  1. I'm playing the new demo, Training Mission.

    I'm trying to mount the units to the vehicles. I select a unit, "quick" movement, and place the cursor on the vehicle icon, when it turns yellow I click and a yellow link appears between the unit and the vehicle. I do that for all units that I want to load up. During the action phase all the units move to the vehicles and take up positions instead of mounting.

    I searched that manual and the forums but I must be using the the wrong term for "mount". What page in the manual describes the method to mount, load up, hitch a ride, get on board or otherwise get your ass in the car?

  2. We finally got the stinking Tigers! The trick for me was positioning the guns as I wanted, dismount the men and hide them nearby, otherwise the tanks take the guns out at long range. The guns just not having enough punch at range.

    I partially blocked the road with the PZIV on the far side of the bridge, between the sandbags, with one of the guns beside it. those men hid behind the sandbags. The other gun was tucked up by the building with the halftrack parked to hide it from the back in case of the tanks flanked. Those men had both panzerfausts.

    The idea was to catch a tank in the back as he approached the bridge after he passed the gun at the building. If he turned to address the gun, man the bridge gun again attacking the rear or side as he turned. hopefully the terrain isolating the tanks long enough to deal with them separately.

    The first tank was destroyed as planned. Second flanked the building and was disabled by panzerfausts (Men hiding behind HT and building)It was later found abandoned...

    The third tank stayed just outside the first sandbags down the bank. I crept around with the last Pfaust round and hit him, from behind, causing him to drive up on the road where the, now maned, PZIV took him out with shots in the side.

    I did not get an infantry attack as people have reported.

  3. Arty is a dice roll with tanks as it is with infantry, just More of a dice roll with tanks. A direct hit will destroy a tank and a near hit will immobilize and sometimes disable a tank. When those Tigers come over the hill I get chicken real fast and will take all the help I can get smile.gif

  4. This has required the most replay of any TOW mission I can recall. Its been fun, however, now that I’m at the end and Have three tigers to deal with, having one Panther and a Panzerschrek Im having a hard time resolving this one.

    A few comments/complaints are in order:

    Why don’t the Sturmoviks I called in attack the tanks? They just fly by and once they see a halftrack on the other side of the map they attack it. Pretty crappy ground support!

    I cant believe that Russian Commandos cant judge grenade throwing distance any better than this and that they cant determine that if a vehicle is moving they might need to toss the grenade up the street a bit.

  5. It works, comes in handy but I wish there was a key for any weapon firing or sound on the map... I find that often I am zoomed in giving orders and I hear something and wonder where it came from. I guess its realistic though

  6. In the Controls, Camera menu. there is a mappable command titled "Signal Source". I though that this key would allow you to jump to the last "signal" from the game. Signal being weapon fire, report from a unit etc. However use of the command in the game does nothing, that I can see. What does "Signal Source" do?

    I found nothing in the manual which is pretty shabby in my book. A good description of all the controls is the bare minimum of a manual for any software

  7. We do a grand job putting on a big show but cant seem to pull it off.

    The bottom line is by the time I receive orders to take the farm I do not have the tank support to approach the tigers. I have one to three tanks and there is not much in the way of cover for the approach.

    My best guess is that I need to preserve my armor better during the first objectives, which Ive tried, primarily by setting up ambushes but I still get wittled away.

    Any sugestions

  8. Well, I'm grateful you pointed me in the right direction. This is my first ATI card and I was starting to regret the purchase. I'm not at a place to get away from AGP at the moment. A new video card is no big deal but new video card, mobo and processor is a different story So I'm just coaxing my Athalon based system along.

    I did not perform the advanced tweaks or the OC section.

  10. I recently installed the Combat Mission: Shock Force Demo with poor results, in that the video card signal to the monitor would die within a few minutes of starting game play. The game was still running, I could hear the game sounds come and go as I alt-tabbed in and out of the game. The reset button was the only solution. I had also been having problems with the full version of TOH. Both problems have been resolved. If you have a similar problem check this link from the TOH forums Peeps with AGP cards .

    I own one of the early copies of the first Combat Mission and played all versions PBEM and solo over the years. I don't get much time for gaming any more but its great to see the CM tradition continue! The new engine seems great from the demo. I'm placing my order.

  11. I have suffered a problem with TOW on my PC since it was released. I believed it was a game, driver, and video card problem because of the symptoms. (crashes, video hangs, video siganl dying...) Troubleshooting included the gambit of defragging, cleaning old drivers installing new drivers reinstalling the game, changing setting etc. I recently installed the Combat Mission: Shock Force Demo and similar results in that the video card signal to the monitor would die within a few minutes of starting game play. The game was still running, I could hear the game sounds come and go as I alt-tabbed in and out of the game. The reset button was the only solution. I found this thread and the link provided by Wolfseven and after following the ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide my problems in both games have been resolved. The guide is quite comprehensive and takes some time but the result was well worth the investment.

  12. Thanks for the suggestions guys, Ill check the power supply out this evening. When I last replaced it, I think I bought a quality one...

    if you open the computer, you will find a data-sheet on the power supply. How much Ampere can it deliver on the 12V and on the 5V chain and how high is it's nominal output in conjunction with the CPU and the graphics card you have?

  13. thanks Guys, thats not my problem... For me the game runs for a bit and then the my monitor shuts off, as in loosing video card output. I can hear the game continuing on speakers and I can alt tab to the desktop (sound stops) and back but never regain video signal.

    So I have a different ATI problem :( . It seems like a driver issue to me. Unfortunately I have a similar problem with Theater Of War and have updated drivers since TOW arrived, to no avail.

    If you are running Vista and using an ATI card (using the latest catalyst drivers), you have a problem such that the game crashes when you left click on the map (to select a unit or to do anything else).

    It makes the game unplayable for those of us with the Vista/ATI combination.
