  1. Fear Change!!! Fear Change!!! Old Things Good!!! New Things Bad!!! I mean this with the utmost respect to all of you, but some of you sound like the recording industry talking about Napster. The obvious solution for people who don't want to play mods is...don't play them. Mods for CM would do nothing but add interest in the game and raise sales. However, it would raise the bar for a CM2. CM is a GREAT game as is, but no matter how good a game is, there's always someone who can improve on it given the resouces (e.g. Half-Life/CS).
  2. Whether people like it or not, mods are the future of gaming. Half-Life must be the best selling game of all time that no one plays. People only buy the game to play the mods. I think in 5 years, buying a game that is hardcoded will be like buying a computer that wasn't "upgradeable" 6 or 7 years ago (older folks may remember when "upgradeable" was the action word when buying a computer.) The good aspect for game developers is that it maintains interest in a game and lengthens it's shelf life. The downside is that the original developers actually have to GIVE PEOPLE A REASON TO BUY THE NEW GAME OTHER THAN PUTTING A "2" IN THE NAME. It's more work for them and they have to be more creative in their game design. I wouldn't want to buy CM2 just because they added a few new units and said "Now we're in Korea." I want an 18-year-old game-designer-in-waiting to do that kind of stuff. If I spend money, I want a new engine, 3d graphics, better AI...things that require senior developers.
  3. Just thought I'd add to the mix. I've been running Win2k with a Voodoo3 3000 for about 5 months with no problems. CM looks fine although moving across a large map can be a bit slow (I'm using the Graphic Realism Mod with serious high-res). But I'm not seeing the extra flags or text that others are talking about.
  4. Sorry to butt in on your thread boys but there's just something I wanted to point out. We may have crappy beer but we make a pretty good computer game and it only costs half what it would cost in your country. That's a trade off I can live with. PS Beer's inexpensive here too.
  5. 19. One of Japan's methods of destroying tanks was to bury a very large artillery shell with only the nose exposed. When a tank came near enough a soldier would whack the shell with a hammer. "Lack of weapons is no excuse for defeat." - LtGen. Mutaguchi An interesting point about this one: In at least one instance of this, Americans stopped before a field because they could see the strange pattern of circles where the Japanese had dug their holes. The Americans then walked up to each circle, lifted the cover, and shot the Japanese in the head. It seems the Japanese had orders to strike the artillery shells ONLY when a tank was near. Japanese REALLY follow orders.
  6. Just to add to the mix... I have 2 Voodoo3 3000s (obviously on two different machines). Smoke looks great on one and lousy on the other. However, since the one that looks terrible is my girlfriend's which I don't update often, chances are it's the drivers.
  7. First off, I bought this game for 2 reasons: first, because of recommendations in gaming magazines and second because of this message boards. I couldn't find a negative comment about the game on these boards and people who posted actually seemed like adults. The game rocks. But when issuing commands, is there a way to quickly jump to the "next unit" like in Steel Panthers? Or is there a way to see a list of units? If there is a way, I can't find it and it's kind of a pain to try to click on each unit to make certain commands have been issued before hitting "go". A list of units would be cool also for when I loose track of, say, my spotters--pulling up a list of units that lets you jump to the unit you select would save me a lot of searching time. Any help would be appreciated.
