  1. there is really no logical comparison of the .50 cal and the MG42 for ammo load reasons as the MG 42 used roughly a 30-06 round.(Don't know the exact cal 7mm or 8mm) I usually take almost 250 rounds of mixed 30-06 and 7.62 NATO (.308) to the range every Sunday for my Garand and M14. The .50 cal round is absolutely huge in comparison. I understand the tripod factor and other accesories weigh in, but if the LMG 42 has no tripod it should be able to run along with the .30 cal LMG Browning as if it were a 'schreck or 'zooka.
  2. Just saw some advertisements on The History Channel for a show next week at 9PM Eastern covering the German/Russian front. Wish that they would come out with new "flavors" of THC such as THC WWII, THC Korea Era, and so on. Maybe if we all sent em messages for a WWII only channel we would get our wish. Happy Gaming all!
  3. I heard from it in early July from the Steel Panthers World at War BBN. Its good to see Wild Bill and the Raiders working on scenarios for CM. Unfortunately I haven't been back to playing SPWAW since my copy arrived !
  4. Thanks WB - I knew we could count on you and the Raiders to start working out some scens and ops - I look forward to em all as always.
  5. Marine skins ??????? Ugghhh - i thought the supplied ones were ugly enough already !!!!!!!!!
  6. Pillar - I would recommend a .223 for your first rifle. Many manufacturers in the US (Bushmaster in Maine, Olympic Arms in Washington state, many many more - search them on the Web), though I am not familiar with the export restrictions to Canada. Try hitting the NRA website for links to manufacturers. You may also want to get into reloading after a while as you can make your own rounds to your own specs as you gain experience. I just picked up a Dillon 550 and have started reloading my 30-06 brass that I piled up for 2 yrs on the range. But make sure that you are committed to shooting before buying all the gear - not cheap to start off, but will pay off big time after a few years. It seems that 30-06 is getting a little scarce, though I unfortunately live in Massachussetts, and all the damn Democrats here are doing everything in their power to start a confiscation program going here. Have to agree with getting a .22 as your first rifle, take it out to your nearest range and get to know some of the people there. I have never met a fellow shooter that wouldn't take the time to kibbitz with someone new and even let you fire their rifle/pistol a bit after you have proven you can handle them safely. Which brings me to another point - take a firearms safety course/hunting safety course please. They will familiarize you with many types of firearms and can also put you in touch with reputable dealers. Be safe and good luck !
  7. Hi Uedel - There are many of us hoping for a more dynamic frontline. Many Ops players are frustrated with the current calulations of frontlines now. Hopefully BTS will find a way to help us out. Take care.
  8. and why is there no modelling of the MG 34?
  9. Hi Bill - I didn't think that anything could pull me away from SPWAW< but since CMBO arrived I am completely hooked. I would love more operations as well. It really heightens the immersion for me to carry over troops from one battle to the next. Call me crazy, but I do get attached to the little buggers. I am also among the group that finds the "Frontline" calculation very troubling. During the Carentan Op playing as Germans against the AI, I had secured the crossroads at Addevile for battles 3-5, yet after each battle I was pushed back more and more. I caught the AI sending a few squads up the left map edge after battle 5 and figured this must be how I was pushed back. Pretty gamey to me, I feel that if you are securly in control of an important piece of the map, you are unfairly penalized if your opponent sends a few men up the map edge. I was able to accomplish this myself in battle 6 of Carentan myself (Figured all's fair in love and war, and this ain't love) by sending 1 rather mauled squad and a sniper up my right map edge and returned to my possesion all the territory I had previously lost. But there wasn't a whole lot of satifaction after doing it. So I would suggest a dynamic frontline with each unit HQ emmitting a "sphere of influence" radius over the territory that they hold at the end of each battle. It should be influenced by such things as the casualties that Platoon took, fatigue, supply and other variables, and possibly increasing the sphere the higher up the HQ unit. Maybe this is one answer to the frontline prob. I don't have any suggestions for any particular Ops as yet, but knowing you and the Raiders as I do, anything that you all come up with will be fantastic. Take care.
  10. thx Kwazy - really enjoying the battle - I appreciate your response - take care all.
  11. ty Actor - I did a search but didnt see any topic. Take care
  12. Hi all - I was wondering if there is a workaround when the computer assigns reinforcement vehicles inside buildings? I am playing the All or Nothing battle as British forces and on my first wave of reinfs. came on 1 Humber SC was placed in a lt. bldng. tile. I have tried every movement command twice to get it to exit, to no avail. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. (Thank god it wasn't a Cromwell)
  13. Hi all, I was wondering if there is a solution to having a reinf. vehicle being stuck in a house. I am playing the All or Nothing battle as British forces and after the first reinforcement wave, the computer placed the Humper SC into a light building. I have tried every movement command possible but it will not exit the house. Is there a hotkey or some command to get it out of the house or is it lost for the duration? Thanks for any help you can offer.
  14. Hi all - can any1 enlighten me to how the frontlines in operations are created. Just finished playing Carentan Op and during battles 5 to 7 I had help the Addeville/Tamerville areas with 2 platoons of Ger. Paras. with a Stug posted on road between them. After each turn I would be tossed out of the areas and had to re-take the ground again. It seems to me that the frontline should be more dynamic (to compensate for the AI running a unit or two up the map edge like I caught it doing) to make an entire frontlineshift as it does now. Any insight to this prob is appreciated.
