  1. Thanks. I'll just do that I think. I think it's the red text at the top of page re the 1.10 patch page that confuses it, indicating that the patch is not needed if ANY module is installed, giving Marines as an option:

    http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1214&Itemid=378

PS: Last minute change of plan. I've gone for the NATO module, mainly to familiarise myself with the controls under CMX2 while waiting for Normandy :-)

  2. Eagerly awaiting the release of CM:Normandy I have decided to get CM:SF and the British module. As such I'm a LITTLE confused over the patching that's needed. Essentially I want to go the shortest route for obvious reasons.

I can see that I perhaps could patch to 1.11 then 1.21 etc etc but, if I have just the original Paradox game, unpatched, can I just install the Mod and then 1.31?

Going through the site (and editing the post accordingly) it seems the shortest way is: Install Paradox game. Install British module and then patch to 1.21 from the British Forces patch link, finally patching to 1.31.

It's a little confusing because under the purchase info for British Forces is states the game must be patched to 1.10 yet under the Paradox patch section it states you do not need these patches if you have CM:Sf with ANY other module installed???? What makes it more confusing is that if you select the patch link to 1.21 from under the British Forces module section it takes you to a 1.31 patch link?? There is a sub clause using 1.21 first but the link to that takes you back the original 1.21 link saying that you need the BF game and a module so you end up going round and round in circles???

  3. Great to see these. Really can't wait for this to be released. CM:BO was the best PC game ever for me, I bought CM:BB and CM:AK but never played them quite so much, especially the latter. Sadly, much as I like to support BF the modern war setting is of no interest to me whatsoever so, despite trying with the demo etc, couldn't bring myself to buy CM:SF etc. This will be a most welcome return to PC based wargaming for me :-)

  4. Had a bit of a shock today as when I booted up to check the site/forums I ket getting a 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close' each time I tried to open it??? I am on Win XP Media Centre and am using IE7. It dwaned on me that that if this didn't resolve itself (as it did when I re-booted) I'd be stuffed and couldn't get online.

Is it possible to run two browsers and if so, what is as good as (or better than) IE? Even if I cant install two at a time a may try having one downloaded ready to install just in case. I have downloaded Firefox today.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

  5. Some time ago I had a game called Steel Beasts which I never really got into BUT the sounds of the Abrams' when their engines were fired up (or even when at the idle with just the 'electrics' ticking over) were superb. Presumably BF will be giving the normal attention to detail to the vehicle sounds? Also, when putting vehicles into the CM equivalent of 'Hide' (if there will be such an option) will there be a noticeble shut down in engine noise (just so I can continually start them up again :) )?

  6. Now I'm really quite stuffed here :-( I have at last bought a new PC and still have my old one in a cupboard. Only thing I haven't resolved is that I have a LOAD of e-mail messages relating to CM in countless sub folders of one CM folder in Outlook Express.

Now I've ploughed through the Help and searched the disc but can't for the life of me figure out how I can find what I would have thought would be a ralatively easy folder to find to copy it across to the new machine??? I would probably use a USB stick. Last thing I want to do is copy the content out from the mails into a million page Word or Notepad file. Any help appreciated.

  7. Thanks very much for reply. I gave up and made daughter an 'Admin' and have created a System Restore point. The adapter does use its own software and in fact I'm fairly certain you can't even 'allow' Windows to manage the connection in this case.

I may try what you suggested at the weekend, or in another life. I've spent to much time piddling round with this that I've had enough of Pcs for now :) Part of me actually hopes the Sitecom adapter will suffer a premature death at which point I'll buy one that's less problematic. I actually bought it following a review in the UK PC PRO magazine saying it was excellent. Shan't bother with THEIR reviews any more :-(

The other post is indeed from me. This was a week or so before when I lost a whole day trying to get the first one they supplied to work. Turns out it was US and they sent a now one which did work.

Interestingly I also installed an MP3 manager for her, again under my profile. When she logged on with a 'Limited' acount, again, no joy, won't let her use it?? Perhaps it's a Windows Media Centre thing??

  8. Apologies for posting this here as this isn't CM related at all but I don't 'do' PCs and their forums etc so wouldn't have a clue where to start. I've just replaced mine and daughters PC. Hers needed it, mine wanted it (mainly for CMX 2 etc) :)

I have a Netgear DG834PN wirless modem/router connected by ethernet cable to my PC. No problems there. We also have a Sitecom Wl117 wireless adapter in my daughters PC. All works fine aprt form one minor problem. I set

the USB adapter up on my daughter's PC using an Admin account that I retain for me (basically I don't want major settings made and/or junk installed that I don't know about) or potential accessing of router settings etc.

Now, when I boot her PC under my (Admin) profile it fires up the wireless and its associated software and connects fine automatically. If I then switch user to my daughters profile it also works fine (e.g. it seems to connect under my profile and then hold that connection during user switching). However when I boot from 'off' under daughters (limited) profile I get the Sitecom software up but no network is displayed and I cannot connect? I tried then changing my daughters account to an 'Admin' one and the network showed up. I went through the various

settings (DHCP enable etc) and bingo it connected. However when I changed her account back to a Limited one, when I boot under her profile it won't connect again?

Is this something to do with network or IE settings etc. Surely not everyone using a PC with wireless adapter in it needs to be an Administrator? Is there somewhere I have to click to 'allow all users of this PC to use my wireless connection'?

    Any help much appreciated.

  10. Thnaks for comments. That one is £899

I'm also contemplating the one below (£799). an't make my mind up. I have had Athlons on all my PCs so far and I wonder whether the Intel below would run cooler and as such need less cooling. I'm also not quite certain what the issues are with the wide screen above. IIRC not all games support wide screen format. I suppose if they don't you just get two vertical black bars either side (hoepfully the images aren't stretched out to the sides). I'm actually not too bothered about mega sound quality these days (mainly because I've gone off the countless wires and boxes with 6.1/7.1 etc) so I may opt for the ob board sound , save £30 and get some Itrigue 2.1. Planning to hit the order button today. Any comments much apprctiated.

  11. Well, it's defintely time. Son has acquired himself Age of Empires 3 and, despite full driver updates, this machine I think is dying. It's certainly not state of the art today (AMD Athlon 2100 with a Nvidia Ti 4200 graphics card) but I'm surprised it crashes out and locks up as much as it does. Mind you this game of his does say a 1.4 Ghz processor is needed and it flashed up saying "yours is 1.3 - stand by for problems" (never have been able to get my head round how Intel Ghz readings relate to Athlons :-( ).

Still, as long as what we get plays CM (and of course CMX2) I'm not that bothered. ATI Radeons were always a no no for me re the fog issues so on that basis I'm opting for another Nvidia.

One small point, I've never bought a widescreen PC before but this comes with one by default. Presume it doesn't stretch the game screens out like some form of bizarre cinEMAScope??

    Anyway, here's the spec:
