Rob,
Did you ever have any luck with this?
Does anyone know how to make the Firefly CMMOS-compliant? I've heard that you have to use one of the old-school "batch file" mods, and it some how mates up w/ CMMOS, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be hot.

One way to do it is have one of your CM-playing buddies set up a pseudo-QB in the Scenario Editor (or do it yourself if you don't mind knowing what units the CPU has).

CMBB seems great- I own it but I've only played a handful of battles so far. My last two PBEMs were CMBO... there's just so many good scenarios out there, I'll probably be playing CMBO until 2050 or something! They both rock, though.

Well since you won't see this in CMBB (probably nothing until the re-write a few yrs down the road), maybe set your casualty level to a non-zero%, buy a few spotters, and smile when one or more don't show up b/c they are "casualties of counter-battery fire."Originally posted by Hans:Since we're on artillery.
A need to model counter-fire is necessary - and fire priority and FPF type missions. Sometimes the fire didn't come and sometimes you don't get as much as you want.
All sides had target acquistion units using various methods to find and silence enemy mortars and arty.
Use of your indirect against the enemy was one of the key decisions made by the commanders at all levels.

Does assigning a Cover Arc to a non-moving unit always 'unhide' the unit?
Can you simply add the hide command back on after cover arc removes it?

At least in CMBO, the issue of "it's not a generic icon so it IS in LOS" is not true. It seems that once a unit goes from just a sound contact to the lowest visual contact level, if it then goes out of LOS, but later returns to LOS, you'll see the (possibly lowest level) visual contact icon, even if you're only really getting a sound contact. I verified this in a recent game where enemy troops that had previously routed then returned, and they had "Infantry Squad?" markers, even though they were about 60m into woods... well out of LOS of any of m'boys.Originally posted by Leutnant Hortlund:The fact that the target tank did not blink in and out of existance (turn into a star) tells me that according to the game engine, the T34 had the StuG in LOS during the entire turn.
The crew was veteran, and generally they should not miss at 58 meters if they want to keep that lable.
As for rationalizing the crew's ineptitude, maybe the gunner had frostbitten hands? I don't have the manual in front of me, but don't Russian optics suffer a lot in extreme cold?

Hmmm, I've always that that the guy who actually pushes the button to fire the Death Star laser had the coolest hat (like a black sealed double clamshell). I wonder what kind of kool hat the Rebels will have... oh well, back to hiding the bodies.

A fighter-bomber probably flew overhead during the time while you were distracted... that sends the embarked troops scurrying away, or so I'm told.

Thanks Agua, I'll have to try Assenois now.

redwolf,
Not if you're only referring to this thread.

I don't know, but my first thoughts for such a thing are using variable rarity for one (my preference) but then picking a cutoff %, i.e. no one can buy a unit w/ greater than 30% rarity, or something like that. Also, that old CMBO rule some use is valuable: only 3 towed guns for the 1st 1000pts. of battle-size, then 1 more per thousand... YMMV.Originally posted by Dirtweasle:Just wondering if there is a good "balanced rules" guldline simaler to Fionn's balanced rules for CMBO?
I do not play too many PBEM games other than with my small group of regulars, but I remember how nice it was to fall back on Fionn's rules when I initially got involve with playing CMBO PBEM.
Is anyone developing or are there balanced force rules for CMBB?

Holding Bastogne is a lot of fun.

Read the CMBO strategy guide , which is very relevant even for pure-CMBB use (great basics).

Broken pic icon for me.
Maybe it has something to do with using Netscape.
Silvio? Are you using Netscape?
Gpig
Netscape is the problem. I tried IE and it works just fine.

Stuart is SO frckn effective in CMBO, since partial penetrations are NOT modeled. So non-lethal small-caliber penetrations wind up KO'ing tanks in CMBO; OTOH lend-lease Stuarts in CMBB should less lethal against heavy armor... except maybe for the 1 in 100 weak pt. hit.Originally posted by CombinedArms:Does anyone know how accurate that Stuart 37mm modeling is? I recall there was great debate at one point about both the Sherman 75 and the Churchill VIII's 95mm and folks finally had to concede that the modeling was accurate.

Fionn, I agree with Terence. Esp. since your departure was related to General Forum-type issues. I would hope that posting a CMBB AAR won't make you think that you will be hassled again. After all, how much flak did you get when you posted the Fionn/The_Capt AAR here (hosted at Mods and Modders)? It is too bad when such a small few can piss you off so much, but OTOH there's only about 11,000 registered users here who would since their hungry tactical fangs into it.Originally posted by Terence:I think you should go ahead and post the AAR. If you can stay away from political commentary, I'm sure it will be happily reviewed by the community with no ill will, or reminders of past unpleasantness on either side.

Firefly Problems...?
in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Posted
Phillipe,
Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that the mods had been updated. However, when I just D/L'ed the "new" ones and reinstalled them, the Firefly still doesn't change. Would you happen to know which mod/s, specifically, allow the Firefly to change via CMMOS?
Many thanks,
Silvio
