1. Don't click on the link with your left mouse button as this will make your browser attempt to open the file. Not knowing what type of file it is your browser will probably assume it is plain text and try and display it as such. Use your right mouse button and select save target as or shift click the link/picture.
2. It's all well and good saying X and Y can happen in real life but does Combat Mission actually model enemy units being mis-identified as allied or was this a glitch? By the way I believe that training manuevres are completely different from actual combat situations particulary the type of scenarios that CM models i.e. short, violent and close quarters with no driving along for hours without enemy contact. Speaking to friends who have been in actual combat or dangerous situations (Northern Ireland) leads me to believe this.
3. I have to say Brits, as I'm one then the Germans because of all the great weaponry. Hardly ever US as I also find the .50 cal to powerfull but I sometimes enjoy playing Poles, French and Canadian.
4. I dont know. I'll send you a set-up guachi. Blonde, brunette. Small, medium or large? Hot, wet or frigid?
5. I don't remember Michael Caine or Donald Sutherland especially but I think I remember Edward Fox in it. Didn't they take the villagers hostage in the church though?
6.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: I maintain that a 'recce' command would be redundant in the course of proper tactical recon. I'm more and more getting the impression that you (and Sitting Duck) regard recon as peeking around the corner of buildings with scout cars. Move out, take a look around, move back. Recon is about creeping, and looking. The way to find the enemy is to move forward slowly in cover, and take plenty of time to stop and look around. If you need to cross open ground, do it swiftly and decisively, and make sure there is safe cover at your destination.

Surely you are contradicting yourself here when you say recon is about creeping and looking and others think it is about peeking round corners of buildings. Also when you say "when you have to cross open ground do it swiftly" just after saying it is about creeping. Personally if your going to creep everywhere to recce why bother with a recon vehicle as infantry can probably do it just as fast but much quieter. I usually only use recon vehicles in quick dashes to see if they can spot the enemy during this time. If you dash to cover then creep round/over an edge to see the enemy has probably seen your dash and is expecting you. Scratch one thinly armoured vehicle. Also in some situations you don't have either the cover or the time to move slowly and have to move your recon vehicles flat out in an attempt to dodge any incoming fire they may attract.
7. I imagine that in real life one of these HTs would stop behind a ridge etc. and someone would get out and peek over the ridge to direct the fire in many circumstances. Much like a tank commander would do in some situations. It is a pity you can't use any SP artil crew like this or at least link them to a HQ or even a FO if one is available.
8. I think I may have noticed this with other 20mm armed German vehicles too. For example I had an armoured car that didn't want to fire upon any of 2 infantry squads, a jeep or an empty truck last night even though they were all in plain view. Just as well I was mopping up.
9. Anyone remember UMS then UMS2, I quite enjoyed that on the Atari ST. I remember a couple of even older games from around 1980 which I played on the BBC and early Atari computers like the 400.
