I've found I sometimes lose a wingman when a game doesn't setup properly.
Typically I start a game, the dogfight screen appears, sometimes with the aircraft in place sometimes without, but then nothing further happens.
So I shut down the screen (X), it asks me if I want to exit, I press yes, again nothing happens.
I use task master to shut down the dogfight, it comes back with a "DiF is not responding" at which I end the task.
When I go back I sometimes find my wingman has gone - disappeared without trace. The leader still has his experience, etc, but I have to recruit a new wingman.
Win 98SE, 512mb Ram, 2.8GHz P4

M4A2 and M4A4 Sherman - About 2,000 of the M4A2 model were shipped, beginning at the end of 1943. These carried the standard "short" 75mm gun. Beginning in early 1944, M4A4 Shermans with the higher-velocity, more accurate 76mm gun began to arrive, and a total of about 2,100 had been sent by the end of the year. The 3rd Guards Tank Corps was equipped mainly with Shermans. -
Random can be a pain - in one case I got 1 shooting card in 3 turns with 2 elements of fighters - and that 1 was on the last turn after combat
I had the other guy (AI) screwed afer 2 turns - all his planes damaged & leaders followed and then....must've run out of ammo!!

I'm always in favour of progressive campaigns - ie where you take ana army, or in htis case a pilot(s) through a series of linked battels

So what's the trick to taking out these things?
Admittedly they were escorted, but the escort element was tied up by another Spitfire Element that was shooting it to bits - but every attack on a Stuka ended up with 2 or 3 points of return fire and they shot down 3 spits for the loss of 1 stuka damaged!!

Seems strange - DIF looses the connection for play when I get the dogfight screen up, but I can still chat to ppl using it!
I have to logout then login again to pick my campaign again to get the same error.
There's no error message except Connection to server lost.
BTW the campaign web page works in Firefox, but doesn't quite look right - some texts are overlapping.

I saw another work on German arty this weekend that mentioned that many of the 10cm Kanone's were transferred to coastal protection roles where "their great weight" (or words to that effect) was not such a problem.

According to my trusty "World War II Fact File" volume on MG's:
The BAR in Polish service was the Reczy karabin maszynowy wz.28, and was taken into German service as the 7.9mm leMG 154(p)
The Belgians made a licenced versian too - Fusil-Mitrailleur 1930, which the Germans called the 7.65mm le MG 127. The Belgians also made export versions in 7, 7.65 and 7.92mm, and had a tripod for it that could be used in ground or AA roles...
Polish BARs captured by the Russians were designated Rutschnoj pulemet Browning obr. 1928
The Polish and Belgian BAR's look different in that they have a different hand-grip at the bolt end of the gas cylinder to the US ones.
Polish M1917 Brownings were designated as Ciezki karabin maszynowy wz.30, by the Germans as 7.9mm sMG 249(p) or MG 30(p) (I don't know why there might've been 2 designations), and by the Russians as CMK wz.30 but they apparently didn't use them much.
The Belgians also produced some M1917's mainly for export to Sth America.
Madsen LMGs were mentiooned above - there were many different versions of them, and the Germans had designations for at least 3 Danish versions, 2 Norwegian versoins, and the ones they bought themselves before the war.

Hmm...I've got some info on hte K18 from the WW2 "Fact File" series by McDonald & Janes.
According to it the K18 entered service in 1934 as the standard medium arty pice, but was "too heavy for towing by horses and too light for its modest shell weight" and was gradually relegated to the coastal role where a sea marking shell was introduced.
There was a modification the K18/40, which got an extra 2000m range, but it wasn't accepted until a few were produced in 1943 as the 10.5cm schwere Kanone 42.
This doesn't tie up with those web page figures at all, so who knows...

A slightly different take on the question - but when did field guns adopt shields?
AFAIK they didn't have them in the American Civil War or the Franco-Prussian war, but I've no idea whether they were common by the time of the Boer war.

1/4" (6mm) or even 2 x 4mm maybe - but those whields look considerably thicker than the attachments on hte inside - so I'd be betting the highter end of that range.

Some other oddies - I've got some pilots who seem to be missing experience - eg a leader who had 54 total experience, but no abilities and no available experience to spend. Maybe he was one of hte former wingmen who's leader bought it when hte connection was lost - but I don't remember having any wingmen with 54 experience!!
Another who had 38 - a wingman - but no abilities and 30 to spend.
