  1. This I think has been fixed, but infantry would often run towards the nearest best cover when under fire, often straight towards the enemy position. For example, running towards the woods where the enemy fire was coming from, as there was only clear terrain behind you. The "gamey" part, if one considers it so, would be where an ambush was set up with full knowledge that, by the time the ambush was sprung, the TacAI would seek the wooded terrain and dash forwards, as opposed to just taking cover or trying to withdraw. This could be construed as using the game engine itself against an opponent. If you are unfortunate enough to have the ambush sprung right at the beginning of a movie, you could be out a squad or two before you can react.
  2. Some type of smoother drop off than the current 90 degree end of map. Ideally, a large drop off (not 90 degrees) would be great (clearly indicating the limits of your current operational area), with some much smaller and less detail graphics to the left and right of the map indicating that some sort of other fighting is going on (small figures of men and vehicles), complete with explosions and smoke during movie playbacks. Tracks for vehicles in snow, especially light snow, where the vehicle could churn up the snow exposing the ground underneath, assiting with detetion that at least something was there, and where it was going (or coming from)
  3. I agree that this would be a nice interim solution. A preview screen, while of course cosmetically superior, is not necessary. Just the information in text form would be good enough for me. If a preview screen is added at some point to CM, so much the better.
  4. CNA. Pre-ordered it one year before I finally got it, and remains the only wargame I have ever sold (to a friend who actually wanted to try it) as I could not spend my life trying to play it. Further, I wanted someone to get some use from it. Command at Sea, a small game from Metagaming, was very complex because the player had to calculate damage based upon shell weight and what belt of armour was hit (you also had to calculate, based on the shell you used, if it would simply pass through your target without exploding). Also, trying to determine if you hit your target, using the advanced rules of wind speed and trajectory, almost required a slide rule. It helped my calculus grades, however.
  5. I always find the catering to their maternal needs works. "Honey, I just can't sleep. It may be my stomach. I'm going downstairs to watch TV or something." "Your not going to play that game all night, are you?" "What game? Oh, yea, the e-mail one. Actually that might not be a bad idea. It's kind of boring, and it might help me relax enough to go to bed." "Just don't stay up all night." 5 a.m. "Are you still down here?" Me, with potato chips strewn about, a tall Coke with water on the top layer where all the ice melted, sweat beads on my brow. "Is it that late! Wow, I feel much better now however. Let's go to bed (surreptitiously saving your turn as you speak)." And God forbid don't complain about being tired the next day. You know what kind of reaction you'll get then.
