  1. Empire! Was that the 80s or 90s? Never-the-less, groundbreaking game. Oh, right... since we're not locked into reality, how about X-Com? Another revolutionary game. Mudfrost
  2. I received my copy of CM in the mail today and it's version 1.05. Townsend, I'm sure you got the same CD, so there's no need to install the patch. Mudfrost
  3. TownsendVol, Did you get your copy yet? Our orders were sent out on the same day. Hope you got it. Mudfrost
  4. We should probably mention Steel Panthers: World at War. Not only is it a great wargame, it's free! http://www.matrixgames.com/news.asp Mudfrost P.S. No affiliation.
  5. Feel free to include games from 2000. That was just a Polish oversight on my part. Seems I can't get a grip on the millenium. Mudfrost
  6. oops.. a couple of those came out in 2000, didn't they? Oh well... Mudfrost
  7. Which are your favorite computer wargames? Naturally, Combat Mission tops the list, but beyond that, which ones do you consider to be the most in-depth, addictive games available? Your choices don't necessarily have to be within modern day, military standards. In other words, space & fantasy battle works fine here. Just looking for the best in sleep-depriving warfare. Here are a few of my choices in no particular order: - Battleground series (Gettysburg, Antietam, etc.) - West Front (Talonsoft again) - Operational Art of War - Starfleet Command II - Panzer General 3D (oh, come on, it's fun!) - Shogun - Tanks! I could go on but I'll stop there. Hit us with it. Mudfrost
  8. I know some of you had to wait quite a while for your game to be delivered, especially those of you overseas. I've been reading this forum for a few months now, and I expected the worst when it came time for me to place and receive my order. Patience in check, I placed that order, and here's what happened: I submitted my order very early this Wednesday morning past. I emailed MadMatt that night just to see if anyone at Battlefront had heard of me. He wrote back to let me know the order had not yet been processed but probably would be within a couple of days. I expected that. We exchanged a few more emails. I couldn't believe how quickly Matt was responding. Within an hour, we'd traded at least four emails--all very supportive and friendly. Hoping to receive the game by this weekend, I tried bribing Madmatt with a Thanksgiving dinner--beer and wine included--if he would just hurry my order along. Tempted as he was, he wouldn't bite. The offer of hot buttered rolls almost got him. I'll cut to the chase. I placed the order Wednesday morning and got it today--Saturday. Not only does this game rock like a muther, the people behind it do too. My demo's dead. I'm off now to refit a whole new world with grungy mods. Thanks and all best to Matt & company. Mudfrost P.S. Maybe the buttered rolls worked after all.
  9. Yep, I read a bit more on Matmatt's page and found that these sounds are not compatible with the demo. Unfortunately, my full version hasn't arrived yet! Next week, if all goes well. Thanks for the reply. Mudfrost
  10. I just installed Madmatt's 17meg sound file, and while most of it sounds great, some of the voices are playing in slow motion. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what's the fix? Thanks, Mudfrost
  11. Townsend, I'm right behind you. I placed my order early Wednesday morning. Last night, Madmatt was kind enough to look into the status for me, but unfortunately it hadn't been processed yet. I'm hoping mine was included in the same batch as yours. We'll see. In any event, enjoy yours when it shows! No, doubt you will. Mudfrost
  12. Seimerst, I'd be glad to start up an e-mail game with you but give me a little time to get my feet wet. As I mentioned above, I'm still green around the gills. I'm hoping to receive my copy sometime next week, just before vacation starts. I doubt I'll be able to avoid e-mail play for long. Very much looking forward to it. Thanks for the invite. I'll keep in touch. Mudfrost
  13. Thanks for the welcome, Naja and JD. I look forward to getting to know you all better, on or off the battlefield. As soon as I shed a few shades of green, perhaps you'll be up for a PBEM. All best, Steve
  14. Yeah, I'm looking forward to the addiction. I think the last wargame that felt so unique and captured me like this was "Empire." Anyone remember it? It even inspired Sid Meier to create Civilization. Of course, there have been many great games since then but few have that revolutionary feel. Steve
  15. You've taken it out of context. Yes, I said I would have bought it long ago, but my reasons for waiting had nothing to do with a fear of online buying. Please, let's not waste space and energy on this. Take care, Steve
  16. Maximus, I don't know where you got that from. I wasn't fearful at all, simply slow in placing my order. Read carefully. Steve
  17. I've toyed with the demo long enough. I knew right off the bat that I loved this game but I didn't dish out the money until this morning. Why? Oh, Visa, Mastercard, Gas & Electric, hell, I don't know, the bills keep coming in and it's sometimes tough to justify the cost of a game, even at a reasonable price. The cats want to eat every day, and since I like them, I feel obligated to fatten their plates with the best from 9Lives. Odd thing is, if CM had been available at the Electronics Boutique that stands, more than figuratively, just beyond my back yard, I would have bought it long ago. Immediate gratification--it's an illness. The play money, left over once the bills are done, went toward other things: books, music, gifts, other games--some good, some not so much. Sure, I was often gratified but just for a short while. The voice in my head kept up. It said things like, "Combat Mission." I played the demo some more. I sucked but it didn't matter; it brought me back for more. I even won a few battles. The bug bit deeper. I downloaded mods and made the world rugged and beautiful. I sent letters to friends, telling them to buy this game and send me a tank through their e-mail smoke. I finally caved. I payed Mastercard and Visa and Gas & Electric. I muttered something to Buzz & Scout(the cats)like, "It'll be ok, there's more chicken." I aimed a mallet at the ceramic pig bank full of coins and it spilled out forty-five dollars plus shipping. I fired up the Battlefront website, typed in my order--hit SUBMIT. Steve
  18. Try here: http://www.combatmissions.co.uk/ Just click on BMP list. Good luck, Steve
  19. Bumping for the New Year. Hit us with your favorite mods. Steve
  20. Happy New Year all! Time for resolutions; time for change. So, how about recommendations for your favorite mods! Post 'em here. Wolf might be winning me over with his tactical landscape--it just makes sense--but I'm still hunting the ultimate. What's your perfect mod combination for tactics and esthetics? Happy New Year. Stay safe. Steve
  21. Is it possible to download Gunslinger's rough only, or is it included in his terrain pack? Thanks, Steve
  22. Ryan, I liked your suggestion. So far, the Desert Fox grass looks best with DD's trees. I'm sure there are a hundred other combinations I haven't yet tried but I'm happy with this. Now, if we could just get Wolf's elevations in here... Thanks for the tip. Anyone else have a good terrain combo? Steve
