  1. 42 years old, married, 3 kids. Ph.D. chemist, avid lifelong wargamer. CM is by far the best wargame, computer or board, I have ever seen. I have played the demo more hours than most full games I pay for. ------------------ Freedom is not a right. It is a privilege bought and paid for with the blood of patriots. Robert A. Heinlein in "Starship Troopers"
  2. Don't even think about wasting your money on a PIII 600 in a machine with only 32 MBs of RAM. Get 128 MB of RAM at least. RAM is more important than processor speed for most games. But you need both, RAM, processor speed and a good graphics card.... get at least a 32 MB graphics card (such as a TNT2 ultra). Rob
  3. Steve, OK. Thanks for the fast response. Rob
  4. Playing VoT as the Axis, I notice that the command range of the HQ to the mortars is very short. Am I to assume that the mortar teams and HQ don't have a radio, and therefore the command range is short? I would think these units should have radio and a greater range. Could someone explain this to me? Is there a way to tell whether a unit or team is equipped with a radio? Thanks, RobC
  5. I'm sure I'm uninformed here, but it seems to me that it is just as easy to copy-protect a downloaded version as a CD... simply require a code to be typed in during the install process and only secure email the code to credit card on-line buyers. The same code would be required on installation of the CD version... where the code is included in the packaging. This is how Microsoft does it. RobC
  6. Playing as the Axis in VoT at equal strength I score a minor Axis victory. Playing as the Germans, with the Amis at +25% I'm in a nasty dogfight. I lose badly as the Axis with the Amis at +50%. I find it all comes down to luck as to when my 75 mm bunker gets KOed and how long my Panther survives. I'm also still learning how to use my mortars as the Axis. I must be the average player because I find CM scenarios remarkably well play balanced. RobC
  7. BTS: How about letting people that have purchased (preordered) CM download the full version and the manual as a PDF? Just charge the credit card and email the buyer a code to download it? I have a cable modem and can download quickly. Thanks, Rob C.
  8. SP: World at War is a conversion of the DOS version of SP to Windows plus some enhancements and new scenarios. It is a labor of love and the full version is free. The catch is that the game contains a bar that posts ads. Enjoy.
  9. The turning point in the war was the cracking of the German "Enigma" code and the development of radar anti-submarine tactics that led to the defeat of the U-boat fleet in mid '43. Without this, D-day would never have happened and the Germans might well have defeated Russia. RobC
  10. This topic has been thoroughly discussed previously here. Do a search on German mortars and read the posts. Even with a spotter, mortars cannot target moving units, they must target an area, and even then the area must be in LOS of the spotter/leader. RobC
  11. Infantry/combined arms may be king in the wooded/urban terrain of Western Europe, but the tank will dominate the battles in the desert (of North Africa) or the steppes of Russia. Will there be any North African scenarios in CM or CM2? RobC
