If that wasn't tongue-in-cheek, someone needs more time playing games in that genre smile.gif Many are rather sophisticated, in their way, and many allow you to issue orders while the game is paused, creating an effect similar to CM's turn system. Obviously, some do require more clicking than thinking, sadly, but hardly all.

Actually after playing my third or fourth RTS, I just got plain sick of them. Micromanagement sucks and playing a game I bought under pressure is no fun for me. :( Oh well, to each their own. The only one that I've played and enjoyed is Myth, though truthfully Mechcommander 2(the upcoming 3D game)has piqued my interest... I have a feeling I'll be sadly disappointed though. More interesting is the fact that you play CM, considering you took the time out to defend a style of game you like. I have found in my experience, many RTS players don't bother or even like CM much.

Better save your dough up then, it'll need the newest and shiniest piece of hardware available to run that puppy by the time it's released. Unless of course you like to turn all the settings down... then party on! Of course, they could reduce the horizon, and dummy down some of the textures... Then again, I could always invest in a 64MB GC and that may make all the difference in the world. smile.gif

  3. Well football or water-skiing aren't really even in the same ballpark... At least the apples and oranges are on the same fruit and veggie stand. ;) I know that one is tactical, while the other is Grand Strategy, but apparently small to medium strategy war tactics will work in EU; even a lake looks like a puddle when viewed from a far enough distance. Cannot the same be said about CM and the tactics you use there, but in a wider more grandiose scale? Don't get me wrong, I know they're not anything like one another, but I figured that people of a feather...

  4. Well, a few reasons probably exist as to why somebody would sell their copy of CM...

    1. It was a burned copy

    2. The person was a RTS freak, and couldn't handle the nail biting 1 minute Action Phase (maybe got a little chaffed playing with something else while waiting for the comp to think, those RTS are non-stop click-fest don't you know)

    3. The lack of an SDK might have turned them off, even though the MOD community is awesome, never changing the sheets can make for a stale smelling bed...

    4. They needed Crack...

    5. It was in a marriage council agreement, he'd get rid of the game, if she'd just shut the hell up...

    That's my list, I'm sure there's others.

  5. Okay, I know this is like comparing apples to oranges, but I's gots to's knows... Which game would win? Are they both equally innovative, original, and creative as both developers' and reviews claim? Are both games just as addictive, with that "Just this last turn, and I'll go to bed" type gameplay? I would have to say that playing CM piqued my interest in the need to want to conquer the whole world and not just a battlefield, but again, which game is better? I hope responses are favourable... my copy of EU is in the mail... Between CM and EU, nobody will ever see me again... :D

  6. I also replied to this post under the scenario boards (what was I thinking?) smile.gif , but I know for certain what happened. Two shells collided with each other in mid-flight (one from Wittman, the other from British armour); this explains why the shell fell short. The resulting explosion simply blew the hell out of everything close to it as the surrounding air ignited into a 1000° fireball... thats it for sure... you better check those screenshots out for the second shot from the grassy knoll. ;)

  7. Are you certain that the surrounding terrain around the road didn't catch on fire? The game may just assume that the surface under the road is burning (so if the road cuts through a field and a section of field catches alight, a square patch of fire springs up swallowing everything, including roads), thus making it seem as if the road was burning. Or... even better... What if two rounds collided with each other, one from Wittman, the other from the British armour? Cool....

  8. You think people would have better things to do with their time than criticize! Roll your eyes at this this! (_!_) tongue.gif Besides, I want as many peoples' opinions on this scenario as I can get, is that fine with you, bucko? Now, I have just a quick comment about my scenario, I was playtesting it yet again, and I realized that playing at daybreak makes a MAJOR amount of difference concerning LOS... like I said, I'm new at building scenarios. I purpose if any more people request to play this scenario, keep in mind that the present settings (dawn/dusk) may result in a brutal close combat armour slugfest...

Initially this was not the case; I designed the game to be played during the day, so many allied armour would be taken out at a distance if the Allied Commander was brash or cocky. As is the case, I find that both options are pleasing (again, I'm unsure about force balance), so feel free to change the Time setting to DAY for a totally different game experience. Thanks for all who lend a hand, none to those who have nothing better to do than nit-pick.

  9. As my first attempt at building a CM mission, I was wondering if I could find anybody to playtest the scenario... It's a 65 turn, fictional prisonbreak... I've playtested both sides, but being new to the balancing structure, I need more input. I am pleased with the terrain. At most, I've been able to achieve Minor Victory's playing both sides. Intially American casualities may be high, but experienced players may be able to find holes with a little experimentation and skill.

I will mail out the scenario to any takers, and feedback is a must! smile.gif Thanks for your time... The scenario is called A river runs through it...

  10. I recently developed a new board using the v1.12 CM map editor. I then uploaded the scenario to various FTP sites for people to download and try it out... As it turns out, 2 administrators (the only two sites I have sent it to) have reported a crash to desktop when trying to boot my scenario up. This has not happened to them before, so I was wondering if anybody has the answer to this problem or if it's a reported bug at all...

  11. You're absolutely right Dirtweasle, I double checked the All or Nothing map and I noticed that the designer dipped the river down a level, and also the elevation contours have been set to 2.5, whereas on my map it's 5m increments. Okay One final question... How can I make sure that a unit is immovable (ex. get the orange unit bases around them) during the Setup Phase. I find placing a unit in a neutral zone works to a limited degree, but the user still has the option to move it back to a friendly zone if they wish- I don't want that! I want to make sure that it moves nowhere! Thanks again!

  12. Thanks a lot- I have posted a similiar message in Tips and techniques, but I tacked on another question to it... could you take a look at the post and see if you can answer that question for me? It concerns a bridge over troubled waters! Thanks again!
