  1. That was my also my first thought. I thinks it seems kind of odd to keep a mode like playing by email an cancel the only mode I really wanted to play. I know I should have informed myself but it just never crossed my mind that this would not be implemented.

    Ditto.

Guess being gone for 5 years or so was a mistake. WeGo was what made CM CM...

  2. I'm currently getting WAXED as the Germans in a PBEM of this one. The Russians in the woods on the left wiped out a platoon and the FT, and the grunts trying to make it up the hill to the leftmost bunker have been pinned down an eliminated by MG fire from the bunker, the MG on the hill and the russian squads in the woods. I too was requesting a cease-fire when the lost platoon showed up, and they're trying to get into position , but I'm afraid they're going to be too little, too late...

  3. RE: Anti-tank capabilities of Russian infantry

Finished up a QB the other night. Regular and Veteran Russian mechanized force against random germans. When I saw I wasn't going to be allowed ANY armor, I decided to pick up an airplane. I got LOTS of ATRs and a couple of Uber-Ampoulets. Two platoons of recon squads, one 82mm mortar, three halftracks, two armored cars and on DSK 12.7. Hilly wooded map with two flags, one on my left flank in the tall pines (small), one more near the center, right on the edge of the woods (large). What was really interesting about this map was that between the two flags, just slightly beyond the woods was a large ridge. So any units on the edge of the woods couldn't see or be seen from most advancing enemy units in the valley.

I took the far left flag uncontested and unspotted, and set up a couple of squads for the ambush. My aircraft came in on turn two and launched what appeared to be rockets, with seemingly no tank hits :( .

On about turn 8 or so, I finally see what's coming up the valley at the center flag. A couple of 251/10s and a PzIV. I get a couple of the ATRs into striking range. Dead halftracks. They are still getting pounded when spotted by the tank though. Finally I rush 6 ATRs out of the woods onto the open ground at the top of the ridge. I swear I must have had 30 or so ATR hits over the next 20 turns. The tank keeps on rumbling towards the center flag.

He gets two of my halftracks before I finally get a mech squad to drop a molotov right down the top of the buttoned hatch and the crew bails.

Moral of the story - ATRs good agains halftracks, bad against tanks. Molotovs - better than you might think. Minedogs - priceless...

I'm playing this one right now as the Germans in a PBEM, and am getting my ass handed to me. Things went bad from the start as I dropped off my infantry in the woods to the far right, right where the road turns. Unfortuneately, there were a whole lot of partisans hiding in there. I killed a bunch of them I think, but lost ALL of my grenadiers.

All of my trucks have gone kaboom.

All I have left are the tanks and some of the HT/Acs, those I've lost some of each. I've taken the main town flag, but holding on to it, while still trying to exit, is going to be very tough.

  5. I saw this one last night as well. Playing the Tractor Works as the Russians. Had a T34 at the end of the tracks. German infantry in the southern instrument works, that I had been shooting at the turn prior. Used rotate, (and only rotate), to bring the front armor around to bear on the infantry. Movie starts, T34 makes a "Fast" move right up against the building.

Luckily, all of the German AFVs were gone at this point.

  6. So I've plotted what is sure to be the greatest 60 seconds in Combat Mission history. I press "GO!" and eventually I get to the enter a file name blah blah blah message. I click the mouse. At this point I hear the unmistakeable sound of a panzerfaust firing.

When I get the movie back, sure enough, within the first few seconds of the movie, one of my vehicles bursts into flames.

Has anyone else seen this before? Has anyone had it happen where the tank doesn't get killed? Has this been fixed in CMBB?

this has now happened to me on two occasions, so I think there's something to it...

  7. Well I've got one of those "pre-built" HP comps. Windows ME, (no problems here for me), 850 MHz, lots 'O disk, 90 megs I think of memory. Have had no problems with CMBO. I DO have the "non-upgradeable" video thing, although I think I hae 11 MB of memory. Can't remember exactly. I just hope that CMBB will run on it. Hell even if it doesn't run perfectly smoothly, it will work for me!

But the real question is, if you've got this built-in video thingamajig, can you still slap in a more appropriate video card? Or will the built-in stuff refuse to "give it up" so to speak?

That would of course require finding a slot for the thing, which given the cramped inside of this box will be a bit of a challenge...
