  1. Some excellent points and ideas there! Thanks. I am using Panzertruppen's buildings--beautiful. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one leaning toward Old Dog's grass. So far, I just find it the most effective all around. I haven't tried Gunslinger's trees. I'll give them a shot. Spook, I'd love to try out your modified version of Old Dog's grass. I think you and I are on the same wavelength. I'll gladly accept your offer. At your leisure, send off a batch to this address: Mudfrost@home.com I appreciate it and I'll let you know how it works out. All best, Mudfrost
  2. Maximus, I agree. As much as I like DD's grass, I too think it's a bit too uniform in its shading. I like to see depth in the grass, and that's what brings me back to Old Dog's. It's got depth while retaining its tactical value. Monte, I haven't yet tried the grid overlays, simply because I don't want to detract from the beauty of CM's landscape. Shallow, maybe. I'm sure I'll get around to it though. Thanks for your input. Mudfrost
  3. Is anyone using Old Dog's Subdued grass? High or low res.? I've just about worn out my hard drive trying to determine which grass is the best for me. I think I'm down to three choices: In no particular order: - DD's high res. - Wolf's high res. - Old Dog's Subdued Velvet grass, high res. Of course this is a matter of taste but I'd still like to hear about your favorite. Everyone knows DD's grass is excellent, and Wolf's is perfect for tactical sighting, but I haven't heard much about Old Dog's Subdued grass. Looks right nice to me, and works very well with DD's trees (best trees, IMO). I keep coming back to it but wonder why I haven't read more about it on this forum. I'd like to hear your pros and cons of those listed above. Thanks, Mudfrost
  4. If you start at the beginning of the Gamepen Awards article, you'll have a lot to trudge though (35 pages). But here's the one that will interest you most: http://gamepen.ugo.com/gamepen/Features.asp?itemid=83&pageid=21 Now, don't read any further if you want to be surprised. Hell, no surprise. Bravo, Battlefront! Mudfrost
  5. Man, I sympathize with you guys who have waited so long. But for the sake of possible newcomers and fence sitters who might be reading, I thought I'd report my order and delivery history. I ordered CM very early last Wednesday morning and received it on Saturday. Maybe I was just lucky. Needless to say, I couldn't be happier with that kind of efficiency. I don't mean to rub wounds; just thought I'd present the other side of the coin. If you're concerned about your order, I highly recommend sending off an email to Madmatt (sorry, Matt). He was quite helpful in our communications. Good luck guys. Hope it's at your doorstep soon. Mudfrost
  6. Maximus, While that makes perfect sense, I see no difference when I shut off the ambient sounds. Could they still be running in the background as well? Mudfrost
  7. Oops, sorry about the double post--fingers went haywire. UPDATE: I loaded in a number of "medium, large," and even a "huge" scenarios, and I don't experience the stutter I'd gotten before on the "All or Nothing" scenario. It seems this scenario is the problem. Not that there's a problem with the scenario, I just think it's the weather effects (rain and thunder) that are bogging me down. Which brings me to my next question: If I turn off the weather effects, do I have to reload the game in order for the new condidtions to take effect? I swear, I turned them off but noticed little difference. Hey, if this one scenario is my only problem--and it ain't much of one--I have no complaints. Bring on the hi-res! Mudfrost
  8. How much difference in speed to you find between using high res. mods vs. low res. mods? Now that I've got the full version of CM, and am able to load in the large scenarios, I finally noticed a slow down when scrolling. I know about the in-game options I can adjust but I'm going greedily for both gameplay and eye candy. I'm currently using high res grass, pavement, Shermans, DD's new uniforms (sweet), and maybe one or two other small mods. Am I right to assume the grass will cause the biggest slow down? My system basics: Pentium II-350 Voodoo III w/16 megs 64 megs RAM 2 gigs free on the hard drive --defragged, all new drivers, approx. 86% system resources Thanks for your input. Mudfrost
  9. How about Perfect General? That was another early one that stayed on the hard drive for quite some time. Speaking of which, what ever happened to the guys at QQP? Mudfrost
  10. Good to hear, Cavall. I think Matt will fix you up. Best of luck! Mudfrost
  11. I have a rich fantasy life. Crazy thing is, we know it will happen one day. In the meantime, has anyone discovered a good (GOOD) turn-based combat/strategy game for the Palm? Later, Mudfrost
  12. Hasbro is good for Yahtzee--that's about it. Mudfrost P.S. Hell, even then they failed.
  13. Remember QQP? Conquered Kingdoms? They had a good thing going for a while. Mudfrost
  14. Cavall, Your situation seems extreme. I can't imagine what the problem is. I suggest you e-mail Madmatt. I don't know that he got my order here any quicker but he was very supportive. Give him a shout. His e-mail address is at the top of the page. Mudfrost
  15. Bumping for those on the fence. Three day delivery ain't bad. Mudfrost P.S. Should I get commission for this?
  16. Now that I've got the game, , which user-created scenarios do you recommend? I'm partial to Normandy, D-Day and beyond, but I'm certainly not locked into that. I'm looking for the best out there. Thanks for the help. Mudfrost
  17. Bullethead, I'm pleasantly shocked to see Task Force, 1942 on your list. Not just because it deserves a nod, but because long ago I worked as a freelance artist on that project. That was one of the last games to come out of MicroProse before Spectrum Holobyte took over--long before the Hasbro days. It's been a while since I've heard anyone mention that game..sniff. Good to know it's still in somebody's heart. Mudfrost [This message has been edited by Mudfrost (edited 01-07-2001).]
  18. Commissar, I keep meaning to get back to Myth. Multiplayer Myth was quite an experience. Deathmatch with angry dwarves pleased me somehow. Mudfrost
  19. I know I've seen more information than this, but I can't put my finger on it. In the meantime, here's an ancient Harpoon IV link: http://www.zdnet.com/gamespot/stories/news/0,10870,2446494,00.html Mudfrost
  20. It's definitely coming. I can't remember where I saw the last article but it stated the release date as mid/late 2001. If I turn it up, I'll post. Mudfrost
  21. How did I forget Harpoon? Of course, Harpoon. And the new one's coming! Mudfrost
  22. Gary Grigsby's "Pacific War." Man, did anyone else trudge through this one? I admit, as much as I admired the accuracy and depth, I didn't get too far. Somehow, I lost interest. Never-the-less, it's still on my short list of small treasures. I understand there's an update coming. I'll pick it up again when that's released. Mudfrost
  23. Sorry, Jock. I don't know what to say. Guess I was lucky. Hang in there; it's worth it. Mudfrost
  24. Skott, Man, you should try Steel Panthers: World at War (see link above). Even with your system, I think you can run it. I agree: Steel Panthers is still one of the best. Mudfrost [This message has been edited by Mudfrost (edited 01-06-2001).]
