  1. In case you don't know what that song sounds like... http://www.smdj.com/~tohru/bare_mountain.eng.html Many listening options to choose from.
  2. Good statistics on German panzer productions for the whole war here: http://www.skalman.nu/third-reich/prod-tanks.htm I'm sure you guys already know about TRF, though.
  3. I remember when I downloaded the demo. I played that Volkssturm mission over and over until I finally one it, by God! I ordered the game, soon after, realizing that I could be playing many more missions, so why mess with the demo?!
  4. One last question to audace. What is the terrain like near Artena? I know there are hills south of Artena, and the Socco River runs along it's north edge. If you know the name of those hills, that would be helpful. Is the terrain slightly hilly before Artena? Are there many trees or brush in and around Artena (I'm guessing no.)? If you don't know, that's fine too, just figure I'd pick your brain while I had your attention, hehe.
  5. Amazing stuff guys, thanks a lot! You don't know how much you've helped. Audace, I don't believe the HG Panzer ever had a HQ in Arricia. I haven't come across that town name in my research. However, there were other units, of course, in the area. I'd love to know just who this man Joachim was, and what unit he was from...there were 2 KC winners named Joachim who served with HG Panzer. Anyway, even if he wasn't with that unit, finding out who he really was would be interesting. I'd also love to know just who those tanks belonged to, as well...very intersting stuff!
  6. Thanks! I'll email you as soon as I can. From what I've found, these units were sent to Valmontone, and were probably the ones engaged by the HG Panzer Division. 3d Division, the 1st Special Service Force, and elements of the 1st Armored Division. Anyone have information on these units or any good books I could buy detaling their time in Italy? Thanks again.
  7. Hi, I'm going to go forward with my plan to make some missions for CM:BO, and CM:BB, involving the FallschirmPanzerKorps HG, and it's various battles during WW2. My first mission is going to recreate the attack that the HG Panzer Division was ordered to begin on the 25th of May. The division was to assemble in the area northwest of Valmontone. The offensive was to clear up the point of penetration east of Velletri, eventually leading to a possible drive through to Anzio. At 1930 on the 25th of May, the attack began. The division took possession of the Lariano-Arteno road, but became bogged down due to heavy enemy fire from artillery and other weapons. Kampfgruppe Heydebreck, traveling on road C (The Florence-Arezzo-Orvieto-Rome road), arrived near Monte Ponio, east of Frascati. That evening they received orders to drive ahead through Valmontone and capture and hold the high ground south of Artena. On the 26th of May, the armored reconnaisnace battlaion encountered American tanks at the southern edge of Artena. The enemy advance was stopped, however the division could not take the high ground near Artena. So, my question is this. What division or divisions, and specific units were in Artena on the 25th and 26th of May? What, if any, known personalities were there, and what were the commanders of the division? All I know right now, was that they were American tanks. Any help (web links, information, photographs) would be greatly appreciated. Also, any books on this area, from the perspective of the Allies would be great as well, as I'd like to read more from their perspective. Thanks. 8. The one great thing I love about CM:BO, is being able to play a country, and all of the different variants thereof. Say, you want to play America, you can play all infantry, mixed infantry and armor, or even paratroopers. And, if you want to play Germany, you can play Heer, Fallschirmjager, and Waffen SS, each with different effects on gameplay. My question is will Luftwaffe Field Divisions be modeled in CM:BB? They participated rather poorly in the Eastern Front campaign, however there were a couple of standouts. Also, will the same designation of branches of the armred forces for the different countries still be there in CM:BB? In other words for Russia: Guards, Regular Army, Marines, etc., and for Germany: Heer, Waffen SS, Fallschirmjager, etc.? I really want to put a hurting on Ivan with a company or two of highly trained Fallschirmjager. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. 9. Gunther Rall is correct! I'll give it to you even though you picked 3 at a time.
  10. No one has answered correctly so far. I will check in periodically all day, until a winner is found! Prinz Eugen, I think I know who you are talking about. His name was Hister, or something like that, right? [ August 12, 2002, 02:26 PM: Message edited by: Dryfear ]
  11. All that I got was this from the FAQ thread: Has anything changed on this, since we are getting close to release...close to being only a month away! I love CM, but part of me wants some campaign style gameplay, where you pick a country, then a designation(for Germany: Heer, WaffenSS, Fallschirmjager, and similar selection for the other countries), and fight with the same units over time, and watch them gain experience over time. I know that this isn't what CM is about. It's really just something that I loved from the CC series...fighting with the same units. So, it's not a big deal to me, but I was just curious if anyone was aware if anything else had been said on this matter. Thanks in advance for any information you may have.
  12. Here's a couple for you guys. Easy. Medium. Couldn't think of a hard one to do...maybe later. [ August 12, 2002, 02:12 PM: Message edited by: Dryfear ]
  13. Ok, first off...forget nukes...wipe them from your mind...they don't exist. Now...what would be interesting, would be to say, take the Third Reich, say that it won WW2, and progress their military machine to the year 2000. Now let em take on the USA we all know and love right now in the year 2000. I know who would win...do you? ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today! Pitfiend06@aol.com
  14. Well, I would do a small engagement within the large battle for the Anzio beachead, sorry for not being clear on that. I will have to do some research for specifics! Thanks for the response, and when I get the game, I will check out plenty of scenarios before I try my hand at em, hehe. ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today! 15. I think it's been known for a long time that Hitler WAS into the occult and astrology. He had his own personal astrologist, didn't he?? The thing with Hitler was that you told him what he wanted to hear...you didn't tell him the truth. ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today! 16. January 22, 1944, 2 A.M. American VI corps lands near Anzio and Nettuno. Germans quickly lay a ring around the beachead and await the expected breakout. I wish to simulate the Fallschirm-Panzer-Division-Hermann Göring's battles in this area against the American troops. Sound interesting? Also...are there terrain sets that I could use for Italy...or a beach tile set, maybe...I know, I know...wait for the game...but I can't! hehe Anyway, thanks in advance for any reply. ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today! 17. I played Chance Encounter again as the Axis for the 3rd time, yesterday, and came up with a different tactic for dealing with the American scum! hehe I placed on my left flank a counterattacking force of all 3 Stugs, and nearly all of my SMG and HSMG squads, split into roughly two groups, a MG42 squad, and 2 Panzerschrek squads. In the middle I sent 3 MG42 squads, the 81mm FO, and an officer to take up residence in the church. On my right flank I sent all the remaining troops into the woods to wait and see if my quick counterattack into the woods on the americans right flank would work. With some of the men riding on Stugs, the men got to the edge of the woods quickly without being seen. By this time my FO was in the church, and had already called down mortar fire to confuse and panic the enemy. I only knew where a couple of tanks were, but I guessed that nearly all of his troops were bunched together in a slow advance. As mortar fire rained down, and all of my left flank entered the woods, the 3 Stugs stopped in the middle between the large wooded are, to set up a kill zone as infantry and tanks crossed towards the church and middle buildings of the map. At this time I sent some of my men on my right flank forward in a false attack to take buildings on the americans left flank near the wheat field. This drew the tanks attention from the woods, which is what I wanted. Reinforcements arrived not too long after this, and I sent them into the woods to wait and see what happened to my attacking force. Gunfire erupted in the forest as my SMG and HSMG squads encountered heavy american resistance in the woods. Losses were extremely heavy, but by this time, mortar fire was punishing the Americans, and their men were starting to panic. My Stugs also knocked out 2 Shermans which became visible in the kill zone. They also mowed down some infantry with their MG fire. At this point the Americans were coming under fire from the woods, murderous MG42 fire from the church, my last mortars were falling, and my tanks were punishing their troops in the woods. I had 1 SMG squad and 1 officer left, along with 1 Panzerschrek team, and a MG42 squad. The Shermans, after recovering and figuring out my plan tried to come right at me, destroying 2 of my Stugs. But, by this time I had destroyed 4 Shermans. Reversing my Stug, I played scared...causing the Shermans to try to reverse and come around the woods into the open. I moved forward again, as my SMG squad penetrated further into the woods, killing even more Americans. My STUG caught a Sherman with its back turned and knocked it out. The last sherman tried to fire, scored a hit, but luckily my STUG survived...turned...acquired target, and BOOM, got a hull penetration shot! WOO HOO! At this point I knew I had one. I launched a major counterattack from the woods, the buildings near the wheat field, and the few men I had in the buildings in front of the church. Along with the STUG it was a mop up job. The Americans surrendered on round 20 or so, and I just smiled. I killed nearly all of the American troops and suffered very few casualties...40 I think...mainly all of my SMG troops who sacrificed their life for the Fatherland, hehe. Just wondering if anyone else has found success using this tactic. I found defense to be futile...and I got nowhere. I know I'm not the only one...tell a newbie how you did. Oh yeah Im waiting on my shipment as we speak...this game is great! Go Volkssturm GO! haha ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today! Pitfiend06@aol.com

  19. Downloaded the demo, first game I got annhilated at Chance Encounter. My Volksturm didnt stand a chance. But, at Valley of Trouble I won the day, holding off the American forces, and succesfully counterattacking and driving deep into their starting positions! This game is great, and a new way to look at wargames. I bet plenty of companies copy this game, but that's ok...we know who started it all. Oh yeah..second time on Chance Encounter I got a DRAW! Couldnt believe that one! Oh yeah...ordered the game promptly after i played the 2 scenarios...can't wait for it to get here! ------------------ Hermann-Göring-Panzer-Division Generalmajor Dryfear (CO) Volunteer for the Fatherland today!
