  1. Try Downloading the all-in-installer and apply the activations to the game and modules.

Maybe dumb question but I did a search and can only find this thread that's applicable.  Where do I get this 'All-in-one-Installer'?  Customer Downloads?  I bought CMBN/Commonwealth Bundle eons ago (don't have MG) and have it updated to 3.11.  Just built a new desktop and I want to reinstall but I looked in the directory and there are like 10 patches in there.  It would be nice to get an all-in-one file and then just activate.  Is this possible in my situation?

  2. You can get it here: http://gregories.net/CMHelper/User Manual/CMHelper.html?GettingStarted.html

or the alternative helper app I wrote - link in my sig.

As for drop box you need a client application available from them to automatically copy files to your HD.

Thanks for the reply.  The d/l link to the program in the above link is dead.  No worries though, I got it from my opponent, reinstalled the newest version of Dropbox, and everything seems to be going smooth now.

  3. Getting back into CMBN with an opponent and I see H2HH has been replaced with CM Helper, but all I can find is dead links to it.  I have H2HH but I cannot seem to figure out how to link it to Dropbox anymore.  Is Dropbox online only now or something?  I seem to recall a tray icon for it and everything transferring smoothly without my input when I last used it.  Now I have to login to the site every time and manually transfer my turns to dropbox.

  4. The vast majority of graphics issues that I fix / work around are driver issues. Other drivers, other cards, just fine. One particular card, or family of cards, have issues when a particular set of drivers are installed.  When the drivers are rolled back, or eventually fixed, problem goes away. Game's fault, or drivers' fault? Hmm, gosh, let me see.

I think the problem that's been stated before is that CM still uses OpenGL while most other games don't?  I'm quoting, I don't really know, but it would explain the issues with this game in particular as, like you said, AMD is slow to fix the driver issues with OpenGL.  I have run Nvidia and AMD cards and only really run into issues with CM games, all the way back to the original CM in 2000.  Having said that, the issues have been very few and are mostly related to performance.

  5. Think you need to double check your sources, according to Nvidia the 680 has better performance.  Which you would expect, because it is better hardware.  Additionally, at the moment the 960 isn't available with more than 2GB of RAM, so you have less capacity to anti alias, run at higher than 1080p, or downsample to 1080p from a high res (on my 680 I used to downsample from 4k to 1080p with no degredation in performance) than you would on a 4GB 680.

If the V8 is quicker than the 4 cylinder, do the hardware specs also not mean much?  Don't think so.

I think your beef is with TechPowerUp then, which has run several game benchmarks on them (link below).  Granted they are 2GB cards, but as you see the bigger 3GB cards don't perform any better even though they are faster cards.  They also don't perform any better in 4K.  I don't have a preference either way, I go by performance per dollar, which would lead me to the R9 280x if I were buying today.  I don't buy used anything at new price, nor do I believe what Nvidia says on their site.  Show me real-world performance.  In any event, I have no interest in getting into one of these video card brawls as it's pointless.  You've obviously already made your mind up  ;)

  6. GTX 680 has 50% more cores than the 960.  I just sold my 4GB GTX 680 on eBay for 130 GBP - less than I would have liked, someone has got a bargain.

Hardware specs don't mean much.  I go by game benchmarks, which the 960 wins for the most part, and the card's a little more future-proof.  Again, $200 for a USED card that gets lower FPS is crazy IMO.  Now for $100, I would be tempted.

  7. so I retested with the 1.01 patch to make sure that it was not the problem , but no, I do not have the "green hue" problem and I have been using the 14.12 "Omega" drivers since mid-December.

Uninstalled and re-installed 14.12 drivers just to be sure.  Same thing.  Only happens with Shaders ON.  See screens.  First is without shaders, next is shaders on. Happens exactly the same in CMBN.  Has this already been posted in the tech support (CMBN and/or CMBS)?  Edit:  see that it is already in the CMBN tech-support forum.

  8. From an ongoing scenario...

Meet Captain Maksym Kyrychenko. The remnants of his tattered line company are attempting to strongpoint a series of forested hillocks outside of Stara Basan. Attrited by the devil's luck slugging of RUS attack helicopters and SPA, his men inhabit the fringe between despondency and the need for retribution. In these images, Kyrychenko's BTR-70K and his attached US liason team pull their vehicles off the road as the battalion net spits and hums: local air defense warning - attack imminent.

As the LADW comes down the line a UKR mech platoon relocates their mix of vehicles under the canopy in an effort to conceal themselves. In the bottom image, a UKR soldier reacts to the thump of rotor blades and the stacatto reply of small arms in the distance while frantically offloading ammunition from his squad's IFV. The platoon's sister company is being consumed. The Bear is coming.

800 meters north of the UKR FEBA a pair of BRM-3K's push hard into their next position and disgorge their recon teams.  The shock and violence of their supporting arms and the recon company's own resolute pace of manuever has fractured the UKR lines throughout their area of operations. The ineffectual response of UKR counter battery fire and the flickering resistance offered by opposing ground forces affords testimony to their sobering efficiency.

Elsewhere, the command element of the RUS assault recon company sends its dismounts forward for a last minute appraisal of the line of advance.  Jointly, the cramped interior of the pictured BMP-3M thrums with activity as the platoon CO and his attached air controller labor to synthesize the encrypted traffic from their forwardmost units and the live video stream from a skyward Zala UAV. A pair of inbound Mi-28N attack helicopters skirting the treetops will herald the company's entrance onto the battlefield.

What are your system specs for these shots?  Just curious as I'm upgrading my entire system in the near future.

  9. Id agree that the gtx 680 is still a steal if you can get it on ebay.  I have had one for a few years and only recently ran into games that I could not pump to max settings.  If however you have a bit more cash I would also recommend the gtx 970.  Just keep in mind both of these cards are fairly long.

For what it's worth, I have personally only ever had driver issues with ATI cards.  I used to buy the best card available, but now I choose the best nvidia card as a rule and recommend nvidia solutions to my friends.  Given that ATI tend to have issues with OpenGL and that CM is based upon OpenGL I would suggest staying away from ATI if you are going to  purchase a new card.

Wow. they still want a lot for a used GTX 680...almost as much as a new GTX 960, which doesn't make much sense to me.  Benchmarks for the GTX 960 are very good, equivalent to the GTX  770/R9 285. It's running an avg. of 56fps on Ultra/1920 in BF4.  That's plenty for my needs, and I would think is way beyond what CM needs.  Is this series not largely CPU-limited?

  10. I still play it on my laptop with a Radeon 6755G2 and have never had issues.  Red Thunder was quite smooth, shadows and shaders look good, but for some reason I'm seeing a performance hit with CMBS.  Could just be in the maps with lots of buildings, I'm still testing.  It is however time to upgrade the desktop from the Athlon 4000+ and 8800GT card, which is still surprisingly fast, but even my laptop kills it.  I've seen lots of CM threads dedicated to Nvidia fixes.  Has that all been ironed out now with those cards?

  11. It always amazing me in this game how everyone blindly defends it. We all know that lone tanks are vulnerable to infantry and it isn't a good idea. I think what someone needs to do (and it hasn't been done yet in this thread) is reference real-world WW2 effectiveness of grenades against armour...that's the question here.

Everyone just flames him for not supporting his tanks and forgets about the question as though Battlefront is too exalted to ever be questioned. I've also often wondered if simple grenades were really that effective against armour (not Gammon bombs, grenades).

And I have seen my own infantry throw what looks like 10 or 20 grenades at a single halftrack. In that case, I would expect it to be knocked out of course, but why the need for so many grenades in this case? Wouldn't one or two into the HT suffice?

  12. Before I was on Macs, I was on the then-amazing Amiga, whose capabilities and associated costs nearly broke down my friend, who's spent, I recall, $4K, options maxed , on his gray scale, tiny screen, mono audio Mac 512 SE. I owned an Amiga 1000, subsequently replaced by a vastly more capable family 2000.

Wow, that took me back. 12 years old playing 'Defender of the Crown' on my friend's dad's Amiga...

  13. Some of the maps get pretty darn big though, enough so that modern ATGMs can be out of range. And of course there's a selection of fun smaller and faster scenarios. There's actually a quite nice mix of the two.

This is the answer I was looking for. I assume it will require roughly the processing/graphic power of CMRT?

  14. iF THEY ONLY HAD IMPLEMENTED LEAN SIX SIGMA DONE BY A BACKBELT CM WOULD HAVE RULED!!! :D

I guess we all agree on CMx2 being the best games spotting wise. But why is criticism not allowed?

Because a few on here are 'fanboyz' (did I get that right?) and attack all dissension...and act like asses in the process. The game isn't perfect, thus the need to assist the game to continually improve. Only way to do that is to point out flaws, perceived or not. The LOS system in CMBN still has some issues that will hopefully someday be resolved...keep the examples of flaws coming please.

  15. well, isn't that exactly what happens? Platoon A on the right flank spots something, that info goes from the squad to the platoon leader and then to your company HQ, then back down to Platoon B on the left flank?

That kind of info wouldn't be useful unless they were all engaged with the same enemy at the same time. If you selected platoon B, they wouldn't 'see' what platoon A sees unless they had LOS.

I'm talking about the overall effect (on the game screen). Do I have more/better info overall because there's a company HQ in the mix? Can I see the full info for that AT gun because of the company HQ, or just a light contact?
