  1. I ageewiththe commentonthe koreaVets gettinga bad deal, over here in the Uk it is being refered to as "The forgotten War" which reallynsums itup. In British terms it is over shadowed by WW2 and I think Vietnam seems to have overtaken it in US eyes, although that's perhaps not a comment I should make from this side of the Atlantic. At the end of the day they should be judged on the task they faced and the price they paid rather than what came before or after and on that score I for one think they deserve better than they've got. Peter.
  2. I am using CM on an iMac with system 8.01, and it seems to be running progressively slower and then crashing. Games that when I got it in January were fine now seem to crawl along. I disabled the title movie but it doesn't seem to have helped much. Any one got any answers or suggestions. Peter.
  3. Given that CM2 will add not only soviet equipement but lend lease, much of the inventory for a korea version will be in place. In addition the feedback on the terrain and climate additions for CM2 would seem to suggest that much of the unique nature of the Korean pennisula could also be done off the shelf. Is this something that peoplewould be interested in???? Peter.
  4. You may well b right about the demand, however with the US moving towards £"Objective Force" a game built around the lighter high mobility BCT concept(Brigade Combat Team's),might be more topical and therefore more marketable. Alternatively given that the basic engine is already there and that there is a healthy and inovative community around CM, it could well start life as an add on Patch, or home made scenario. I am sure a lot of the things taht have been produced by fans will amke their way into CM2. Peter.
  5. Has anyone ever looked at or suggested a modern day version of CM? At first I thought that like many updates of board games, ( going back more than 25 years to SPI's "Panzer 44" becoming "Mechwar 77") modern weapons would overwhelm the game system, 14" artillery and Me109's are bad enough without MLRS salvos, and A-10's. However with the growth in small scale "bushfire" wars and Peacekeeping their is a real sense in which although available these weapons cannot be brought to bear. Be it Bosnia, Somalia, or Sierra leon, we see western forces engaged on a daily basis in CM scale operations, conducted at company level. One of the key things that would come in which is missing from CM are Civilians, targets which cannot be attacked by one or both sides and which may are may not be enemies. These might be covered quite well by the fog of war rules, and might include semi units which could spot for an enemy but not fight giving them a tactical advantage. Similiarly searching buildings could well be covered by an adaption of the mechanism for clearing mines. AAAAt first because of their speed I thought Helicopters would be a problem, but given that they have to stop to land and that you have to spot and judge the terrain would make them no more difficult than jeeps, and the biggest constraint would be their vulnerability. One reason I am keen on this is that I genuinely think that playing CM has made me more aware of the challenge and nature of small unit combat. A Peacekeeper version of CM would potentially be a good training tool for the military but more importantly might do to educate the public into just how difficult it actually is. Being in the UK and talked to people who have been in both Bosnia and Northern ireland, it is amazing how many people thay meet who say "Why didn't you Just.....", and just have no idea quite how difficult the task on the ground really is. What do people think... Peter.
  6. I am a bit of a novice at this so I apologise if I've posted it in completely the wrong place, also I no nothing on the technical side so it's up to you clever folks to make something of them. I hope I don't start by offending anyone state side but as I live in Scotland I feel that CM terrain dosn't really feel that European so here are some suggestions mostly based on the fact that we really don't have the wide open spaces and towns you have. 1)Terraced Houses;- Terraces are very common even in small European villages often called rows in Scotland. This might be simulated by a combination of heavy building and wall, with the building running continuously from one side to the other. Redoing the existing wall tiles in this way would not only allow a more realistic depiction of rural France, but when used as single tiles would allow "L" and "T" shaped buildings. 2)Offset walls;- When you run a Wall, Hedge or Bocage, near a road it doesn't look right because it's so far back, they are normally feet rather than yards from the road. To simulate this instead of running the feature down the middle of the tile it could be run about 1/4 of the way. If we assume a road is about 5m wide then currently walls are about 65ft from it's edge, this change would at least bring then to within 50ft. An alternative would be to make wall tiles that ran along the tile edge, or to create walled or hedged roads, like the wooded road tiles. Ditches & Dykes:- A ditch is little more than an inverted hedge although I guess that might not be so easy to do. Dykes could be a adaption of a bridge but with solid sloped sides, barring vehicles but not infantry. A dkye over water would not only be good for Holland, but could also be used as alead in to bridges which would not only look good but would help to overcome or mask some of those quirky road twist problems bridges create when you have to change height to match the bridge levels. Used on it's own a dyke over water would also make a neat pier or harbour. 4) Barns;- Really any large agricultural building. A redoing of the existing large light building or the big heavy buiding with a wooden finish a fewer windows. It could be made more vulnerable to weapons , more likely to burn and restrictions could be placed on upper floor occupancy. Ploughed fields;- Brown stripped terrain a sort of darker broken for use as an automatic alternative ( Like water turning to ice) for cornfields in spring and autumn. Thanks for listening. Peter.
  7. Isn't there a historical basis for weighting tanks, the actual ability of a vehicle is one thing but surely as important is how likely you were to come across it It might be tough on the axis player but by 45 you could price a T-34/85 as low as 80 allowing the russian player to swamp there opponent.null
