  1. I thought of it earlier today but my great job beat thoughts of history out of my wittle ole head. Salute to the Russian army and the people of Russia...they suffered tremendously. But I also salute the Spanish Blue Division....by the way I have some perfect scenarios for CM2 concerning the Spanish Blue at Krasni Bor.
  2. The Duke of Wellington, though I was not particularly pleased with some of the choices given. There are ways to plan an assault in the midst of your troops. Let them see you, and give them direct commands in preparation for the battle. Hard to explain...read the Druss novels by David Gemmell...now thats a warrior and a leader.
  3. Almost done tweaking the Scotland Forever scenario...and damn is it a bloodbath. I think I have the morale set right, for just as in the actual battle, I have seen the Scots surrender only to be liberated by another platoon and take the Germans prisoner. For those who do not know, it is based on the 1st Scots Guards at Campoleone in February of 1944. Since that scenario needs a few tweeks here and there...I have started another scenario called Drop Zone Leros. Damn are those rocky hills high!!! The German Fallschirmjager Battalion is alone except for an occasional dive bomber. The Irish are spread out but do have arty support. All rough terrain, high hills, walls and farmers huts spread out everywhere. In a day or two, the Scotland Forever scenario should be done. Later.
  4. Thanks, appreciate that. I have anywhere from 3-5 days of testing still...a conservative estimation. In playtesting, it is quite eerie to get down to ground level and wait for the Germans to attack. No vehicles...but they(the Germans)do have infantry guns and antitank guns...of course due to mud and lack of roads for an attack, the Germans must pull those guns in by hand. Across open, fog enshrouded ground. xxxxxxxxxxxx of xxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxx of xxxxxxxxx. For the Scots, they have x xxxxxxxxx of xxxxxxxx, and Regimental support in the form of 1 xxxxxxxxxx and 6 xxxxxxxxxx. And each side has xxxxxxxxxxx of artillery support at their disposal...the Scots have limited ammo on their of board support, while the Germans ammo is xxxxxxxxxxxxx the Scots. There are also 3 Brens for the Scots...which I tend to use for my xxxxxxxx, get them around to endangered areas quickly. I speak too much, I must edit this...Later.
  5. Until you learn the game and its tactics, I would tell you to follow the advice of Napoleon. Drive straight for your objective, no fancy sweeps or envelopments. And learn organization. Keep your platoons in formation and within command range of the platoon leader. When you advance, use another platoon and also MG's to cover you. Leapfrog tactics...one advances and one covers. Always keep a reserve, no matter how depleted of units you stand. Company and Battalion commanders? Use them to strengthen the attack or defense(their special skills). But most importantly...after a turn watch it again from other angles. Even more importantly...have fun watching the battle unfold. Later.
  6. I am hard at work right now on a scenario based upon the bloodiest actions fought by the allies in WWII. Campoleone Salient. The first scenario takes a look at the fighting of the 1st Scots Guards on February 3rd, 1944. The Germans vastly outnumber the Scots, while the Scots have a wide front to protect. What is in the favor of the Scots? Muddy ground, fog, dug in positions, and it is 2300 hours...night. Oh...and the terrain is wide open except for gullies and drainage ditches. A couple of hillocks are also strewn around. Actual terrain and height. I still have some tinkering with troops on both sides. And have currently increased scenarion length to 45 turns...up from 30. After troop tinkering, I may have to increase time limit to 60 turns. It is a huge battlefield. Objectives I am happy with at the moment(2 major flags and 4 minor flags)but could likewise be tinkered with to ensure proper axis AI movements. What is a good website to send this scenario to? I have no website of my own so do I just zip and email it to the web site? Later.
  7. Simple question really...I want to load CM a second time onto my system so I can convert it to the Desert scenarios...how? Same way I loaded it the first time? Try not to call me names when you give me the answer...I stayed up way too late last night and partook of a little too much...well never mind that. Later.
  8. Anybody know of any mods that replace a ruined building with a building of broken walls and no roof instead of just a flat space? I think that would be cool...if I knew how to make mods I would do it myself. How hard is it to learn to make mods? Thank ye and carry on.
  9. I would be very interested in playing those scenarios on CM. If you need any playtesters let me know. I do play ASL, or rather did. I now play SL with my brother...getting him into the hobby. Still love ASL though I do understand what you are saying. Later.
  10. I haven't played that scenario, but have run in to similar circumstances. I tend to put arty on the enemies heavy guns. If they do not have any that I know about, I will drop the arty on the strongest defensive position of the enemy. A platoon of riflemen will lay down covering fire on other points in the German line while another platoon will run at the enemy as if fire is on their tails. If possible another platoon in reserve to flow through a weak point. If you have mortars, either smoke the flanks of your attack(ensuring not to block LOS of your units providing cover fire) or pound enemy positions you are charging toward. Remember timing...do not jump off the attack before the arty and mortars and covering fire starts. Use the pause. Of course I can only imagine what the terrain to your front looks like. Plan on using the enemy positions as your positions. If your charging platoon is successful, be prepared to move that reserve platoon in a big way. Red 6 out.
  11. Hurry and get the game so you can get addicted like the rest of us. I am currently working on scenario ideas and testing them. Hope to have them for everyone else to try out soon. Later.
  12. I know this probably is not the place for this, but I have been away playing hot and heavy with the operation dealing with the battle of Noville. Those 6 scenarios rock. I just hated having to re-move into Noville every game. While I was away it seems I have been beaten upon because of several things. This surprises and disturbs me. To suggest that my sig glorifies war and that glorification in any way, shape or form shows a lack of respect for those who suffered such a calamity(not tragedy)is preposterous. If that were true then the playing of these games(and enjoying them)would make us all glorifiers. Any way, shape or form.Do any of you see death in war as beautiful and fitting for ones country? It certainly is not seen that way to me, but is seen, by me, as the honorable thing to do when your country takes a stand against tyranny and oppression. I would be ashamed if I didn't answer the call of my Country back in 1991 when asked to VOLUNTEER for active duty. I had already served from 1985 thru 1988 with the 2nd and 4th Armored Divisions. But I digress. So called "nationalism" is not the culprit of wars on this planet. Wars start because there are evil people in this world. That will never change no matter how much we attempt to do so. It is the folly of humankind.Who was the man that sent Gavrilo Princip on his mission of assassination upon Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria? Who was Gavrilo? Who was Adolf Hitler? Saddam Hussein? But you have the right to believe as you will...many Americans died to insure you have that right. George Washington gazing upon his troops in despair at Valley Forge..walks into the forest and kneels in prayer to God for wisdom. Thats nationalism to me. Abraham Lincoln walks with a heavy heart upon the battered and bloody fields of Gettysburg to stand before his fellow Americans who gave so much those 3 days and delivered unto them the Gettysburg address. Thats nationalism to me. When a back woods country boy goes off to war and refuses to fight because of his religious views, ends up winning our countrys highest award for saving the lives of many of his countrymen. Single-handedly. Thats nationalism to me. And the list goes on...Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Saudi Arabia and so on. I owe it to those valiant men and women of this great country who gave their lives for our home and land and its myriad peoples. I owe them to remember the evils of the past to better deal with the evils of the future. Therefore I do not apologize for anything. Sig or otherwise. Please understand I am not angry...only disappointed. This isn't directed at all people here. I have thus far been very happy with all conversations so far. And the game is amazing. Later.
  13. 1. I think a 3rd level for a church steeple would be realistic. Many times a retreating force would destroy church steeples to deny their use to the enemy as a FO site. The battle for Noville is a prime example...when the paratroops pulled out of Noville, they blew the steeple of that church. Abstractions aside, a 3rd level would give observers a greater range of sight and thus reach. 2. Why not be able to purchase snipers? In many battle stories told by the men who fought there, snipers tended to pop up in the heat of battle. Sure, there were those who carried sniper rifles because that was their job, but they were not available for the beck and call of local commanders. Mostly they were expert marksmen who saw an opportunity to take a position and snipe at enemy leaders. Such as myself. I was an expert marksmen in the US Army but I was not sought after for special operations. I was given an M16 and told to kill the closest enemy targets first. 3. I am sorry that you do not like my sig but I do. I have a profound respect for the 101st and 82nd Airborne divisions. I do see you are from Germany or reside there. So I guess I can understand being that I am speaking of Germans. But let me say up front that I hold no ill will toward Germans...my wife is German. She is from the town of Herzogenaurach, close to Erlangen by Nurnberg. She had a relative that fought in Russia in WWII. He told me he was motorized infantry and rode in an armoured halftrack. And with great pride he told me the letter G was on that vehicle...for Guderian. I had tremendous respect for him and we would talk of those terrible days often. Sadly, he has passed away but I will remember him for the rest of my life. Last but not least, I hope you do not take me the wrong way...I value friends above all else...take care.
  14. Now that I have CM, I have been playing almost non-stop since Saturday afternoon. Here are a couple of things I would like to see utilised in future CM products. The first is the ability for FO's to get up in a church steeple...a 3rd level per se. I would also like to see snipers come into play...not as a represented troop but more as a percentage chance per turn or battle. Once one turns up, you have to designate his position in the orders phase, but you cannot direct his fire and yes, he can be targeted and killed if the enemy spots him. I am uncomfortable with the idea of being able to purchase a sniper in Quick Battles...better left up to chance such as in Advanced Squad Leader. And now a question...How can I get my troops to dig foxholes? If the ground is not frozen, troops can dig a foxhole relatively quickly. Slit trenches would be cool, but would have to be there at the beginning of the game. Or? You tell me. One last thing...I found an awesome picture on the net from WWII. A Sherman Firefly idling at the edge of a pasture where 2 Germans are running to the right of the tank and they are on fire. One of the crewman of the tank has the 50 cal. pointed at them but is not firing. Sobering picture. Later...and NEVER FORGET our fellow Americans that died in combat in all wars!
  15. That's right, I just got the game in the mail today! I am a happy mofo! I will be busy the rest of the day but will check back here occasionally to see if any new posts are here. Didn't get it Friday like I was hoping, so I just sat around and played Panzergrenadier by Avalanche Press with my brother. Good scenario ideas in that game if there were Russians in this game. Sees ya!
  16. Valley of Trouble...I pulled out my troops from the right and tried a futile attemp at the town up the center, but without that infantry support...so I withdrew to fight another day. I am currently fighting the scenario again. This time I have 2 platoons advancing with tank support up the center but slightly to the left, utilising the folds in the ground to protect my tanks as I smoke the hell out of the German forward positions. One platoon advances to the right of the road while one more remains in reserve behind the main attack. Mortar and MG up on the hill with spotters. So far I have given the Germans a pounding with arty and I haven't lost any tanks yet...but it is only the 5th turn. I keep running to the front of my house to gaze out the window to see if my copy of CM is here yet...dammit!!! I grow impatient waiting for it. I guess I could play some old Squad Leader until it shows up. Take care all you troopers out there.
  17. Just wanted to mention a damn good book on platoon and company warfare in WWII by the Screaming Eagles! Pretty good description of Battalion warfare also. The name of the book is Seven Roads To Hell by Donald R. Burgett, by Dell. Pretty good mission ideas in this book. It is about the 101st Screaming Eagles at Bastogne. They called themselves The Battered Bastards of Bastogne! I should be getting my copy of CM today. Took off of work to wait for it. I ain't gettin' outta this seat till Sunday night!!!
  18. I am in the process of playing the 2nd scenario of the demo while waiting for THE GAME to get here. I have 2 platoons attempting to flank the town from our right flank. 1st platoon protects the left flank of the local advance while the 2nd platoon runs over the rise and into the trees just on the other side...then BOOM, we start taking fire from a German gun in the distance sheltered by trees. They are nailing us. I finally manage to get the 60mm mortar into position and start pounding that damn gun. Our advance has bogged down. ****, a pill-box. 105mm arty on that bad boy. The mortar manages to silence the gun and the 2nd platoon jumps the wall and runs for the nearby tree line. Just as I start to get into position to take out the damn pillbox, the German gun opens up again...we didn't kill the crew, only drove them to ground. Lost my 105mm spotter, lost my mortar. Saved the game just before sending in 1st platoon...have to think about that. The tanks and the 3rd and 5th platoons are about to launch a direct attack on the town with smoke screening our left and front line. Things are falling apart.......... This game rocks!!! When that German Gun(I still do not know what caliber it is...too far)opened up on us again, my eyes got big while I watched my troops get hit. Excellent game. Cheers to the makers of this surprising game!
