1. Thanks, lads ! Two games will keep me occupied until I learn the system. Let's close this thread then. Cheers All !
2. David - It is a thread asking what goes on in another thread. If you like, I can open another thread to discuss this thread about the other thread, but I fear this might get confusing Maybe if we write bigger letters you can read through the entire post ? (no offense meant)
3. Jeezes !!! Thanks, Mate ! Saved me a bit of wasted effort, methinks...
4. Hello All ! I am a complete newby to online/pbem gaming (never tried neither), but would like to give CM PBEM a go. The trouble being, phonecalls are so darn expensive I can only afford to be online evenings and weekends, an hour a day at most (*groan*). Where do I go to find CM opponents with a fair bit of patience, who can teach me the goings ? Any newbie-friendly sites out there ? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers !
5. Eh...Just wondered, can anyone give me a short resume of the 'Peng - public challenge' thread ? Something that gathers 2600+ posts has got to be interesting... I am NOT going to read through all of them though !! How did this start ? Who's winning ?
6. Just wondered - do the planes in CM have actual 'skins' - IE has anyone seen them ? I have seen a couple of shadows on the ground moments before my Panzers turned into coke-cans, but that is all. Shame, really... Would LOVE to see a FW190 close in...
7. Ooooh, I'd LOVE to see my name in CM2 ! It would have to be a pretty invulnerable unit though !! Maybe a JS2 or a Tiger...
8. Bah ! One Tiger up front, and it does not matter what squad types follow it...
9. I used to line up all three Stug's to the left of the church ( towards the mapedge) facing the treeline with the American flag and wait for the shermans to attack down the road. I'd place my infantry in the '0ther' forest to attract the Sherman's fire. After the first 1 - 2 Shermans caught one in the backside (depending on where they broke through) I'd reverse the Stug's towards the church to avoid infantry fire. An artillery barrage into the treeline certainly helps ! Then I'd just wait for the Shermans to crest the hill/treeline. There is not enough room for more than two/three Shermans to advance at once. Correct me if I'm wrong. This should give the Stug's a fighting chance. A Panther would be nice, though...
10. In that case, I'd better get a move on.... Let's start here.
11. Yes, Yes, I have done a search, but could not find it. I came across this rank in the scenario 'All or Nothing'. They are part of the SS unit. Anyone care to enlighten me ? PS. Slapdragon, are you recruiting for the Hamster force ? Count me in. EEEP !
12. My copy actually got lost in the mail. Fortunately Steve sent me a new one for free, which arrived after 1 week (Norway). Don't worry; you'll get it in the end, one way or the other. I'm 50% Brit (Manchester Dad). Does this count ?
13. Bates - I see what you mean. I can agree with the point he makes, but it's not exactly 'unbiased investigation'. Looks like some sort of private vendetta or something. Oh well, Hazel/Hassel is a godgifted teller of tall tales, at any rate. Remember the wrestling match in hospital between Tiny and his huge girlfriend, or Porta's experience as a russian 'Pope' ? Marvellous... Cheers !
14. OK, sorry I am once again a slight bit off topic, but... I just wish to express my utter delight with the managment. As the more compassionate of you out there have noticed, the mailman conspiracy stole my CM copy and for some reason delivered it to Herr Bruno Weiss. When I contacted Steve@Battleetc he immediately offered me another copy for free. How's that for service ?!! Just wanted to say THANX, STEVE !
15. catullus - thanx much. Very interesting ! I didn't know that, but as howardb said, who cares as long as the books are so entertaining...
16.
quote:
Originally posted by jpinard: In the day of 1 Gig installs, and trillions of files & helper files... I'm amazed every time I look at the core of Combat Mission: A single executable with a size of only 3.6 Meg. Think about the massive amount of physics calculations that are run from the size/weight/speed/etc> of the projectile to the slope/hardness/quality/etc> of the armor it hits. I just cannot believe they crammed all that into such a tiny file! After all, the rest of Combat Mission is just sounds and texture maps. How did you do that??!?!?! WOW!!!!!!

They are geniuses. All of Them.
17. Jøss, en viking...! Hallo Heinz ! Yep, both the tophat, tin whistle and three-piece suit. No sign of Lillebror though... Hilsener fra verdens navle, 6480 AUKRA ! C'mon ! Do only us Norwegians know of Sven Hazel's books ?! (Danish author of the best warbooks EVER )
18. Oh Lord. My copy of CM has gone missing in the mail. It is so late now I fear it has been kidnapped. Do anyone know of a support group for us lonely souls out here who have not received our beloved games ? I can't go on like this... Farewell cruel world (sniff) PS. Before you ask, I have no evidence of Hamsters being sighted in the area.
19. Thank God ! Then it should hit the Norwegian shores soon, as well... I've waited three weeks for my copy as well, and the demo is getting *worn*... Cheers !
