1. I know this is not the Scenario Forum and I will probably get flamed for this, however...

I would like to urge anyone who has downloaded and played scenarios from CMHQ Scenario Depot to please voice your opinion and vote on the scenarios. MadMatt has put in place a very nice rating mechanism, which virtually no one is using! So many of the scenarios are stuck at 3 stars, most by virtue of only one vote! However, if you look at the number of downloads per scenario most are in the hundreds. Is anyone playing these scenarios or are you using them just to fill the bad blocks on your HD? confused.gif From what I see on these forums this crowd is very opinionated, except when it comes to scenarios! More air time is given to hamsters! Maybe MadMatt should change the rating system from stars to hamsters. biggrin.gif

    Good or bad...please vote.

    Thanks,

Monday is fine by me, us antipodeans can drink on any nights, not like those weak Yanks and thier urine-water.

    PeterNZ

The mention of "Yanks andurine-water" brings to mind a little story of my fathers first night in England during WWII...

My dad was a B-17 pilot with the 332nd Bombardment Sqd. flying (35 missions) out of Bassingborn.

On his first night in England, he and a few other wing nuts (who were all restricted to base) went AWOL to the local pub for a few pints. After receiving their pints, one of the Yanks took a sip and was dismayed that it was not cold. He then shoved the pint towards the bartender and said (in a loud voice)"Give it back to the horse!"

Well!! You can guess what happened next!

Dad said, that iof there had not been a bunch of bycycles conveniently parked outside the pub, they would not have escaped the MP's and Bobbies who came to break up the altercation!

Without conscription, a country has to entice it's citizens to fight a war. "We never leave our dead behind" is one of those things. The Marines are very popular fighting units for middle class Americans to join.

Other countries may not be so comforting. Take the Russian T-72... Crew safety? Ha! If the tanks done, what good is the crew?

    Just different ways of thinking.

Oh yeah, "We never leave our dead behind" was a real enticement for me! And don't think the US doesn't conscript, congress can fire up "the draft" any time they choose!

  5. The buddy system is essential to your survival. It gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.

Actually you try not to let your buddies down, it's very bad for over all unit moral. When your nuts are in a vice eek.gif you would like to think your buddies are going to help get them out! In reality what usualy occurs is all other units in the area try to overwhelm the enemy with concentrated firepower long enough to extract said nuts from said vice. Sometimes a unit in dire straights will even call an arty mission right on top of themselves (if I'm a going I'm gonn' take some with me! mad.gif ).

    Poco loco,

When constructing a scenario, just set the number of major and minor flags in the "parameters' screen and then enter the map preview. Select the flags and "place" them like units. I hope that helps.

    Don't forget a grenade sump!

In the bottom of the fighting area you would dig another hole, about the diameter of an entrenching tool, on an angle, as deeply as you could. The theory was that an incoming grenade could be kicked down the hole and covered with the steel pot from your helmet.

This was considered "better" than unassing the hole under heavy fire to escape a grenade.

I don't think the sump would work too well with the odd shape of the German "potato masher" type of grenade. Also a definite ixnay on the steel pot over it! That would add more schrapnel!

  8. Keith,

Now that I'm done with putting together HoHH I can get back to playing "Bloody Causeway". So far it is kicking my butt (as Alied). Not many scenarios have done that to me (against AI). You did a good job placing that artty spotter. Damn where is that SOB? mad.gif?? Where are those B-17s when you need 'em?

  9. Pathfinder,

You just gotta' see it in your mind first! But I know what you mean. One of the technics I use that helps me is to lable the major grid lines along the perimeter with "landmark" text. Then I will acctualy lay down some of the major grids on the map by painting a lesser used terrain tile (I use wheat fields, they show up well) from one side to the other. Then I place more "landmark" text along some of the major grids (towards map center) so I can always tell where I am on the map. It takes a while to do this but a little time taken at the start realy saves time down the road on those realy big eek.gif maps.

  10. OK,

I'm done farting around with this scenario and have uploaded it to CMHQ Depot. Good, bad or ugly, there it is..."Hell on Horseshoe Hill".

P.S.:Thanks to Keith Schur for testing and MUCH valuable feedback (on why it sucked)! cool.gif

Thanks to Maastrictian and Wild Bill for words of encouragement! biggrin.gif

  11. MadMatt,

I upgraded to IE5.5 from IE5.1 a few days ago. Seems IE5.5 acts differently when accessing the Depot. Instead of displaying "Opening page..." on the status bar when waiting for the lower frame to load, IE5.5 shows "Done", but the Depot page does load after a few (well, maybe more than a few) seconds.

    Thanks,

    groundpounder

P.S.:Thanks for providing such a great site!
