    My current short list:

    Front end:

    (...)

    • For the long term, add a Follow command that would cause units chosen as part of the group to line up behind and duplicate all of the selected lead unit's movement orders, including waypoint pauses (not a must have, but could be a big time-saver in some situations).

Make it  top priority and include in next patch...

  2. Because the lack of it starts showing its pain, I have to ask again, will there be any  development of a follow-the-leader kind of command ?

So many big maps and so many units involve a lot of repetitive plotting of way points now.

I have only limited time on hand to play and rather would enjoy the action  instead of wasting time on something computers were made  to get rid off in the first place i.e.  repetitve action.

    Thanks.

First on a source - Hugh Cole's bulge Green Book covers this under the section titled "one threat subsides, another emerges", the first half of which covers the liquidation of Peiper's pocket.  On the weather, the 30th division narrative is clear that on the 22nd the day was very cold, falling snow and heavy overcast, so there was snow on the ground and it would still be present on the 23rd.

117th Infantry on the 22nd is described as trying to reduced a German force on the nose of a ridge that held them off with mortars, werfers and small arms, until a fourth company from Stavelot got behind them. They spent the rest of the 22nd mopping that up.

On the 23rd, they fought for La Gleize, where what was left of Peipers armor was concentrated.  Much of the day was spent reorganizing infantry in the wooded terrain.  Attempts with armor met mines, ATGs, and dug in tanks and generally failed. US artillery was however incessantly pounding the Germans in the town, which drove the men into cellars - plenty if wounded (up to 300) and US POWs (200) were also in the town by then.  The US did not get in, but the pressure was enough that Peiper sought and was given permission to evac his men that night.  They left 28 tanks and 70 halftracks behind, along with their wounded and the US prisoners.

French text  in below link certifying no snow on the ground  signed by  some civilians and the priest of  La Gleize. There is also the famous Life magazine picture of GI s walking by a smoldering KT that has been taken on 24th. Again no snow.  Most vehicles were out of gas by 23rd. , although some barrels of fuel were recovered from a supply attempt  over the river Ambleve - they were sent downstream floating. The KT 's  were KO'd,because  hydraulics  and optics were damaged  by several impacts.

  4. Personally the features I look forward most are the ui changes. Although I've grown used to the current interface, I still find it very tedious to give orders or check LOS. Anything that improves the game in this regard is a big win in my book.

For example the ability to see the path a unit will take under normal circumstances or the reason why LOS is blocked would make game me enjoyable for me. Now it's all down to experience. If I had feedback on what path will be followed for example, I would only need to adjust those paths I think are suboptimal instead of having to make sure every path is ok by placing too many way points. My two cents ☺

    Amen to that...

And to top it off, a follow-the-leader-command, please.

  5. Given the new map sizes available, may I suggest that BFC seriously consider giving a "follow the leader command".

Plotting movements for bn size battle or operations takes you easily 30 minutes per turn, unless you are on the defensive side.

Re-watching the action for each unit may take you another half an hour, but that I may consider the entertainment side of the game. Repetitive plotting however, becomes just tedious.

  6. Does anyone play on a laptop? I hear it not really feasible. I'd looking at some quad core laptops with a dedicated video card-probably like to find one with 2 gig of dedicated video memory. I don't want to spend a fortune and would prefer something that isn't a heavy as a brick.

Not sure if what I'm looking for exists.

Good that you mention. I went recently checking in shop for a desktop and the seller was like: "Why would you need that for?"

  7. Sorry, but in my opinion CMBN is the edition of missed opportunities. Granted that CMX1 was limited because of an engine developed in the nineties, it did pretty good job, compared to it's capacities. CMX2 pretended to be much more advanced, graphic- and simulation wise, but gameplay wise it was for me in many aspects a step back or status quo at least. Clearly developers have tried to appease the real time playing masses, but this hybrid version has many short comings when it comes to turn play. Not even talking about the strain it puts on your hardware.

You are condemned to play company sized battles in back garden sized fields. Anything bigger becomes laborious, tedious and risky. I admit that CMBN is the only game, I will fire up from time to time, but really?...I cannot bother anymore to waste time on setting up a couple of platoons to find out after 10 minutes the system hangs. Frankly, contrary to all comments, I see no improvement over the patches, I expected better and feel disappointed. I hope they will get it together on the next engine though, because of course - despite all the short comings - the subject and formula has much potential.

  8. Hi Michael,

Yes, I think this is what was proposed in earlier threads:

    1. You designate a leader of selected group .

    2. You plot way points of this leader.

    3. All other elements of group will take shortest way to departure point of leader.

    4. All other elements of group will follow then path of the leader either in convoy formation, in diamond formation or lined abreast.

The movement order to be completed by a deployment order; column, diamond or line.

I my opinion it should be almost similar programming as having troops embarking on a vehicle and dismount at destination.

  9. Iterations in order of desire:

    1) The one that has flamethrowers

1a) The one with a more sensible LOS system so that we see what gunners can see (and shoot at) rather than the 3rd ammo bearer

    2) The one that allows inf to ride on tanks

    3) The one where AAA can shoot at and affect aircraft

    4) The one with ammo dumps (where we can also get the rare ammo for Stg44's)

4a) The one where units can acquire ammo from adjacent units (instead of having to mount /dismount etc.)

    5) The one that has campaigns in which units can change experience levels in subsequent battles. I would love to be able to do field promotions and award medals as well during campaigns. :)

    6) The one with a convoy-type command for roads

In terms of eras, Fronts or topics, they all seem pretty good and getting better. :)

I agree, especially nbr 6. add 4c; fuel dumps and all this by time the bulge game comes out on Dec 16, 2013.

  10. Would it be possible to also model other areas of the western front to Sept 44, or will everything in the editor have distinct Dutch feel? Also any chance of some Industrial/Factory like modular buildings? We are approaching the Rhine after all. :D

I was wondering as well. (Actually, imho the windmill is a-typical for the MG area)

Will it cover or allow to develop scenarios about the Battle of the Scheldt, the fighting in the Alsace, the first probes at the Siegfried-line, Aachen maybe?

Will we have Buffalo's, Wasps, DUKWs? Can we have railcars as doodad or building?

...any news on follow the leader command?

  11. Do you remember when CMBO was upgraded with features from CMBB and CMAK?

Yeah, me either. THINK POSITIVE! There's a brand new horizon but people can't see it 'cause they are focused one the one from 10 years ago.

    Mord.

Your question should have read : Do you remember when CMBB and CMAK were updated with features of CMBO?

Be assured, I can see the new horizon, but right now it takes damn lot of plotting way points to get there.

  12. Are we supposed to be excited about new features in the next module, that were already available in CM1, but failed to make it in the first editions of CM2 generation?

Sounds like 2 steps forward, 1 step back each time a new engine is developed.

In my humble opinion the game would be revolutionised by the implementation of a "follow the leader command". The current repetitive plotting of way-points for each and every individual unit really puts me off. At the point that for as far I play the game, I design myself a scenario where I play the defensive positions and program the AI to attack. At least I don't have to do all that work of plotting.

What I really do not understand is that the developers design - I admit - impressive graphics of all the hardware and scenery, but on the other hand promote real time play as the way to go. Who has the time to admire all these details when playing real time ? Unless you have the feature of recording and playing back I see no sense in designing all these fancy details. Actually all these nice representations hinder smooth real time play. You are better off with 2 dimensional top view, NATO unit symbols and enter a click fest.

A third development I would appreciate, but which I would rather consider like a cherry on the cake is that the game can be played in multiple screen mode. Especially in real time play it would be nice to have a screen with top view mode and and one other that gives you the point of view down and dirty at the hot spot of the moment.

  13. Hi,

I am trying out my first map conversion. In the help file it says at certain point: "Now create a CSV file called 151-151.csv or what ever xy your mapping. (I save these files into the folder called campaign, you can save them anywhere though)"

I am not sure how to create a CSV file as I don't know what the CSV extension stands for. Do I just open a blank wordpad document and save it as a xxx.CSV file? or should I open specific application?

    Thanks,

  14. This is amazing and just in time, as I was pondering to go and buy some 2nd hand overhead projector. Was reading through the help file and it looks a bit daunting at first instance, but I will try it out tonite. Anyway, a great job and one of the best contributions so far.

We just need now a talented script writer that can write a proggie that repeats waypoints for several units from same starting point in game and I will be set to start actually playing this game.
