WINE!Originally posted by Battlefront.com:For those who don't know... pixies are on the right. They work for free powered by magical pixie dust. Kingfish,Originally posted by Treeburst155:...and $20 US will be sent to the highest scoring of the three winners so he can get some cheese to go with his wine...
Winecape,
After I win this tourney I would like my white wines to come from grapes blessed with Noble Rot, even the dryer whites. The complexity added by Botrytis Cinerea I really enjoy. I'm getting a little culture, you see.
There will be conflict of interest when Treeburst receives his own $20.00, not?
Botrytis it will be; I see that CMBB scenario of mine has rotted away on your hard drive after such strenous abuses...

For the good of the tournament, I think I should be sectioned with Walpurgis Nacht. I had a list of reasons why this would be beneficial to the tourney; but, I lost it. So, just take my word for it and put me in Walpurgis Nacht's section. Please. Thank you.

Lars,
It seems prudent I suppose to get a Sony unit that can play all zones, not just zone 1 and 0. But if that fails, I'll be happy to take a Zone 1/0 unit.
Moraine has moved the discussion here.
He seems to be on the trail of some adapter that can change the unit to an all-zone playability.

If it can only be purchased from the UK, no problem, I have a buddy there that can forward it for me. I'll await word on this adapter thingy majingy. Seems interesting.Originally posted by Moraine Sedai:GAH! Just got off the phone with a local electronic repair/service place.
He's not certain how to switch it to the Region coding you're after, but thinks there's some adaptor that will do the trick.
He's asked that I call him this afternoon to give him time to do some research and see if he can find something out.grrr!
NB:
Regarding the word "multi-region" in UK website referenced above: Mmmm... does it mean it plays ALL ZONES, or just 2 or 3 different ones?
Found here at this UK site.
"Multi region upgrades are performed on demand; We modify the product, at your request, from it's original region coding to bypass region code management. The upgrade will be compatible with most DVD titles currently sold (discs form Region 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. including discs which are classed as Region Code Enhanced (RCE) ). New release of software in the future may be incompatible; in which case a subsequent upgrade may be required. There will be an additional charge for this. This does not affect any other statutory rights you may have."
But close to $1,100 not much of a saving compared to the SA versions ($1,200 the cheapest here), nor beating the USA online websites going below $799. If a UK retailer can change the unit to multi-zone, surely some USA retailer can do the same? Eternal hope springs to the fore.
Will check here again in 14 hours time. Have to officiate a pro football match first, then some clear-headed sleep. Back soon and again, much appreciated so far for the calls!

Obviously, if you can buy the Zone 0 unit I'll be thrilled. If not, I prefer a reputable electronics shop in the USA (SA workmanship regarding this I don't trust, akin to car hack shops here!) to change it to a Zone 0, if that's possible.Originally posted by Moraine Sedai:First...you're welcome.
Second...I don't think it will be possible to purchase one for Zone 0 in the US, though I, too, am still looking.
I've checked on Sony's website and called them, but they say any they make in the US *will* definitely be zoned for the US only.
I am searching, at the moment, for an electronic store that may be able to change this restriction after purchase; but I don't know if you want that done here or if you want to try and find someone there who can make this change (if it *can* be made) once you receive it.
Edited to add: I've also checked with Circuit City and Best Buy and neither store even carries the unit. *sigh*
SONY SA let slip here it can be changed from a Zone 1 (USA) to any other zone, so it seems possible. More they won't say, only that they will not do it here for you.
Say a tourist in New York wants to buy the Sony DVD recorder there and carry it back to South Africa, surely the retailer in NY will make certain that the specific unit is able to play SA and/or other region DVD's outside the USA?
The RDR-HX900 is a relatively new unit, so I suppose only the big Sony retailers in the big cities will carry it first.
Many thanks for the effort so far
