  1. Maastrictian,

Just played "Epsom-Counterattack". What a fun scenario! I played as the Allied force and had some serious pucker factor when confronted by German forces from multiple angles at one time (God, I love when that happens!). This is a great scenario for those slower to medium CPUs. Just the right size map and number of forces.

Oh, and for those of you who are thinking, "he's just saying that because Maastrician had kind words for Victory in the Vinyards", you're wrong! tongue.gif This is truly a good scenario, one that I will play again (with diff. settings of course). biggrin.gif

    Keep up the good work!

  2. There was an earlier message thread on this problem. It may have been in the "Tech support" area, I can't remember. The problem had to due with an unwanted <space> character that somehow got added to the file extension when it was unzipped. I remember this because it used my scenario as an example. Do a search on "Vineyard" to find it. I think it was about 5 weeks back.

Are you running CMBO 1.05? I have seen some scenarios that will only run with that version.

  4. Anyone interested in testing a scenario with an interesting map? The scenario goes like this...

The Ruher has been surrounded, and also a little know hill along the Mosel River. Near Alf-Bullay high atop a hill sits Marienberg Castle. It is not the Castle that is remarkable, but rather the hill upon which it sits. At this point of the river, the Mosel forms a horseshoe. Inside the horseshoe is a hill, which commands a view north, and south along the Mosel River. Nothing can pass this way on or along the river that can not be seen from atop this hill. The gallant Germans that hold this hill have repelled numerous attacks with their bunkers and other defenses anchored in the hill like nails in a horseshoe. So far luck has been with the Germans, but the skies are clearing and the luck is running out of THIS horseshoe....

You can't rotate a map but you can do what I did on one of mine: use the landmark feature to label each edge of the map North, South, East, West. It's only a visual thing for the player and has no effect on the game setup.

also you cannot copy a map from an operation to a battle or the other way around.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  6. Yes, patience is a key element in most battles. Some battles I have gone a third of the way through without exposing my positions to the enemy, all in preperation for contact.

As far as this scenario, I moved two Stugs behind the church, one covering the field to the right-front and the other covering to the left front. The third Stug was placed on the ridge to the right at the edge of the woods. This one kept the Americans pinned down on the left somewhat (slow their advance onthe other Stugs). Now "hunt" them in these positions, but only in very, very short strokes! Hope this helps.

Tiles are apparently quite complex to get in the game from a coding point. BTS has officially stated there will be no new tiles for CMBO, IIRC. Just have to use your imagination.

That's kind of a bummer! frown.gif I was hoping to see a vineyard or grapevine tile. I have noticed blank tiles in the scenario builder. I thought maybe they were place holders for new tiles, guess not.

This from an e-mail to Ales:

The file has a space at the end of its name.

Combat Mission will recognise a scenario file if either (1) it has the Mac OS creator info, or (2) it has a .cmb extension. This scenario has the latter, but there's a space after, which messes things up - ie. "Victory in the Vineyards.cmb " rather than "Victory in the Vineyards.cmb". Remove the space and it should work.

    David,

I constructed "Victory in the Vineyards". Is this space at the end of the filename just a MAC thing? I looked at it in Win98 and can see no space at the end of the filename. It also runs OK for me in CMBO 1.05. I am in the process of modifying the scenario to enhance gameplay based on feed back from the CMBO community. If there are any changes I can make that will benefit the MAC community please let me know.

  9. I did play this scenario and enjoyed it very much. The only tweaks I would make would be the addition of some rifle platoons to cover the early AT units on the German side. I found it too easy to clear these units as I advanced my infantry. The inclusion of covering fire for these AT units may draw the American armor in for the kill.

The second tweak I would make would be to cut back the number of reinforcements on the American side. I found I had to many to handle near the end ,but then again I am a cautious fellow and the joy for me is completing the mission with the fewest casualties.

All in all "These Hills are Alive" was very enjoyable and I voted it a 4.0

BTW: please try my scenario "Victory in the Vineyards".

  10. Help! I have been working several weeks to put together a battle. I have been tweaking and testing all along, playing Allied then Axis to make sure the game play is well balanced. Now all of a sudden when I try to play Axis CMBO will only let me play "PBEM" or "Hot Seat", no "1 Player" ! The Allied side still can be played "1 Player". Is there a setting to allow this? Or is my battle file munged?

  11. Don't disable the Video hardware acceleration. Go to c:\Progarm Files\Directx\setup and double-click on DXDiag.exe. This will pull up the DirectX diagnostics. Choose the "sound" tab and move the slider to the left until it says "standard' setting. Close the DXDiags and fire up CMBO. If CMBO still won't load. Try moving the slider another notch to the left. Keep doing this until CMBO works or the slider is all the way to the left.

You check that your sound drivers are the latest. What sound device do you have?
