  1. OMG...this is kinda like female sports- casters coming into the locker room! All my wive's pent up hostilities over my playing of adventure games, flight simulators, first person shooters, and now Combat Mission! I do think she feels this is the most civilized game I have played since "Archon" on my Amiga 500. I do admit it is a good idea. However, my wife is fairly computer phobic and probably will not freely post. She probably will get me to type in her posts...hrm.... Well, best wishes for the CM-OWC! 2. SenileTea: I read most all of the Cesspool aka Peng's Challenge thread. Quite an entertaining read, I must say. I am a relative newbie to the wonderful CM experience. I know so little about PBEM, I can only say, "Huh?" But, count me in for a try. My home email is scribme@fullnet.net. I am most used to playing the Allies against the TacAI. I could probably average about 10 moves per week, under good conditions. Thanks, Emthon ------------------ assimilated...
  3. weewee: Same here. It is the notorious V3-xK driver problem. It is an admitted bug by 3dfx. I am about to pull the trigger on a geforce2-mx purchase. <groan> I just came back to the forum to see if anyone was having problems with the GF2-mx. Hope not.... L8r, Em
  4. I did a search for CGW and did not find a mention of our favorite game hitting the Top 40 so quickly after full release. To quote,"We're also glad to see the twin poster children for new age wargames - Combat Mission and Shogun - debut side by side. It's particularly noteworthy that CM landed on the Top 40 so quickly given no marketing whatsover and online-only distribution. Chalk one up for an indie." It debuts at 34 with the well-known ***** (five stars). Woot! Woot! Now, if we could just get 3dfx to fix the drivers so we would not get texture loss and whiteout! 5. Trooper- With an earlier driver version I got "color" outs. Instead of whiting out, it would put green, purple, and pink in the blank texture areas. While purty, it was annoying nonetheless! L8r, Emthon
  6. Oh, the pain. Still playing All or Nothing. Most of the times I can 1 turn done in two Saves. Nice, huh? NOT! As soon as I see any dropping of textures, I Alt-Save and then Alt-Quit, reload, and try to finish my move. The combination of texture corruption and my own slow play have made for a battle of epic time proportions. I think I have been playing this scenario for 1.5 weeks. Ugh. Painfully, Emthon PS- BTS, I still love your game!
  7. Well crud. Pretty much says it. I was going fine at 1024x on the Tutorial, Aachen, and Walk in Paris. Also, the quick perusal of the big Snow scenario. However, I have been slogging my way through All or None. OMG. What a cluster f***. I am at about turn 23 and I can hardly get through setting up my next move before the textures go to texture heaven. Ugh. So, it is save quickly before it freezes, kill the game, and restart...finish out my set up and hit "Go!". Let me repeat, "Ugh..." I am about this far <holds up fingers a 1/4 inch apart> from getting a GeForce card. I will wait maybe another week to see if new drivers or some other tech help may come through! I love this game. I hate the hassles! <rant mode off> Emthon
  8. Triple post, just lovely. It gave me errors...so, I kept re posting. Sheesh! [This message has been edited by Emthon (edited 08-28-2000).]
  9. I too dropped the rez to 1024x768 and no probs with my V3-2k. Overclocked, even. It also scrolls smoother, to boot. l8r, Em

  11. I think it is a great game too! I am a newbie and am really absorbed in this excellent simulation. Well done on the scenario. I played it 3 times. I finally got a total victory on the Allied side. I lost the first one, then got a Major victory. I also used a leapfrog approach down the south side of the map. However, I did it all on tthe south side. Try the Axis side for a change of pace. I got beat twice by trying to do the same thing on the south side. I would get over run by the US Infantry. Then, that awful artillery would start. Arghh! I also got both my tanks killed while leaving one of the US tanks alive. Holy smokes. Ugly. I turned the table by using feints and traps. I ended up hiding my HMG and LMGs until my infantry drew out the attackers into exposed positions. I also kept my Pzers mobile. I actually cheered when I killed both the Shermans and kept both my tanks alive. As you might guess, I had a total Victory. Major rout! I just finished Walk in Paris. Man, talk about the wrong one to be slow and cautious on... I got a minor victory. It definitely felt less than satisfying. L8r, Em
