  1. Just a short anecdote: in a game vs the AI I had an 88 and a 75 bunker. The 75 was taken out in the first turn by a Stuart (the bunker never got a shot off), but the 88 survived for 16 turns, and took out 4 Fireflys, 2 Sextons, 2 Stuarts, 2 MMG Carriers and 11 Shermans. It had too many hits to count, and lost 2 crew.

However, I think the only reason it survived for so long was that most of the shots directed at it missed, as it was on a hill, and most sailed overhead, or impacted in front of it. Maybe I had it hull down?

Anyways, I really have nothing to say, just wanted to tell my story.

ps. Maybe Henri could start an "AAR Writing Workshop" for the storily challenged.

  2. We (as in the CM community) have got to get Henri someplace where he can post his AAR's and maybe some screenshots too. They are a most enjoyable read, and I have learned a great deal from them also. Having them on a website would allow easy access for the masses, and would probably ensure that Henri never gets any sleep. wink.gif

As was stated on war-historical, a couple of screenshots would be great for seeing the action, but none can be posted there, and you need webspace to post them here also.

Of course this is all easy for me to say, as I'm not the one doing the work (unless I learn HTML) but these AARs are just too good to let them fade away.

ps. I could convert and format the AAR's into Word or something. If I come up with an idea, I should do *something* to see it through.

  3. Thanks Bill. They say it's only work if you don't enjoy what you're doing (whoever They are).

One hint I can give with regards to the depot... when (if) you get to the main scenario listing screen, right click on the scenario name and select "open in new window". Then, after you download the scenario, it will take you right back to the list. This will save much time and frustration waiting for the page to refresh, and hopefully will keep you from screaming at (or worse) your monitor.

  6. If it wouldn't be too much trouble for all you scenario designers, could you e-mail me your new scenarios also when you post them to a website. Please indicate the version #, and where your masterpiece will be hosted.

This would help me immensely with the upkeep of the database, and would ensure that I don't miss including any in the updates.

    Thanks,

    Harv

  8. Thanks guys, it was a pile of work to set up, but the updates are a lot easier to do now that I have the basic format set.

Karch, yes I did get it, but promptly lost it frown.gif along with everything else people had sent me when I used the delete key one too many times, and I couldn't remember who had sent it. Maybe drop Wild Bill a line and see if they want to have it all available in one spot also. Sorry about that.

  9. I posted this in the scenario section with little response, so I'll try it here also...

Just wondering if you could post which version of the database you use...the Excel Workbook or the CSV version. I'm trying to determine if it is worth the effort to have both.

Also, please tell me what you might be using besides Excel to access the database...ie StarOffice, Access etc.

    Thanks,

    Harv

  10. So here I am at 3am, still not sleeping, and typing with one hand because using my right hand hurts too much. Details to follow...

For pretty much the entire month before Xmas, I sat at my computer and worked on the database, cruised the net and played CM. On Xmas eve I noticed a stiffening in my right shoulder. An hour later I noticed some pain in my right shoulder. Two hours after that I discovered a whole new world of PAIN in my right shoulder, along with a stiff and sore elbow and numb fingertips.

I apparently have been introduced to the wonderful world of repetetive strain injury, and would like to pass along a warning to everyone to GET UP!! Take a break, stretch do whatever, but DON'T stay in a crappy posture for hours on end if you enjoy sleeping, eating, or even opening a can of soda.

This sucker was able to sneak up on me due to a long spell of cold weather, and I encourage all of you to avoid it using any means possible.
