been playing with my crappy internal sound card and teeny speakers. I'm currently looking to upgrade and was wondering if arty has a nice base I am missing, or the new sound packs have nice, clear sounds to hear. The basic question is: If I get really nice speakers / sound card, will CM take advantage of this? Guap
  5. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. If you are looking for value for your money, look no further. I used to be all up on the latest and greatest computer games, and bought one every 2 weeks or so. You name it, I bought it. I visited game mag sites all the time and was always thinking of upgrading to take advantage of the latest and greatest games, especially FPS (not to neglect my beloved strategy games). I even ordered older games like Star Control 2 and Master of Orion 2 off Ebay to play them again. Since getting CM:BO several months ago, I've not bought a single game. Ok, I broke down a bought a PS2 finally, but that doesn't count. Even my beloved Counterstrike went by the wayside (the scene was getting ugly anyway). CM is the only game for me, and will be until CM:BB comes out. It's that good, seriously. Take this from a guy who was in the old school, playing games like "Dune II", "X-COM", "Bard's Tale", "Steel Panthers", and even "Wing Commander" until his eyes bled. CM is in my top 3 list of best games of all time. It's worth the wait, bro. ElGuapo
  6. Can planes be killed in games? I've never seen that. I haven't used or seen them used much, so I don't know. I'd be curious to see what that looks like. ElGuapo
  7. The way I read that (especially the latter part), the hit calculation is done first. So in this way, a single round from a single shell could NOT take out two tanks. That is, if I read it correctly. There was a lot to read there. ---------------- On another note, it was interesting to see how much Big Time Software used to comment on the boards. Sometimes they were responding to every comment! Obviously they have other priorities now in getting CMBB out, but I wonder if they will hang out here and post more after its release. I'd love to come to a release party.
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by CombinedArms: El Guapo, here are three things to check: 1) Was the 2nd PzIV "knocked out" or "abandoned". It seems to me a bit more likely that a nearby explosion like that might cause a crew to bail out of a tank than to actually kill it. What was the experience level of the crew? A green or conscript crew might be particularly ready to abandon under such circumstances? 2) Does your Allied tank list one PzIV kill or two? If it lists two, then it's possible your single round killed both. If it lists only one kill, then it may be that secondary explosion effect. 3) When the game is finished, check the kill info on the first PzIV. If it lists a PzIV as a kill, then it certainly was the explosion of the 1st PzIV that killed the 2nd PzIV. Anyway, it's an intriguing situation.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> 1) Nope. Both of them were knocked out, neither exploded. If you look at the screenshot there is a pic of a tank burning, but that happened a few turns beforehand. 2) and 3) I'd like to say that it listed two kills on the info of the Allied TD, but I honestly don't remember. I don't remember, but it seems unlikely that the first tank "took out" the second one via explosion or shrapel, as it did not explode and I have never seen shrapnel modeled. I would be interested in BTS solving this once and for all by simply saying whether the ability to take out two tanks with oen shot is modeled, i.e. do shells calculation stop when a hit is recorded, or can shells which hit tanks go past and kill other things. I've never seen anything behind armor I've shot explode, so I doubt it is modelled. It might have been some wierd bug.
  9. I wanna go home and play CM. Work sucks today. Curse the need for money.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by wwb_99: Have a good time gentlemen (a term used very loosely). Unfortunately I cannot attends, but hoist several for me. Tell el Guapo I own him. WWB<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I own j00 d00d. U l33t haxor. *ahem, sorry about that* I've not seen the last turn yet, so I don't know. We'll see. Your Stuarts are about to get owned, though.
  11. Flame vehicle tactics that have worked for me: First, I agree they are a mid game weapon. You do not want to scout with WASPs or FT halftracks. They are also best used in villages/towns. They are best used under cover, not rushing through the open where they can be nailed by an AFV. That being said, I think they are very, very effective against inf. The usual tactic I use is to get an arty/flame/inf combo going. It works like this: 1. Arty targets around a potential building that has lots of troops in it. Behind it is best, but it can be right on top of it too since the rounds will fall all aroudn the building. 2. Around 2-3 minutes out from the arty barrage, a squad or two of inf (or a MG), starts shooting at the occupants to suppress them. An AFV also work well, but your AFVs shoudl be doing their own thing and protecting your flanks. 3. Around 1:30 to 1:00 away from the arty, the FT vehicle moves up from position and starts to flame the building. It may take more than one round to do this so for heavy buildings give the arty extra time. As soon as the building goes up, withdraw the FT. If you did this right, it should not be taken out by MG fire or AT from troops, as the enemy is slightly suppressed. 4. When a building catches on fire, the troops inside jump out. About this time, if you timed it right, the arty nwo starts flying into your opponet's platoons in open ground, causing huge casualites. 5. If you decide they have been pounded enough or want to save your arty for later, cancel or move the arty request and use the FT to mop up any troops left over. 6. Repeat for any buildings giving you problems. I have used this combo several times with devastating results.
  12. We all know that tungsten is kick ass. We knwo that it shows up for the allies later in the war. But, has anyone figured out the exact details of tungsten issuance during a QB? For instance, what decides who gets tungsten and how much? What month is best for getting it, and what country? I've noticed that TDs get it more often than regular tanks. Has anyone done a study on this or can talk intelligently about it? Just curious.
  13. I would send you the file, but it was a game vs. the AI. I PROMISE this was the only way these two could have been taken out though. Since I was the Allies, I could see everything shooting at these tanks, and I carefully looked to see if it was something else that killed them. The timing was just perfect that the shell hit the first tank and went through to hit the other. So either it was something that really is modeled in the CM ballistics engine, or it was a one time bug that I cannto replicate. Either way, I was happy to get the kill. Didn't think to look and see if it was a tungsten round, but if I recall correctly I did have some of those.
  14. The url is: http://brickfilms.topcities.com/199mkill.jpg Or, with UBB code: New record I would shwo the pic of it getting knocked out, but you will just have to trust me. Ask Skookin on the BoB boards, it was his Hummel. (Same PIAT took out a Hummel from 150 m the round before)
  15. Hmmm. I don't get pictures/images here. It worked when I forst linked to it, now it doesn't.
  16. Got a great PIAT kill last night. Veteran crew. I think the max range on the PIAT is 200m. Guess how long the shot was? That's right . . . 199m. Pic below. Woo-hoo! I think the PIAt is my new favorite anti tank weapon.
  17. Well, if you think about this in terms of the timeframe of the game, it makes sense. Each turn is 60 seconds, right? So what you want to do is to start a barrage at say, a crossroads, stop it for say 2 minutes, or even 60 seconds, then resume the barrage at the same location? All of this on the fly, given the tactical chaos of a meeting engagement or on an attack. I doubt this could be done even with modern communications and superior command and control in a modern day battlefield with such pinpoint accuracy. I think the way it is done now, by "walking the target" a bit, is probably the most realistic. You can radio a "shift fire a bit" command quickly, but to have all barrages start/stop/resume on the head of a pin on the fly without having that plan set up from the start is a bit UN-realistic. That's all IMHO. If there is historical / modern evidence refuse this, I'd be curious.
  18. French uniforms mods? I've never played the French. Do they auto-surrender on turn 2? Or do they just start out with their hands up, kneeling down, in the "surrender/capture" mode? I would think the backs of the uniforms would have to be more detailed than the front. You could add special detail to the crease in their pants when they are kneeling down, and the underside of the armpit as they thrust their hands up. Maybe all of their reinforcements arrive on turn 30 on the far corner of the map right before the battle ends. That way most of your troops will not have fired a shot but you auto-surrender anyway. 19. Unfortunatly it looks like it blocked my pic of this, as proof. I'll post it again as a html link http://brickfilms.topcities.com/two4one.jpg or Pic of two German tanks being knocked out [ 10-06-2001: Message edited by: ElGuapo ]
  20. I am playing game right now (A scenario set near Bastogne) - and in the last seconds of a round, my Hellcat fired at a Pz IV. In the time it took the round to reach the target, another Pz IV cept up behind the first one. A second later, the round penetrates the first tank from the side turret and knocks out the second from the front. Wow! Is this a common occurrance? ElGuapo
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Joe Shaw: Actually it probably WAS CM related ... his Mom probably said he couldn't play CM 'till he got his algebra homework done. Joe<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> *grin* Point taken, but he's not playing me, so I don't care.
  22. Show your work? I'll bet you a copy of CB:BB that this has nothing to do with CM. This is homework of some type and he just suckered you all into doing it for him. The way that you arrived at it would not matter at all if he was just trying to plug it into some equation. Gimme a break, man. Do your own damn homework. Guap, shaking his head
  23. Scenario: I am playing a turn movie. The camera is on top of a hill. A few tanks fire in front of me, zooming by on the left. No problem. Now, I play the same movie again, but this time I move the camera all around. I use the CTRL button to jump all over the place rapidly. I pan, move toward incoming fire, moving perpendicular to other fire. A bunch of arty rounds whistle in. Machien gun fitre comes in from a dozen different angles at a dozen different velocities, changing constantly as I move the camera around like a madman. Everything is being calculated in complex calculus, floating points, tangets, vectors, and multiple hundreds of angles and variables by the computer. The sound programmer at Big Time lies on the floor in a cube, his brain fused together in a wad of neural matter that smells faintly of an electrical fire. My CPU melts down and my Tiger tank appears to be doing a dance the old Paula Abdul song "I take, two steps forward I take two steps back". Great idea, but I don't see it getting implemented. The way it works right now is very nice, with sound fading the further away you get from it.
