  1. I'm sure you have shut down all the background programs with ctrl-alt-del then shut down everything but Explorer and Systray? Run scandisk and defrag the Hard Drive?

I hate to state the obvious but it sounds like you need a more powerful video card or a stronger cpu. Both would be best but I'd suggest looking for older 3d cards in the bargain areas or even used cards. It pays to call around to smaller pc/mac shops and find out what they have.

As far as donations are concerned I have an old Trident 8meg video card around here someplace...I think it's even 3d. But I think for a small investment you can do better.

  2. Panzerleader,

That big review on combatsim is what first drew my attention to CM smile.gif I hope they will do just as good a job on the full version. Good thinking on the other threads too, I put a blub on the Armor thread a while back.

    Joe,

I agree with you, the more we(the folks who play the gold demo and will be getting the game) spread the word and add reviews the more players and opponets for us and the more interest in future games from BTS :>

  3. I've been checking combatsim.com for any mention of the CM Gold Demo but nothing yet. combatsim.com is one of the first places I saw a fairly in depth preview of CM way back when so I thought they would be more on top of things. At any rate, I mentioned the Gold demo being out in the forum section on their site under Strategy and Wargames. I was hoping for some of the folks that hang out over there to comment or show interest or ask questions or something. A few others from this forum came by to lend support for CM too. Finally someone made a comment..."it would be better if the graphics were improved abit." frown.gif

So, if anyone gets the chance, head on over to combatsim.com and give your opinion of CM on the strategy and wargames forum. Maybe someone over there will notice.

  4. petar,

I am using a Voodoo Banshee and tried the 3DFX reference drivers and could not play the game at all. After trying several things I just re-installed my old Diamond drivers again. Your drivers should be on the CD that came with the card just put it in and follow the instructions to install the drivers.

As far as Talonsoft games and DX7 I heard that the newest DX7a works now but rich is right in any case there is a fix for that problem on the talonsoft website.

  5. I know you have probably already thought of this but what I do is have a squad be ahead of the others, sort of like a 'point man'. I move them all slowly making sure to keep the lead squad ahead slightly so if contact occurs there is at least a chance that the other two will go un-noticed. It's hit and miss but so, I am sure, was the real thing. It also takes time to set orders for each individual squad of course.

  6. My wife calls the years I was painting and playing 15mm ACW miniatures the "Insane Years" I set up what can only be called an assembly line paint shop in our spare bedroom and most of the basement with the 'battle field' oh they looked great.... smile.gif

eventually my paintshop was turned into a nursery and once again reality raised it's head.

Another thing to keep in mind is to move slow. I had some engineers moving along both sides of the road and they missed a mine field in the road that my hunting sherman didn't miss. So I move the engineers up to a spot and leave them there for a minute or two to make sure I spot the mines before moving anything or anyone else up there.

  8. Hey Matt,

gaffertape is right, it is the Campaign Series from Osprey Military books. I think they also offer an Order of Battle series and the men at arms series. I've gotten them from local hobby shops and on the net. If you're interested I'll find the url and post it. The Campaign series is around $12-16 (U.S.D)

  9. Hey Gustav,

If you get to the Salt Lake City area you could visit the Fort Douglas Military Museum. Fort Douglas is located next to the University of Utah up on the East side of the valley. The museum has an outdoor vehicle area and the inside area of the complex. It's not huge but they do have a a few WWII era tanks as well as Vietnam era stuff. They have a Sherman there and a Pak 75 anti-tank gun. They have been in the process of re-modeling the place but they will still let you in and they only ask for a donation of whatever you can give.

Inside you will find a mix of items and photos ranging from the building of the camp in the 1800's till present. It's small but if you are in the area and have a spare hour or so, it's worth it.

As far as aviation museums go we have a rather large one up north of Salt Lake at Hill Airforce base. It does cost something to get into that one but I can't recall the price. They have alot of stuff there and do airshows from time to time as well.

  10. My favorite view is one and two (eye level and one above that) I only go further out on some movements or to get an overall view. I prefer the feeling of being there even if I sacrafice some vision, I feel that adds to the FOW and confusion to be found on a real battle field. I'm glad BTS has chosen to offer us a wide variety of views so we are never stuck into one.

After seeing the latest screen shots on CMHQ of the building destruction, I wonder If that is the high quality smoke? If it is then that is what I'm seeing on mine. Buildings aren't a big deal to me as long as I can see who is in there and see out it works fine smile.gif

  11. I think the AI for both sides is awesome. You have to really think it through if you want to do well against it. And friendly troops react as they should and run when they need to etc...

Overall it's the complete immersiveness of CM that makes it what it is. If I can't feel what's going on in the game by what I see and hear then it's no fun. In CM I know when I'm getting hurt.

    Thanks BTS
