Farging Oddstralians.  What's WRONG with you for living where you live?

Oh it's not that bad... I haven't seen a crocodile up close for about three years, or so.

Mind you, I was out walking along a bush track yesterday and two kangaroos looked a bit miffed that I

interrupted their late afternoon grazing. One actually snorted at me as he hopped away and he was

a bit taller than me as well! Big bad claws on their hind feet!

Much more effective to release a swarm of ticks, especially if they are carriers of some debilitating disease that itches like crazy.

    Michael

It's a pity that you are on the West Side of your country, I will be in NYC, Washington DC and Las Vegas in July....

I would like to throw rocks at you as well. Best laid plans, and all that.

  3. I'm not sure how to respond other than maybe you can go play a game that you can afford, if money is your primary concern.

But - If the quality is what you are looking for in respect to depth of play, and yes, value for your money, then the whole family

of games or just one is well worth your investment. Hours of enjoyment if WW2 tactical games are your passion.

As for the modding, a search of the forum will probably lead to you finding out that there are solid reasons that the

game engine is not able to be changed by users.

This is like watching this one stray cat in my neighborhood.  The things is about as mangy, beat up and decrepit as... oh jeez.. maybe Boo.  Anyway I keep waiting to find this thing dead in my yard some morning, flys all buzzing around it and the flea infested carcass stinking up my lawn.  I'll probably do with it what someone should have done with this thread long ago- toss it in the frickin neighbors yard who insists on feeding it.  It would actually spruce up House Rune.

    Not "maybe Boo".

That describes both this thread and Boo.

Boo, I'm back, send a turn - your punishment must continue.

Italian grenades (the 'red devils') were reported to be pretty poor, if I remember my years-ago research correctly. They had a light metal body that pretty much evaporated instead of sending out shrapnel and, if I recall correctly, the explosive filler wasn't that much.

In the Australian Official History of the Second World War, volume 1 - "To Benghazi" by Gavin Long; there are two references to the ineffectiveness of Italian explosive fillers, one concerning grenades and then Italian weapons in general.

"The Australians considered that nearly every sort of Italian weapon compared unfavourably to their own...    ... the red-painted, thin skinned grenade was far less lethal than the British equivalent."

There is a reference to a grenade exploding almost between a soldiers legs, wounding him only slightly.

    Regarding field guns:

"...were of all sizes, shapes and vintages; shell fragmentation seemed poor and many men blown off their feet got up again."

"Major Macfarlane was blown over twice by shells bursting four or five yards away but was not injured."

If this level of detail is included in the game then perhaps yes, Italian grenades are reasonably well represented with peripheral damage possible but not penetrating enough to cause destruction.

  6. So I am a troll...nice community you have here. Or is it just you that's given to childish name calling?

    Mods should ALWAYS be free

    That's the idea of mods.

You want to pay for them it should be YOUR choice, not have it foisted on you as a DLC.

Let's be honest, these games are over priced, $75 released in 2011 is a bit steep to say the least.

Rip off is what it is..plain and simple.

I am sure the mod maker IS happy with the financial arrangement, he's as grubby as the company hawking it.

If you don't mind paying for a mod that's your decision.

BTW..quoting logical fallacies does not make you clever, especially when they are out of context.

You are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else who posts here. Your opinion is that the content should be free, because it’s a mod. Another poster disagrees with you and you try and stop the ‘discussion’ by saying “…it’s a mod…end of?”

Sort of childish in a way to try and end discussion like that, no different to your ‘childish name calling’ comment?

I’m sure you have looked at the price and decided you won’t buy the base game and by extension, any follow up modules or packs. Complaining about the price and then name calling about the person doing most of the work by calling him “grubby” is in my view a slur on someone you have (probably) never met or know anything about.

    An apology would be appropriate.

  7. I blame you all for not providing more UPDATES!!

After Noba gamily killed one of my lead tanks on the only bridge in the scenario (bottling up my entire assault force), I nobly allowed him the satisfaction of an ignoble win (after all, he gamily killed one of my tanks on the only bridge in the scenario).

You did forget to mention that up until you tried to force an obviously* well defended bridge with mortars dropping on the choke point (your neck) and you had completely:

    - failed to take advantage of an open flank, bravely sending tanks one after the other to be destroyed by my Galant Infantry at another easily bypass able choke point....

(My tanks didn't have to put down their coffee at any stage and help out).

    - failed to take advantage of the ford on the other side of the map that "wasn't" mined at all.... *cough*.... honest.

Nope - hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle was your only answer. So after much mirth and general jolly-ness on my part, I accepted your SURRENDER.

    Release Update:
The good news is that the scenarios and campaign are now all essentially done! Yay! The not-so-good news is that there has been a technical hold up, and I’m travelling through Europe for the next couple of weeks*. Taken together, this means that my expected release date has now moved to the end of October.

    Jon

    * Well, the travel thing might not be good for you, but it’s great news for me - I’ve managed to convince Domestic Niner that a few days in Normandy is essential :D Anyone fancy meeting for a beer in London next week?

If you send the airfare, I'm in for sure.

  9. I am pleasantly surprised (and  unpleasantly unsurprised that I am pleasantly surprised) to find several old names still posting.  I was expecting that  Seanachai's liver would have exploded like a T-34 canister round by now.

Having been offline for so long, I am really confused.  Is Combat Mission "Touch" something that Noba and PanzerMike play late at night with Kenny G in the background?  And what the heck is CM: Black Sea?  Last I knew the Russians and the Allies were working together to crush the evil Nazi's.  I don't want to play a game that reminds me how f-ed up the world is today.  I want to play a game that allows me to romanticize how f-ed up the world was 70 years ago.

The closest that PanzerMike (spelt, not bolded) and I have been was mercifully a quite large separation thanks entirely to the English Channel. (Did I mention that I went to Tankfest?)

At were a big staip fer mae.

    Ah'd ne'er driven a feckin' bus before.

You know, there are some things in life for which I can be thankful.

I was in Glasgow recently courtesy of a free train trip via Virgin Trains 1st class.

I was concerned about being able to understand the locals so before I went

I ran some of your old posts through a translation program and had the computer

then speak them out loud in Scottish.

After a few days I found I could actually understand what was being said so

I went there full of confidence. Guess what, didn't work, I still couldn't understand

a word most of them said.

Thankfully I had my nephew there and as he comes from London, he understood

    them perfectly.

p.s. Did I mention I went to Tankfest?

  11. Today is the 10th Anniversary of the pivotal action of Operation Redwings in Afghanistan, that cost the lives of 19 of the finest men that the US Military has to offer.

Inter-Service rivalry, multiple comms problems, no unified command structure and poor planning led to the ambush that killed Mike Murphy, Danny Dietz, Matt Axelson and 16 additional special ops men who came to rescue them. Marcus Luttrel the "Lone Survivor" was taken in by Pashtun villagers and eventually rescued.

The insanity of war, and what it does to people's lives all over the world. Will it ever end?

Not whilst there is money to be made and to hell with the (human misery) cost. War has always been about control. Control of resources, people and power and until mankind figures out across the board that life can be easier if you cooperate, look for common opportunities or perhaps just ignore others then we will find it difficult to stop.
