3.
quote:
Originally posted by SS_PanzerLeader: Dr Brian, I have sat back for a while now and watched you propagate this crap.

Is this the crap you are referring too? << It is truly saddening that racists and self-acknowledged hate-mongers can be university professors.>> It was written by ScarletPimper. I'm anti-Nazi, and, according to him, racist. So, go comment on his crap. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 4. For anyone that has been alientated by my anti-Nazi beliefs, I apologize. Additionally, for the "disruption" it has caused to this forum. I can't believe I'm apologizing for being anti-Nazi, but I don't want to take away from the game, nor anyones enjoyment. Play the game. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is! 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Fred: Mr. Brian, please do at least SOME historical research, before posting such nonsense on a credited board like this.

Why don't you do some real historical research. You're a dweeb for even using that as a basis to discredit my statement. All you others, you've done a good job alienating someone that doesn't fall in line. It's sad many of you are so ignorant. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Scorpion: Dr. Brian, Please allow me to make a few humble observations.

I see you points exactly... that's why I've tried to "tone" down my political comments, if you want to call them that. But, as long as idiots continue to flame, then let them flame away. I can type too. Reference Scarletpimp. and von Breize (sp) above. Maybe, you can write an eloquent "observation" to them as well. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 7. Thanks you major H. I'm actually waiting for the day then, when someone developes an "Expert System" that actually thinks like a potential human opponent. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 8. Scarlet and von Breize, you guys crack me up. I guess maybe you should be professors to balance out my anti-Nazi beliefs. I wonder if students and humanity can accept your pro-Nazi teachings, which would be what you would be teaching to opposose mine, giving you the balance you so crave. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by The Scarlet Pimpernel: How does the sanctimonious Dr Brian explain boys playing with guns or war movies or war books or anything war related?? In my opinion Dr Brian is such a vehement anti-Nazi/anti-German that he is unable to detach himself from the topic enough to realize that we are only playing a game here.

Here we go again..... <sigh> You keep bringin it up. Yes, I'm anti-Nazi. What is wrong with that? Am I anti-German? Good question. In some ways, yes. Do African Americans have some sort of anti-White attitude in the US? Maybe. Many of them do, as they make it known. There history in the US is filled with bitterness and oppression. Well, it's sort of the same thing. When a nation and people try to kill and subjegate you and your people (Slavic) for over 1000 years, what happens? If you're Spanish, you could care less about Germany. The German people have not been trying to take your land for 1000 years. MAny of you fall into that category. For example, If your Armenian, you may have a dislike for the Turks. Germans haven't raped you lands. Many of you that are Slavic (i.e., Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, etc.) can seperate 1000 years of history and only consider the last 50. So you're not as "affected" as I am. That may be a good thing, as "healing" may begin. Sadly, I still see 1000 years. I expect something to happen again. What did they say after WWI? "No more war, never again!" Perhaps to much reading is a bad thing? Look at the Serbs and their neighbors. They've been at each others throats for 1000 years. Why? Because they keep taking andkilling each other for 1000 years. Get out of your little world of only 25+ or - years, and look big picture. Cut the crap that it was 55 years ago, and see that it's 1000 years of a pattern of taking. Then, you'll at least understand differing opinions. So am I anti-German? As long as they stay on their side of the river, no. So, when are you guys gonna show some decency to me? I've apologized to Germans, with the hope that they understand why people may not like them. Does that make all Germans bad? Of course not! But, the only thing many of you here are good for, is deriding opposing opinions such as mine, so fire away again. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by aka PanzerLeader: However the issue that you just mentioned, crumply, isn't at all laughable and has to be taken seriously. Unfortunately it was DocBrian's only good idea.

What's unfortunate? I find it unfortunate that you think it's my only good good idea. To bad many here are jaded. I play wragames, because, it's much better than Chess, and I enjoy outhinking my opponent, like in chess. Nothing like a good whipping too to keep me honest too. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 11. My experience is only through second hand accounts, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam vets (family, friends, co-workers). Yes, some battles were short, very short, but for the most part, they could be quite long, i.e., the firefights. A cowaorker years ago was in Vietnam, USMC 1st Sgt. Was up in I Corps. Anyway, he tells me they ran into an ambush/bunker complex. He thought the fire fight was maybe 10 - 20 minutes. When he looked at his watch, it was 3 hours long. The point? He had no idea that he was in combat for 3 hours. It must have been hairy, to lose time like that. anyway, he found most firefights were extneded if it was an enemy effort. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!
 12. Whew! Okay, I hope i didn't p/o anyone this time. They are what I have learned and researched and listened too, etc. Later! ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!

 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Kitty: Sheesh. The Poles weren't tough? You try charging armored vehicles and machine guns on horseback and tell me that doesn't take any courage.

The Poles are very courageous. In fact, they were the first nation to actually STAND UP to Germany and Hitler, and say no. Please do not put words like that in my mouth. But, to be honest, I stand by my statement that their military forces sucked, equipment, training, and philosphy. (Same for Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Norway, and yes, even France). I just got back from Poland. I wanted to take my father their before it is too late for him (he's Polish). In Warsaw, on just about every street, there is a sign that remembers how many Poles were shot, just for being Poles. Warsaw was also systematically demolished block by block as the Germans left (Something about Poles not deserving civilization was the reason), destroying over 90% There is an very old Polish saying. "A Pole is born with a brick in one hand, and a sword in the other." Obviously, to build up what has been destroyed by the invaders. Look at Poland's position on a map. It's like a funnel from invading armies of the west fanning out to the east... they have to cross Poland. Invaders from the east are funneled right through Poland. And remarkably, the nation of Poland and people still exisit. Yes, Poles are courageous. No doubt about it. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is! 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Kitty: Know any WWII veterans? If you do go talk to them and let them tell you how "ineffective" the Germans were.

Sure do Kitty, one of my unlces was butchered by soldiers under Peiper's direct command in 1944, but I guess, I never got to know him. My other uncles, who did survive the war, told me all the time how ineffective the Germans were, and how bad @ss they (my uncles) were. (2 in the US Army, 2 in the USN, 1 in the USAAF, both thearters of operation). But, that's the quality of German soldiers and leadership in 1944. Was it different earlier? Maybe yes, maybe no. So, the units they were facing across the race in France and Italy, were sub-par. It's a known fact, albeit some refuse to accept it, that the Germans by 1944 had depleted their best soldiers, and the US, who did not deplete their talent pool, were just better. That's why they got ashore, pushed them back, ran across France, and crossed the Rhine. Thoughts? ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is! 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: My statement was a joke, as evidenced by the smilie. Instead of treating it as a joke, you took it to back up your stand.

Well, it's not really a joke. So it's not backing up my "stand" since it's premise is based on facts. You're pretty much on the mark with it. But, I came to that conclusion after years and years of research and reading, and reading, and more reading. Like many of you, I'm sure we've read the same books. What, for lack of a better word, did enlighten me was the wealth of information available from the formerly closed Soviet (and to a lesser extent, Chinese) records. So many good books are coming out about tactics, strategy, and the war, from another persepective. A true historian of WWII can step back and look at that. Granted, I have certain predjuices agaisnt the Germany military machine that spread Hitler's terror across Europe, but, unless you read the newer works, we're stuck in the pro-German books. Many don't realize, that the West wrote these pro-German books, based on our subsequent conflict after WWII with the Soviet Union, the Cold War. We (the West) needed the former enemy Germany, as our ally in this conflict. P.S. Sorry to clip a lot of your quote, yes I do read the whole thing, but I clip the most important to address, otherwise, it clutters the message baords. Does that make sense? Or is it just a prejudice because of my beliefs? I hope not, as discussions such as these are helpful for all. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!

 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Specter: Hitler's meddling in the military affairs had significant repercussions for the German military forces! They came very very close to winning!

That's the excuse German Generals were using for years, because Hitler was dead (he couldn't "defend" himself, and the Soviet war records were "closed." If, if, if. If Stalin didn't purge his officer corp, Germany never would have gotten over the Bug River. How many ifs can we come up with? ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is! [This message has been edited by Dr. Brian (edited 08-25-2000).]
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: When qouting a post with a smilie, please don't remove it, as you change my silly joke into a simpleton's statement. I think you are the match that lit this silly powder keg and have forced us to reestablish the fact that we are all adults here with complex personalities.

Oh, come on already. It's like you think I did that on purpose? For crying out loud, I try to add to the discussion without debasing with any Nazi/Pro-German stuff some are intent on discussing (in fact, I agreed with your statement about the myth), and your saying I'm calling you a simpleton? Man, some of you crack me up. Once again, I didn't "start" anything. My orignal posts were about major howard and Fuzzy logic. If you look at them, you'll see in no way did I instigate anything. How did Fuzzy Logic get derailed???? Not by me. This was an honest question posted by Leyland (sp?) and deserved some answers. Go ahead, fire away at me, seems to be the only thing all of you are good at. ------------------ Doc God Bless Chesty Puller, Wherever He Is!

 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: However, I will argue that the German super-soldier is a myth started by the Roman Empire after their defeat by Germanic barbarians. I mean, think about it, the bloody Germans never won a war after that! 2000 years, people!

This is an excellent point. The German Armed Forces of WWII did have good units, but in general, they were not effective. The nations they "beat" were nothing (no disrespect to the fighting men of these nations). Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Yugoslavia..... oooo. real scary, tough armies. (A bit sarcastic). In effect, Germany beat up a bunch of really disorganized, and ineffective countries. They ran into trouble when they went into the USSR. You have to keep that in persepctive when you talk about "the skilled German Army." They lost to anyone that was decent. ------------------ Doc We kicked those Axis Powers (Germany and Japan, and all those that fought for them) butts in WWII!!!

 23.
quote:
Originally posted by dumbo: Please lock this one up. Also BTS consider banning Dr.Brian, I think his posting history pretty much says it all. thanks _dumbo

Nice try dumbo. But my topics were "game related." Oh, that's real good. Yeah, silence any dissenting opinion and "ban me." Like I said, my posts were about Major Howard (a great soldier, God bless his soul) and Ham and Jam, and Fuzzy Logic. You took it to the next level. Live with it. Reading through, Thomm and PeterNZ (plus others) have made some good points, and I can see that this is emotionally charged. You've gone to great lengths explaining yourselves and your beliefs, and I appreciate that. I can see how my comments have upset some Germans. If I've offended any Germans and their ancestry, I apologize. But please understand, if you choose to deal with me, I am strongly anti-Nazi. However, please understand that some of these screen names are offensive as well, to me. For example, Peiper was a war criminal directly responsible for the death of an uncle. To me, it's like using a screen name like "Jeffry Dahlmer" in a BBS that is for his victims families (for non-US people, he was a crazed killer that ate and froze people). Regarding the history lesson on Nazi German. Excellent, it is textbook. But many factors are missing. What is the personality of the German people toward the east? From the Teutonic Knights forward…. and I don't know what the "f" I'm talking about. I know more about it than you have in your pinky. But, I guess you know it all, eh? ------------------ Doc We kicked those Axis Powers (Germany and Japan, and all those that fought for them) butts in WWII!!! 24. Thomm, I see your point about the pathfinding algorithm. I've met Charles years ago and all, and BTS is a great company, especially their customer service to customer comments. Although I am not looking for any "trade secrets" regarding their programming, it'd be nice to know what uncertainty theory they used, if any at all. That is an indication of an AI/Expert System. The manual calls it AI. So I'd like to know what type. If there isn't any AI/Expert System, as defined by academia and industry, then that's okay. It is still a good game. Perhaps, they've made their own type of game theory using an new uncertainty theory. Maybe they can get a paper out of it. ------------------ Doc We kicked those Axis Powers (Germany and Japan, and all those that fought for them) butts in WWII!!!
