  1. Question:

In a TCP battle I checked on of my 50mm Paks and IIRC (it was late at night, after some Hefeweizen (yep, guessed right, german beer smile.gif )) found out that those brave men got 2 rounds of tungsten!!

Was that just a dream, or has anyone else also encountered this situation?

It was the first time EVER that I got tungsten for my AT guns, and I use them A LOT!

  2. Niles, there´s a small button that`s called "search".

Use it and you will find answers and do not have to ask questions that have already been asked before...

Don´t want to get on your nerves, but you will have a better time on THIS board if you try to follow some rules.

    To your question:

All graphics are stored in bmp-format in the cmbo folder, so you can work on them with every paint program.

  3. *** Climbing up a hill, seeing nothing. From a distance roaring laughter and cheers are heard from a hill to the south.

A flag is clearly visible on MY hill. Closer inspection reveals a sign: "Property of Caen country club, hole 18)."

Oh my god! Those guys in this small cars weren't trolls... Ooops.... eek.gif

Anyway, looks nice, my small hill. Will use it as an FO area.

  4. Germans are the "bad" guys? OK, let`s put that aside... wink.gif

I agree with you, Commisar, that the force selection depends heavily on your style of play and your mission.

But, as you point out, after 8 months of playing CM, I got my "favourite" units as well.

When playing ther Germans, I really appreciate the firepower of the Panzergrenadiere (mot. Inf.). Those 2 Mgs in each squad gives an extra bang on large distances.

And I REALLY like to use AT guns. In almost any game I buy at least two of these babes. Even cheap 50mms can kill enemy armour if placed properly. About 50-75% of all my tank kill are credited to those guys...

And never forget to add some 20mms for dealing with those fast enemy recon vehicles...

For infantry support never leave home without a Sturmhaubitze, nice blast value!

For tanks, well I don't like playing with "Ubertanks"... So no Kingtigers, Jagdpanthers and so on. I prefer to spend the points for those BIG cats rather in a mixture of infantry, AT guns and arty.

Ah, arty! Never go to war without some 120mm mortars, best (IMHO) bang for the buck for the germans.

And tanks? I'll like Hetzers, Stugs and yeah, sometimes a Tiger. And for battles with lot`s of trees or inside towns a Pzkpfw IV because of fast turret.

  5. This has been mentioned before.

The RUN command means just that:

"I want you guys running to that patch of trees IMMEDEATLY!!!

    "Yes, Sir!"

Running means "get your a***ss to the designated point as quick as possible!"

If you want your soldiers be more careful, try the "move" order.

Think of the "run" order as a kind of "charge" order.

You surely don't want to "charge" into an enemy ambush... wink.gif

IIRC german ships used that technique, too.

I read that the BB TIRPITZ used their 38cm main armament as flak against british Lancaster formations while stationed in a norwegian fjord as "fleet in being".

The shells were time-fused and were quite effectvie against large raids.

They could (through radar) open fire on distances up to 20 km.

I really would like to see an 38cm airbust! wink.gif

Sadly our society would rather forget everything and pretend we live at DisneyWorld. I for one know kids of today have very little knowledge of why this symbol is so linked with evil of times past. To bottle it up and try to hide it from view is one reason it remains such a powerful symbol to anyone who still holds on to the sick beliefs, or is foolish enough to be led to this by others.

But trying to hide them and force people to not remember them, adds to their power and mystique.

    Ray

MantaRay, the laws in Germany are NOT to mask history but to ensure that those symbols are NOT USED in a way to GLORIFY the NSDAP regime.

In Germany at school pupils learn a lot of the crimes committed by Germany during and before WWII, so there's no "censorship" about the past.

I am a German, served in the german army, and REALLY like to play CM, and that's the reason why I pointed out some problems that COULD occur when using swatikas.

Don't get me wrong. I really don't think that german authorities will knock on BTS door to a talk to Steve & Charles. smile.gif

But, for example, the big internet providers COULD stop german users from accessing the site. (Worst case scenario)

Anyway, even if you'd post swastikas all over the place, I woulnd't think that anyone in Germany cares... wink.gif

It's just the POSSIBILITY, that's all.

  9. The motorized infantry are Panzergrenadiere. Not all of these units were "armoured", e.g. equipped with halftracks. Think of them as equipped with trucks, and these are "parked" some distance from the front.

    A Panzergrenadiere squad has 10 men with 5 rifles, 2 MP44, 1 SMG and 2 LMGs.

That's more firepower than the standard rifle platoon which has 9 men with 6 rifles, 2 SMGs and 1 LMG.

So they're not so expensive IMHO. smile.gif

  10. Yep, nice work.

But I have to agree with Forever Babra. Here in Germany the use of swastikas is forbidden, if it´s not for scientific/educational use and computer games do not fall into this category...

If a german website links to a site containing illegal symbols, both can get into trouble.

No big deal, just my humble oppinion.

  11. I like the Stug III, too. Dirt cheap, low profile, good gun and armour. Equally effective against infantry and armour.

You gotta place it in a good position because it´s got no turret.

Always provide flanking cover against allied rushes.

Of course I REALLY like the Panther, but for the points of a Panther, you can buy two Stugs.

  12. Wow, interesting post.

1.) SMGs are superior to rifle squads:

-aha, guess you don´t like firefights over distances more than 100m...

2.) Tank battles are merely who can get hit first:

-good, you just learned one of the principles of armoured warfare...

3.) im always forced allies, because I always get stuck with a asshole who has a name like "SS_LEADER_COGERMANPANZERDIVISION_HERZ" that wants to be german side:

-well, perhaps you should play other people?

4.) I mean, all 11 guys pinned down? Couldnt some at least panic fire???

-yeah, they could. If they were not pinned... That´s what "pinned down" means...

All in all a very interesting post that shows that you invested time and energy in the game, read something about WWII weapon system and tactics and *****BOOOOOOOM*****!!

damned, that´s the 2nd sarcasm indicator I´ve wrecked today...

    :)

  13. I absolutely agree with RMC.

The content of CM as it is now is absolutely no problem here in Germany.

As long as you don´t glorify Waffen-SS-units and dont´t use forbidden symbols (swastikas, ss-runes,...) you`re on the safe side.

The main reason for games getting on the index is when they brutally show the killing of humans with lots of blood and gore (e.g. Kingpin).

Simulations and strategic games therefore do not pose a problem, as long as they comply with the aforementioned points.

I remember that ten years ago even "Gunship" and "Silent Service" were set on the index. I bought my copies from GB and Microprose went to court in Germany. I think they`ve won. :)
