  1. Well, the tcp/ip play I can overlook cos' it's coming. As far as the graphics go, those guys deal with mostly flight sims. The fact that it got their highest award shows that they aren't bothered too much by the graphics. BTW...Joe, when you gonna send a new startup?hehehhe.... ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  2. They awarded it 'top pick' their highest award! www.combatsim.com ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  3. I'm starting my scenario building with three fictional encounters. The first takes place just before the Falaise pocket with a quickly thrown together German force trying to hold a village/crossroads so that a larger German force can counterattack through that area. The American force is likewise thrown together quickly to try and reach the village quickly and prevent the counterattack. The second scenario takes place during the bulge at a small American outpost suddenly attacked by a mix of German armor and infantry. The American will need to hold until help arrives. The third also takes place during the bulge. It centers around a small village near Clervaux at the start of the battle. The Germans will need to cross the Our River and make haste out of the river valley to drive back the American defenders and allow the bulk of the panzers to move through the area. The Germans seem to have an overwhelming force of panzers and SS to support the Volksgrenadiers but try moving a panther up the muddy, twisting forest lined roads...in the fog! ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. 4. The new BMPs need to be in the BMP folder in CM. Just cut/copy and paste them in the BMP folder and say 'yes' to overwrite the old BMPs. I can't remember for sure but if there is a new .exe file you need to paste that into the CM main directory as well. I hope this is the info you needed. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. 5. Maybe the AI feels that it has units too close to possible enemy posistions to be loaded up on trucks etc? I haven't tried my hand at a scenario like this yet so I couldn't say if the problem is universal. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. 6. I used to run a banshee in my pc and I couldn't get high quality smoke or transparent buildings in the demo. I guess the rain has some sort of trasparent quality? So the banshee probably can't display it properly. btw, everything looks good with a TNTII now...it was a good investment. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. 7. Combat Mission works on: AMD K6-2 450 DFI K6XV3+/66 Main Board 128 meg pc100 SD RAM Guillemot TNTII M64 Cougar Creative Sound Blaster Live! Microsoft ps-2 mouse Win 98se ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  8. I'll gladly test as well. I also have a few scenarios in the works that will need testing shortly. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  9. Barbarossa, I'm using a TNTII based card from Guillemot and I can see all the effects in CM with no problem. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  10. I can't remember the key combo to press but just click on Hot Keys in the game and look at the list. It should say Unit Scale... ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  11. I agree with both, smaller tiles and more tile selection. I wonder though if it is hard coded. Those details on smaller tiles would really make a difference at eyelevel ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  12. I like fear in the fog. That's a nice looking map! ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  13. I can adjust the volume on my speakers but the sound is still overdriven sounding, fuzzy, pops, etc. Maybe I need to adjust some of the software controls? I'll try that, might just be a matter of turning the master volume down. Thanks
  14. Pyramid hills...I guess they could be livable but I don't like them. Also I was using the editor and noticed that if I try to do a sunken road, if there are bocage or hedgerows on either side they form a jagged line of pyramids. I'm sure this can be done without them, I'm just trying to figure out how. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  15. Does it on my pc too. It gets so bad that the ambient arty sounds rattle my speakers.
  16. Hi Abrams, It would help to know what video card you are using. If it's a TNT based card you might have something in the video setup called fog table emulation. You need to turn that on. You can find that, usually by right clicking on your desktop+properties+settings+advanced+Direct 3D-and there is a checkbox for it. Sometimes the video card controls have there own tab so you don't have to go into advanced. Just look around in there till you find it. I'm not sure about other cards except to say if it's a banshee based card you probably can't get the fog. (biased opinion from an ex-banshee owner) Good Luck ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  17. I think you might have a setting for fog table emulation? Try turning that on if it's not already. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  18. Some of you may have already tried this but if you create a river coming down from a hill/mountain and place a ford at each elevation drop on the river it looks mighty nice. Small waterfall or white water effect. ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  19. If you have the zip file sitting someplace on your machine just click on it and specify the Combat Mission directory which is CMBO by default then open the BMPs to the bmp folder and the WAVs to the wav folder. If you have unzipped them to another folder just select all of the BMPs and copy paste into the CMBO\bmp folder and of course yes to overwrite original files and make backups or you can get them from the CD if you need the old ones back. *whew* ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  20. Scott, Some other people, me included, had this problem with the demo. I noticed it during an icq pbem game and after I used the esc key to minimize the graphics flickered and scrolling was very slow. There is an alternate way to minimize I think it's alt-tab? I haven't had this problem on the full version. Dan
  21. This is similar to the lockups I am(was) having with using the madmatt mod pack. I've installed the fix and so far no lockups. The problem with the power button not working on your machine is really odd. My guess is that the lockup is so bad that it's hampering the power saving or whatever soft shutdown thing? I've never seen that happen before. The idea of using the sound acceleration slider is a good one. If I start getting lockups again I'll try that one.
  22. It may be a bug but it's a FUNNY bug! ------------------ "It's a hardball world son. We've got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
  23. Matt, I'll give that a try but I had a lockup with the repeating sound in 'fear in the fog' and I don't think any of the sounds you mentioned are in that scenario, though I may be wrong. Thanks
  24. My guess is that it's one of the sounds in the modpack just because of the error text. I don't understand how it could be causing problems, I have a SB Live card, 128megs of ram and 450mghz processor. I reinstalled directX 7a and I'll see if that helps. If we could pinpoint the file we could remove it and keep the others
